Huh, who went and bumped up the polycount on WoW? :P
that definitely looks a lot better than some streamed gameplay i saw earlier. the main gripe i had with that was the environment looked like a few large textures.
also nuthin wrong with making an mmo that has hardcore stuff that there is an audience for. not everything needs to be for everyone.

Well it is straight up developed by ex-WoW devs so you're not wrong
I am just a fun of cartoont exaggerated art styles
It's strange to me, because some of the screenshots make it look like Wildstar's trying to go for the Rachet & Clank style, which I can totally get behind.
But then that screenshot looks hella WoW.
And I just don't think those two styles mix very well, I guess. I'd prefer if they went whole-hog with the sci-fi (or just find a much better sci-fantasy aesthetic than they have now).
The animal race in that MMO with the 10 year old girls in it that had to be censored in America looked pretty good if I remember from the quick look (I'm not about to google to try and figure out the name of the game)

Was it that korean action MMO game? Totally spacing on the name... had actual combat instead of MMO combat.

Is Tera the one you're thinking of?
Yup! I think it had a race that was basically little kids too...?
Wildstar was a game I was actually really interested in and then every time the devs open their mouths I care less.
Subscription fee? 40-man raids? Aren't interested in catering to the "casual" player?
It's like they think they're developing an MMO in the 90s
I did a google search for "wildstar"" and "casual" and I have no idea where your idea is coming from.
I can't even find the exact quotes I was looking for, but if you look for any of the interviews with Stephan Frost you might see generally what I'm talking about.
And even if they don't come out and say like, "fuck those casuals yo", when they say stuff like "There will be no dungeon finder tool, you need to have a coordinated and scheduled raid group and if you can't come up with that then too bad", and while that is paraphrased it is pretty close to what was actually said (it was actually "sucks to be you," IIRC), I feel like you can kind of extrapolate how they feel about those sorts of players. They crow the fact that they are catering to the hardcore MMO raiding crowd so often it may as well be their mantra.
I'm not even saying it's a bad thing, if that's the sort of game you want then cool, this is probably the only game in recent memory even attempting that sort of thing. But that just isn't my jam anymore, so I just grew less and less interested as it became apparent they were developing in a direction that laid opposite my interests.
Look, I did my time in Molten Core and Blacking Lair.
I'd sooner pound a nail through my dick then do that again.
Those dungeons were nothing more than a test to see if you get 40 people to follow incredibly basic instructions and not fall asleep for 5 hours straight, which is surprisingly hard, actually. But if the challenge of your game comes from the logistics of herding the lives of your players, and not the game itself, you've made a shit game.
My only problem with that is the 40 man thing. More players just means harder to get groups together and less interesting mechanics because they have to account for so many people. Molten Core mechanics wise would barely pass for a 5-man nowadays in terms of what's actually going on in the fights
+2

And TERA is actually a really fun MMO, it's a shame about some of the... poor design choices from an aesthetic standpoint.
I played the Wildstar Beta a month or so ago and it was okay? It looked very much like WoW but had some great animations and style. However, I found it boring. The combat lacked impact and it all felt very float-y. The UI was also quite terrible.
16 year old me who played WoW would have been super stoked I think, especially with the housing/path options/customizations, but 22 year old me who is burned out on the genre didn't find anything interesting really.
That said, there are two MMOs I need to try again soon. I want to play SWTOR again and finish the Imperial Agent storyline, and I want to try FFXIV again. I only played the latter for a month ish back in September before I got side-tracked, I'd like to give it another month and see.

Oh, well that really makes sense, because yeah it is really in the same vein.
I like cartoony, exaggerated stuff but I tend to like it when it is cleaner, WoW's visual style is too busy for my personal taste.

if you told me this was a WoW screenshot from the new XP, I'd believe it without hesitation
But I think that's a great look
Especially paired with a tone and sense of humor like this
I did a google search for "wildstar"" and "casual" and I have no idea where your idea is coming from.
That is actual bunnies not anthropomorphic bunnies
This video came to mind as I read this
I would totally play an MMO where every race was just a normal-looking animal.
and the mounts are unicycles.
Your skills include shedding, scratching things you shouldn't, and acting like a real dick all the time
Actual Wildstar race
Also they're in the evil faction
Because they're fucking crazy.
My paladin would be a turtle.
I'm definitely a fan of that!
Haha, that's raaad.

Now, see, that is the style of costume that I can dig.
Yup! I think it had a race that was basically little kids too...?
There's a house near mine that apparently raises bunnies or something because once I was on a walk and bam this big brown bunny hops up
I was like OH MY GOD HELLO MISTER BUNNY
they also don't have a gender select button

I once met a lady who was straight up walking a brown rabbit on a leash.
