The Last Federation is indeed super awesome! I'm still not sure how to fully describe it. I was hopping from 4X to 4X all day long yesterday and a not-4X that was made in 3 months wound up dominating my day. I guess you just can't beat playing as an evil space hydra.
I'm sure this was discussed closer to the time (end of last year), when I was still on hiatus from the forum, but I've only just seen it... and it does make one feel marginally uneasy...

Y'know, normally I get a chance to at least ask questions like "hey, what's this [new game title] thing I keep hearing about?", or at least check out the store page for same so I can compulsively add it to my wishlist. But I gather that was taking too long this time, so @Albino Bunny went ahead and gifted me The Last Federation.
Thanks a bunch! All the buzz around it has got me intrigued, to say the least
Kingdoms of Amalur looks really cool--I think have it on my PS Plus account, but I've let the subscription lapse and have zero plans to get a PS4/resub for PS3 stuff, so now we're in that really dark, grey territory of considering purchasing games I kinda sorta already own.

Well if it helps I'm currently running around yanking people to me like scorpion on steroids and then violating them in slow motion.
I think the neatest detail is that every different race has their own political system which changes how you have to play to get them on your side. Can't really add more detail than that because I've only just started to play it though.

To be fair, it's multiplayer only and the servers were taken down. I'd have much rather seen them release the server software to let players run their own, but I'm not as upset as I would be if I suddenly found FTL (or any other SP game) removed from my library.

Article said it had single player missions? Never played it though so can't say for sure.

As mentioned in the intro the game's main thrust was of multi-player online combat which required the servers but it also did contain 18 single-player missions, reports Forbes.
That's the part that makes me wonder. No mention of offline LAN play so I assume it didn't do that, but still.
EDIT: Further poking reveals that Order of War is still on Steam; the part that was removed entirely and pulled from people's libraries was Order of War: Challenge, an expansion to the main game. I think we can presume that the expansion was multi-only and the main game includes those 18 SP missions...?
Maybe it still had to authenticate or some such nonsense. Either way, now I'm more annoyed about it.
It had always-on DRM. Instead of patching that out, Square Enix just yanked the servers.
“Whilst we have loved seeing you enjoy playing Order of War on Steam, unfortunately it is no longer viable for us to continue to run the multiplayer servers due to the low volume of traffic and so the servers were switched off on September 1st, 2013. The multiplayer aspect of Order of War and Order of War: Challenge have subsequently ceased to function, and customers will notice that Order of War: Challenge has been removed from their Steam library. For those who have been playing our game, we thank you for your support and hope you had fun.”
Yeah that first article posted (hexus?) is over dramatic on the digital sales of games when it closes with some nonsense about maybe in 10 years all that will be left are drm free humble bundle games.
The issue with this specific instance is not Valve's handling, it's 100% entirely on SE's shoulders with shite always-on DRM and just outright removing servers instead of patching anything.
It's an issue with individual publishers DRM, not Steam somehow being a risk.
In case anyone hasn't got one of the thousands of Dead Island: Epidemic Beta Keys yet, here you can grab it.
Also, it comes with additional gift copies.
EDIT: Link Corrected.
Grabbing one of these appears to spawn six gift copies in your inventory. If anyone wants one, please let me know in a PM.
Apparently the event is over, but if anyone has extra gift copies they can't find a home for (always give to pa people first) i know a couple streamers on twitch I've been helping out with that would appreciate more games to play with viewers. If anyone can't find homes i'll take them.
CorriganX on Steam and just about everywhere else.

Thanks to @iolo who read some of the crap my little family has gone through in the past few weeks and was awesome enough to send my son a copy of Lego Marvel. It's school vacation week too so it'll be getting plenty of play time! Classy to the fullest.

Just finished Broken Age Act I. Another game finally off the ol' backlog! According to my backloggery, it's the first game I finished since Batman: Arkham Origins on March 22nd. I've really been slacking.
I know I say this a lot, but the Order of War fiasco could have been completely averted if game devs and publishers would just allow players to set up dedicated servers.

You know, like we used to do in the 90s.
Lime'd for truth. Like we used to do back in the '00s.
Wait. hold the phone. I just realized. That powerpuff girls game got released awhile ago, didn't it?
Jeeze. I need to buy that.
Hey @Pixelated Pixie is that Powerpuff Girls game any good? I'm assuming you have it because, well, it has some pink in it.
Pretty good so far! I didn't play a ton of it yet because it felt like it needed a controller instead of KBAM and at the time I was too lazy to get the controller and plug it in... :P But what I did play was cute and felt pretty solid.
So. I just played a bit to get a feel of it, and I was very surprised.
See, when someone tells me a game is a metroidvania, I need more detail, actually, because I feel there are TWO types. The castlevania type, which is more focused on the combat, finding new weapons and abilities to be used in battle, RPG elements, and maybe a few travel abilities too.
Then we have pure metroids. All abilities you find are used for both battle and traversal of the levels, very few RPG elements, a much heavier focus on exploration and secrets.
Most games that tout themselves as metroidvanias nowadays are of the first variety. Things like Valdis story and Guacamelee. Powerpuff girls: Defenders of townsville is the latter. And I couldn't be happier.

I wouldn't say those are types so much as a spectrum, but yeah. I wish there was a new side-scrolling Metroid to look forward to, we haven't had anything since the GBA days!

Spectrum, I suppose is a better word for it, yeah.
Can't stop playing NEStalgia, send help. I can't stop grinding and enjoying the grind, it may have something to to with something from my past from when I first started playing video games. I think there is a word for it but I can't remember it at the moment so I'll just equip these rose tinted glasses I bought from the marketplace (auction house).
When I'm done collecting all of the monsters I'll probably be able to give this game a decent review, but it's going to take a long time to catch em all.
If anyone wants to play with me I'm in the server Midgard and it's full but I have the super secret awesome password to get you in!

This is a very, very good deal for an amazing game. I've got 59 friends with this game wishlisted - jump on it at this price!
Also, attention gifters, GMG now lets you buy multiple copies of a game at one time. Sweet!

Quit it. I'm almost out of money.
Was that the one that's just junk code without the servers running?

thats crazy, you could have still grabbed a patch or something right?
EDIT: Also this makes me a bit ansy with all the GFWL games.......if you take my Bulletstorm there will be blood....
Thanks a bunch! All the buzz around it has got me intrigued, to say the least
Also since it's adding a key instead of buying it off Steam, remember to remove it from your wishlist afterward, like I just did.

I've got it but I really don't wanna play with pubbies

So that's a thing.
I shouldn't use Steam when I first wake up. I don't think straight.
