Things to do/eat in San Jose

zerzhulzerzhul Registered User, Moderator mod
Will have a few weeknights free on a trip to San Jose...

I read a couple of older threads on the bay area, but figured it's been a bit so why not ask.

Looking for sushi, and maybe a nerd bar? I won't have a car, just public transit.

This is not either of things you asked for, and it's been a while since I've been in the area but LaVic's is open SUPER late, near the SJSU campus so easy access for public transpo, and that was where I had the best quesadilla I've ever had.

Go to Iguanas and get a Burritozilla (bring a friend or three to help out). I'm boring so I like Britannia Arms (nice little pub to chill and have a few Blue Moons). The Tech Museum has a pretty cool Star Wars exhibit going on but it ends the 23rd.

Edit: Light Rail and buses are awesome so you'll be fine cruisin' around downtown without a car.

I saw a werewolf drinkin' a pina colada at Trader Vic's.
    And his hair was perfect.

Seven Stars bar and grill is a star wars themed bar with awesome cocktails and good food. They have tvs that play fun movies. I generally don't even like bars and I think this place is great, as does everyone I've taken there.

I just took a friend from London here tonight, and he stuffed himself full. Cannot recommend the orange sauce enough. Put it on everything.

Also, whatever you get, make sure it comes with a corn tortilla, not a flour one.

    Bars?

I'm a huge fan of Singlebarrel. Weeknights are not so bad, Friday and Saturday nights tend to have a crazy line after about 8pm. They're closed on Mondays. It's not a "nerd bar", per se, but their dedication to fine cocktails is a huge hit with this particular nerd, at least.

I do love cocktails, and luckily I won't be there on a friday or saturday night ;)

Santana Row was pretty good times back when I lived down in Santa Cruz, but I haven't been out in SJ for a few years easy. I hear they have a Fogo de Chao down there now, so if you want to eat stupid amounts of meat, that's an option.
