Looks like the E3 narrative is starting to take shape. The new COD trailer calls out right at the beginning that it was captured on the XBone. I'd wager a guess that we'll find out during MS' keynote that they have some exclusivity in regards to COD DLC or something.
Activision's playing both sides fairly well so far. I believe everything that Bungie has released for Destiny has been shown on PS4, while the new COD is using the Xbox One.
Yeah, Child of Light supporting Cross-Buy came out of nowhere. I'm both surprised and impressed that Ubisoft actually did it, as they're the first major publisher (excluding Sony) to do so.

They had a multi-year contract with Microsoft, so I'm pretty sure they've got a couple of years left on it.
I really wanted a vita version but remote play ps4 will do the trick nicely too when my wife is hogging the TV.
I've a load of PS+ games to play, and child of light, but is there anything else you guys would recommend? Debating assassins creed but u never finished up revelations or 3, is that a problem?
See, in so far as "winning" the generation the Xbox1 is in trouble but not because it'd be impossible for it to ultimately sell more units. "Winning", at least to those of us who aren't Sony/MS executives, means being the primary platform of the generation. The Xbox360 did this in spades.
That's a very USA-centric viewpoint. What about Europe, Oceania, etc.?
You'll be confused outside the animus but the story in it is pretty well self-contained
I hadn't played ac since the first one. Didn't confuse me, but I'm sure there were lots of references that went over my head.
Well, if you played past the first game, you'll be wondering why some of the characters are in the place that the game takes place
It won't make much sense that those people are there unless you've finished AC3
those characters weren't in the first game.
OK, but the original question was asked by somebody who didn't play through Revelations or 3, so they did in fact play 2 and Brotherhood and have met those characters
It doesn't really matter anyway, AC4's story is structured in such a way that you don't need to have played any other AC game before and you'll get what's going on.

True, especially in the Animus
But outside it, especially if you go hacking the computers regularly:

You learn about Desmond's death
Hey, better to find out that way in AC4 than having to play AC3.
Oh, I did not know Demon Souls 2 would be a From Software title.
Edit: Is this happening? It thought From Software ran off and did their own thing with Dark Souls.
You think those images could be faked? It's definitely happening and they're clearly making some changes to differentiate it from Dark Souls (looks like a pirate theme and that there'll be guns).
This is from the Demon's/Dark Souls team, headed by Miyazaki. Dark Souls 2 was developed by a different From Software team (some call it a "B team" but those labels are almost always pretty dumb). So it looks like they're going to go forward with two teams working on their respective Souls series, which is a smart move given that Demon's/Dark Souls are the most popular games From has ever produced. It's not like Armored Core is selling gangbusters these days.

Oh. I quoted this to by accident which then revealed the spoiler
I was actually going to ask if someone could briefly spoiler the relevant plot points from AC: Revelations and 3. What I remember from Brotherhood (which I really enjoyed) was at the end:
Desmond was possessed for some reason and stabbed Lucy, he was then in a coma and the 'outside the Animus' bits in Revelations were (iirc) some really weird first person puzzle solving bits? My memory of the series is REALLY shaky. I was actually one of the few that LOVED the idea in the first game, whereas most just could have done without it. I delved in to all the computers and emails, everything. I was really hoping the last in the series would be set in modern times with a full Assassin skill-set. Unfortunately it's been ages since I've played them so I've pretty much forgotten anything.
So, any chance of a "Previously; on Assassin's Creed" for little 'ole me? If not I'll take to Wikipedia but that seems to largely dwell on the Ezio/Connor plots, which I'm not so interested in.

Yeah, this is the first exclusive of the generation that seems really interesting to me. I wonder how things would be if Sony had actaully believed in Demon's Souls.
See, in so far as "winning" the generation the Xbox1 is in trouble but not because it'd be impossible for it to ultimately sell more units. "Winning", at least to those of us who aren't Sony/MS executives, means being the primary platform of the generation. The Xbox360 did this in spades.

Err....developers tend to look at the overall install base. For quite a while Xbox had the lead last gen and was the primary console for development for most multiplatform games. A developer had to look at the total boxes out there over all regions unless they were making games that would somehow sell disproportionately in one region. Stuff like some of the very Japan orientated games or FIFA would be more likely to end up primary on PS3 but simply by knowing you wouldn't have massive sales kinda disqualifies you from the kind of games I'm talking about.
There is more to it, there were definitely technical differences that have become much less of a concern this gen than last, but my major thrust is that independent developers can't afford to be console fan boys and the money guys won't let them. This, combined with sticky perceptions of dominance, are what I'm proposing "winning" is about.
I've a load of PS+ games to play, and child of light, but is there anything else you guys would recommend? Debating assassins creed but u never finished up revelations or 3, is that a problem?
AC 4 is ridiculously good and I enjoyed it perfectly fine never giving a fuck about the overarching Assassin Creed storyline since one of the 2's. There is enough you can understand both sides fine though i don't doubt that the office stuff means more if you're more invested in the series. The office stuff isn't really the reason to play the game though....

Nyko DS4 Power pack promises 2x the battery life and is coming May 26th
So it's an extra battery wart that you attach to the back of your controller? Eww!
I still need to take a controller to the local battery shop, I know those guys can whip up a decent battery for it. They've made all kinds of crazy battery packs for me.

Thanks for that, I'm now all caught up. The real world stuff sounds like I got less interesting as the games went on, sort of like they really didn't know which way they were going with it.

It's been on a steep downward trend ever since Patrice left. Nowadays it's just bullshit you should roll your eyes at and try to get through as quickly as possible.
I subbed to Gamefly for a month or two to catch up on some of the games I missed. They sent me MGS:GZ and Infamous to start.
MGS:GZ is...interesting. First of all, the game is gorgeous but I forgot that it's super short. There's one solid "mission" that you'd expect from an MGS game, complete with a fuckton of cinematics. Then they cut you loose and you can do some one-off missions on the same map with varying weather/lighting/etc. The controls seem a bit kludgy to me, unfortunately, and the gunplay feels exceptionally "meh." I feel like in an MGS game I could do fine with one of those, but I basically get caught because Boss doesn't know how to fucking stand still and then I can't shoot my way out. I don't see myself trying to 100% this.
After Infamous I think I'll go Tomb Raider or AC4? Any suggestions or omissions? The rest of my list feels like filler (Thief, NFS:Rivals, Knack). I've already got BF4/KZSF/NBA 2k14.

NFS: Rivals is actually really enjoyable. I'm not sure what state the multiplayer is at at the moment, but it worked pretty well when I was playing it.
Torn between Trials and Octodad, I'm thinking Trials for now, as a quick 5-minutes-here-and-there game for when I'm not playing Child of Light (which is GORGEOUS but the poetry is awful), then grabbing Octodad when that's done.
Very curious to see the reviews of Bound in flame...pics are nice but as usual, can be very misleading about the gameplay/quality.
There are a few lengthy walkthrough videos up now from people who got it early. What I saw didn't look great (the lack of feedback in combat especially bugged me), which I suppose isn't shocking considering it's by the Mars: War Logs developer.

Sony Japan Studio are co-developing, just like Demon's Souls, so yeah.

And now we know exactly what the main development team between Demon's Souls and Dark Souls (I) was doing while a B-Team made Dark Souls II.
