It seems like they added way more informational icons for the Share button now too, double click Share and a little "Recording" icon pops up, when 15 minutes are up a new notification of "Recording Saved" pops up, etc. Way more information than before where you had no idea what was being recorded, etc.
I should probably just do this from now on: I ran a whole dungeon in FFXIV in the hopes of making a music video with the footage, and the fucking system didn't save a single second.
I am working on an Infamous video though. Pretty darn pleased how it's coming along.
So good. I woke up to Shahid Kamal Ahmad's post-announcement glee on Twitter (PlayStation 'Strategic Content' dude, i.e grabber of mad indie shit) and was blown away jumping onto their blog.
Also, there's now voice commands for recording gameplay, and apparently they don't drag you out into the Share menu while playing? I haven't had time to try, but it's exactly what I wanted if true.
Chasm and Drifter look pretty cool. I want to get Nidhogg, but I don't get to couch-multi very much anymore.
I kinda feel guilty that I don't like/am excited for more indie games.
I don't couch-multi much anymore, but I binge when I do, and a lot of these games are great binges. I mean, the idea of getting people in a room for Nidhogg, Sportsfriends (which has a release date of May 6, did anyone mention that!?), Towerfall, Octodad; I'm done, that's all I need.

Nobody is going to be buying the XBox One in China until it's hacked.
The freaking PSP is still the most popular system there by a landslide margin.
Are we including PC? If we are then no, it's not even competition. It's PC, Smartphones, Gobi desert, PSP. I've read plenty of opinions from Chinese and/or people that live in China and every single one of them echoed the thoughts of American McGee: https://www.facebook.com/americanmcgee/posts/10152134506387075
Either way, I think it's too soon to call it at (almost) 6 months in. Sony was able to turn things around for the PS3, and it was probably worse off 6 months into its life than the XBO is now.
I don't know about that. Japan hated the 360 so that gave Sony a potential group of 3rd party developers to give them exclusives that MS just didn't have (short of actually bankrolling them like they did with Lost Odyssey).
I think you're over-estimating Japan's importance in the worldwide console "war". Losing Japan didn't stop the 360 from being #1 worldwide. And it wasn't Japanese exclusives that turned things around for the PS3 in western markets.
Well according to Arthur Gies' logic, it was the reason why the 360 ended up coming #3 worldwide. See, if you just ignore the 10 million PS3s Sony sold in Japan, the 360 actually sold more units than it. Flawless logic.

Yup... The PS3 is the 2nd best selling console from last season. It also holds a lead in Europe...
The massive lead the 360 still holds in North America is the reason for it being so close all
Destiny is the next thing from Bungie, who split with Microsoft and have signed on with (sigh) Activision. A sci-fi sort-of-MMO RPG. Imagine Borderlands crossed with Halo crossed with World of Warcraft, with a class system and loot.
And the guns you pick up have their own skill trees.
A bunch of sites wrote up articles lately after a preview event, and All Games Beta did a great job of tracking down the major ones and listing them for easy perusal.

Starwal: Just The Tip might be the best name for a game I've ever heard.
There's some Steam Train videos where they all play Starwhal and Nidhogg. The both look like a blast to play, but I hope they have online and not just local MP.
That's a nice long list of indies. I don't know most of them, but Escape Goat looks like good times.
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.

