[FTL] Advanced Edition and iPad Edition is out now! Prepare to die (a lot)!
At this point everyone and their mother should have a good idea of what FTL is about and own a copy.
As a reminder, FTL: Advanced Edition is a free content expansion for FTL. All current (and future) customers will receive this update regardless of where they purchased it.
The iPad version of FTL will require an iPad version 2 or higher (iPad 1 is not supported) and will cost the same as the PC version, $10. It will be the complete game, including the new Advanced Edition content, and will not have any in-app purchases. We are proud to say that the iPad version is a true equivalent to the PC in the experience it provides, which is why we are price matching to the PC version.
Tom Francis of Gunpoint described it as “Firefly by way of Spelunky.” It has also been compared to Weird Worlds and Battlestations.
I like to think of it as Oregon Trail in outer space, with much greater focus on your wagon. Head over to the site and see for yourself and if you want to know more feel free to let me know.
I still haven't unlocked the crystal ship! Of course, I haven't played the game much in over a year. I also only play on easy mode because that is hard enough for me.
I'm hoping Patrick Klepek at Giant Bomb starts playing this as part of his "daily roguelike" feature soon. He's already done Spelunky and is currently working on The Binding of Isaac. Both have been a lot of fun to watch.
I don't blame you I have won the game on normal but I tend to play on easy because even that is hard enough for me with most of the ships and it is a slight bit less like to just give me an FU encounter that makes me rage quit that game.
I worked through a lot of the alpha testing of the new systems and side missions/ships. It is incredible how much the game feels fresh and new. You guys are in for a treat.
I took another crack at getting to the crystal sector with the rock cruiser.
By chance, in one battle I got a hull breach in the corridor leading to where the drone bay would be, and a fire started in the room itself. Since Rock B starts with Oxygen 2, I was able to keep that entire section on fire for two full sectors (and safely because of the hull breach in the corridor would put the fire out if it tried to burn up the rest of the ship). I really wanted to take my burning ship into a mantis sector and have them teleport boarding teams into a burning room.
Sadly, in a fight with a drone, I took a damage to O2 from a missile fired by a drone, and the fire burned itself out. I took it as a sign and promptly died. Well, maybe letting the rebel fleet catch up to me while I investigated Distress signals in search of the pod didn't help, either.
The team putting this out is super classy for shipping it free, especially after they clearly reached the new/enhanced feature point where folks would (mostly) happily have paid something.
Steam needs to start selling extra hours in the day...
I simultaneously love and hate how quickly a seemingly awesome run can go south almost instantly given the right(?!) circumstances.
For myself those circumstances generally involve boarding parties and missiles.
bane of my existance I can never resist trying to board even when I see them reving the jump engines. Always funny when half your crew goes flying away DOH.

Knowing them personally, and growing up with Justin he is extremely humble. He's beyond elated with the success of this project and both he and Matt work tediously to improve it. I know for Jus, he's just really passionate about delivering a great experience, so this enhanced edition allowed them to put things they had envisioned the first time around into the game now. I recall as the deadline was coming up, they were very focused on delivering FTL as a finished project so they made the decision to polish the content rather than delaying their game to stuff additional things in. I can't state enough how great this is and how happy you guys will be with the additional features. Having this game on iOS is pretty rad, so you can certainly support them by picking up a copy in the App store
Did he do okay financially on FTL? I can only imagine...
I'd assume better than okay, but numbers have never been officially released. I will say the dude spent many years in China below our poverty line, he lives by his means. He is just now afforded the time to comfortably develop his game and work on new projects. I'm happy to see him succeed at something our parents jokingly thought was a wasted endeavor. This comic is what we usually reference:
i'd love if there were an android port. i'd kill to play this on my note 3 wherever when ever. i would smuggle my phone past checkpoint charlie at work and claim i have a stomach bug which requires untold hours of sitting in a toilet cubical, exploring the stars.
and having all my ships blow up a lot and then having to think of a new ship name each time i play because goddamnit, it's the only way to play.
Android is just such a pain compared to IOS though - I can understand why they wouldn't. Just figuring out the devices that it would be compatible with in terms of screen size (the UI needs a minimum amount of estate) would be a pain in itself, let alone the device compatibility issues and android version problems.
Last I heard, your average game makes only about 20% on Android of what it makes on iOS for a slew of reasons.
Now FTL is pretty far outside the 'normal' for mobile games so who knows how it turns out. But I do understand a developer that hasn't done mobile before try iOS first and then move on to android if it is worthwhile and feasible.
Man, I really hope this drops at either 9pm or midnight pst. Hopefully its not a "sometime on the third", but it's an indie dev so obviously we'll see.

I just really want to ftl+ tonight :P
Chances are that it'll be out tomorrow at either 10 AM EST or 1 PM EST.
It's a pipe dream but I'm hoping this expansion shores up how well FTL plays on a Surface Pro. It'd be nice to be able to run it full screen and still be able to use the touch interface.
On lethalfrag's stream, one of the developers is doing an AMA. Quick highlights:
Android will be taken a look at, but they believe more iPad focus was the better move.
Saves between current version and AE 'should' work, but is not guaranteed.
If you are new to the game, disable the AE before you play. It's incredibly more complicated.
He's a super chill dude, and sub mode is off. The link is here!
Feel free to release this on Steam tomorrow at 5pm GMT, I'll just have arrived back home after taking my wife and kids to the airport. Much appreciated, ta.

Maybe I'll be able to get victories on all ships with both layouts by then. Engi B, Fed Cruiser A, and Slug B left to do!

Not that I wouldn't bloody love it if they did.
Done, screen size solved.
