The tank characters do wide sweeping attacks that pull in enemies.
The DPS juggle chain enemies that they separate off the main groups.
The healers go around solving puzzles to gather healing orbs to heal everyone.
Nah might as well just ditch the trifecta entirely, it is old and tired.
Everyone should just be different flavors of DPS and you should be able to clear any encounter with a team entirely composed of one class. Monster Hunter style.

Yeah I should be clear I'm just using those terms for convenience sake.
But there should be different styles and weapons and progression paths that give certain characters a choice in how they want to contribute.

i like tanking
Well then in Monster Hunter you would probably play a Lancer, who has a giant shield and lance, and who can block attacks to launch vicious counter attacks, instead dodging or running away like other weapons, but you are still doing damage.
I am not sure if tanking really makes sense for a character action game.

Yeah tanking is fun but some games just don't need the trinity of MMO classes per se.

Though to be fair when I think Character Action Game I don't exactly leap to Monster Hunter.
I tend to think of DmC or Bayonetta.
Agreed. It just jumped to mind as a game where, while everyone is still being DPS, essentially, you achieve this goal and contribute in different ways based on your weapon.

I've never even heard character action as a term until Two Best Friends.

Monster Hunter makes it work, somehow. Some weapons do better stun, some weapons do better status effects, some need more set up, etc. I am sure there is an optimal weapon, or something, but people use a variety anyway.

Also, to me, everyone just being the optimal dps, optimal healer, and optimal tank isn't any more interesting than everyone being the optimal DPS.

Just don't surface any numbers.
Bam problem solved mail me a check.
monster hunter progression is entirely gear based
for that to work in a large, open world mmo setting where your playing the same character for hundreds of hours, you'd either need an absolutely massive amount of content or make it not an mmo

But when I have the "trifecta," I can do tanking or healing when I get bored of doing DPS.
If everything is DPS, then I don't have much recourse if I get bored of doing DPS.

"The Barrens" makes me want to scream
AniMMOrphs
like i guess bayonetta 2 will have it
but i'm imagining like a grand scale mmo but with cag gameplay
that'd be perfect
Oh man you just made me mad nostalgic.
If I had the time in my life to play an MMO, Spiral Knights would be my choice.
This is also what I played
I was a medium armor class so I was usually running around in skin tight leather
Sometimes there was leopard print involved
Instead of stunning or interrupting enemies you can juggle chain them?
This is a great idea.
I played a Bright Wizard and Shadow Warrior and they both were a blast to play (pun intended for that first class).

Jeff is arguing that the DualShock 3, specifically the triggers, is way better then the 360 controller, particularly for racing games

The second screen stuff in Ground Zeroes is super neat, even on a tiny cellphone screen.
And that Virgil DLC sucked because Virgil felt like shit to play IMO.

I think you want Kinect Star Wars.

Army of Two was getting a lot of hype at the time