Okay, so I was ignoring the Wii, and technically Microsoft and Sony were fighting for #2. Whatever. And I never said the 360 stayed ahead of the PS3, forever and ever, but it was ahead for a long time. Before the Japan tangent, my whole point was that the PS3 was losing (360 had a year head start, was millions of units ahead, selling more week-to-week; gamers and game "journalists" were writing it off; it was the age of "lolsony!"), but they got their shit together and got it done in the end. I was criticizing people who are already calling the XBO "done" at just under 6 months in. The PS3 looked like a clear loser 6 months into it's life.
And regarding the Japan tangent, I'm not saying they're not important at all, but they're not the deciding factor they used to be.
Uh, didn't the PS3 pull ahead of the 360 at the end there?
Yes, Sony came from behind and took the lead at the tail end, but that doesn't change the fact that the 360 was ahead for most of the generation. But Sony coming back from behind was what I was talking about in the first place.
See, in so far as "winning" the generation the Xbox1 is in trouble but not because it'd be impossible for it to ultimately sell more units. "Winning", at least to those of us who aren't Sony/MS executives, means being the primary platform of the generation. The Xbox360 did this in spades. All the horrible ports or games the PS3 only eventually got. This evened out somewhat in the long run but the common perception didn't. Being down so much, so early has to make developers strongly question going primary on the XB1. It means any money hats for true exclusivity are going to have to be that much larger for the Xbox1. Now there is a bunch of things that may undermine the importance of this in our current gen. The same base architecture means the "secondary" console isn't that much different from the first so there is probably less relative cost to port a PS4 game to the Xbox1 than a Xbox360 game to the PS3.
In no way does "trouble" mean anything about MS getting out of the market. There is no chance of that happening at least until the next generation and even then I think it's unlikely the Xbox brand just disappears.
Had a little play with Share Factory and it's fantastic - interface is intuitive and it's easy to hop between tools. Touchpad scrubbing is an obvious but great inclusion, I hope they add it to clip previews outside the app.
I didn't have time for actual editing, just dumped some Mozart and Beethoven over random BF4 clips.
I'm still working on my first Sharefactory videos. I've had some setbacks due to some small issues with the program and bigger issues with recording footage.
But everyone needs to check out this amazing thing:

BTW for those of you who have never sen the source trailer here it is (The PSB didn't post it in their blog because it meantions those who should not be mentioned in the X1 and steam lol)
We know by now that Quantic Dream is working on a new PS4 game, and today the developer posted a new career opportunity ad seeking a Senior 3D animator.
What’s really interesting in the ad is that between the responsibility of said animator there will be keyframing everything that isn’t motion captured, including “animals, monsters, stunts and vehicles.”
I'm not sure I'm buying what Quantic Dream is selling anymore
Beyond was a massive disappointment

Heavy Rain was an interesting game, which on any analysis was a decided mess and I'm not really sure Beyond Two Souls did enough to do justice to the interesting premise it had.
Heavy Rain worked for me, where Beyond -almost- did, so I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on another game. Though, I'm honestly a little more curious as to how goddamn pretty it's going to look than anything else.

The PS3 came back mostly thanks to the popularity of their brand name in Europe and Asia, where PlayStation was basically synonymous with videogames to the mass public. All the changes they made certainly helped but it's not like their fortunes changed dramatically in the US and UK and if that holds true for the Xbone, where exactly are they going to sell the millions needed to keep up?

The main issue the Xbox will have in catching up is losing their huge advantage in the US, which is deeply ironic because throughout last year I decried Microsofts strategy of going for a "US centric" console and it definitely backfired if they actually lost the US (their primary market) to Sony. Even if the lead in the US isn't substantial, they definitely lost an incredible amount of ground throughout the rest of the world over it.
We'll have to wait for E3 to see what they do as I imagine there won't be anything announced until then.
Finally made my first SHAREfactory video. Took me several days and a lot of editing. I hope you guys like it (contains minor story and power spoilers for Infamous SS):
Since I spent quite a few hours with this program so far, allow me to offer you a few tips.
1. Split Clip is your friend. It's the easiest way to separate the chunks of footage you want to keep and erase the filler you don't want.
2. Split Clip does not work as you might think, where hitting X one sets the beginning of what you want to split and hitting it again ends where you want. Hitting X the first time just selects where you want the split to occur, and hitting it again just confirms it. Not a big deal, but thought you ought to know in case you thought what I thought at first.
3. Moving clips around will undo all the trimming you did to other clips. It's very annoying and I hope this gets addressed soon.
4. You can also split music along with clips, allowing you to adjust the volume (or erase that bit of the song entirely) of that individual split. It's how I pulled off the lower music during the dialogue bits in my video. It's not seamless, but it works.
5. You can't mix and match transition themes once you start your video. If you want to use, say, the Infamous transitions, you'll have to decide that before your project begins.
So with all that in mind, the easiest method I've found to get a video going is to dump all your footage, split out the parts you want, cut out the filler, then arrange the saved clips in the theoretical order you'd like them. Then fine-trim the clips afterward.
