Woo! Can progress on my main again. Got tired of waiting around watching people intentionally bust it and hold up more and more people so got an alt up to 7, so it wasn't all bad.

Haven's also a proper hub after that quest. And a better one than Elden Root imo, because it's not a five-story set of twenty rooms.
Ugh, man I dunno if it's the nature of their megaserver infrastructure or what but the length of their server downtimes is really annoying. I haven't had a day off since launch where they weren't in maintenance downtime.
Ugh, guess I need to start staying away from the ESO subreddit. Quickly turning into the official forums where everyone feels like they're entitled to 24/7 uptime and patches will be implemented with no interruptions.
Could they have chosen better times for their patches so far? Sure. But it feels like everyone is completely disregarding the fact that these are fixing major quest bugs for people. I'd rather have a couple hours of downtime and this stuff fixed now, personally.
I also find it hilarious that people tend to forget what happens during an MMO launch week between launches. I saw someone post about how "GW2 doesn't have to bring their servers down all the time." ...yes, an established MMO has the kinks worked out. Honestly, ESO has had a relatively smooth launch for me. Perfect by no means, but at least I was able to play the game day 1.

It's been my impression overall that people just really want to hate this game. Even the people that bought it, it seems.
Not really all that bothered by maintenance, what does bother me though is the game all of a sudden thinking you are trying to log in from a new IP then the subsequent code that they send you not working and locking you out your account. Fun.......
In terms of Hit&Miss that comic was a definite Miss.
I really liked it.
I admit it wasn't a fair reflection of ESO specifically, but it definitely makes a point with MMOs in general, where the constant of upgrading of items is the true goal, taking a backseat to story and plot (which is where ESO shines, IMO).
Blah, contacted customer support about changing my account name and they said "Sure, just reply to this email with your current account name, what you'd like for the new one, and the answer to your security question."
Now does anyone remember their security question? Because I sure as hell don't until you actually ask the question. You're not the only website that has those, Zenimax. First pet's name, best friend's name, street I grew up on, brand of my first car... hell if I know.
I'm enjoying the game a lot so far. Haven't quite decided on what weapon or role I want to fill. But it's nice that while I dick around I'm not really having to slow down because I want to try out another weapon. So far I'm enjoying 2h weapons the most just because of how a 2h power attack killing blow looks occasionally. It's uncharacteristically brutal for an MMO. I wish I made my Orc's body type bigger is all. Can you edit your looks in game or am I stuck?

I don't want to hate the game, but I don't get the impression that the game likes me quite frankly. Between broken quests, frequent and lengthy server downtimes and a launcher that occasionally bugs out and wants me to do a full reinstall, I keep getting the impression that they don't actually want me to put in any time playing the game. Heck, I wouldn't even mind the downtimes that much, if it wasn't for the fact that they seem to take 4 to 12 hours. That's alot of lost playtime, that we're paying for both in the form of a box price and a subscription.

This does not seem to be a typical experience. Sorry, you're having so many problems. If I were in that situation I would probably feel the same way.

You don't write this stuff down? I mean, these are security questions to access your account. If you just write whatever slop you think of in there, and don't write it down somewhere, how is that Zenimax's fault?

This isn't the first time I've seen this complaint on the very forum. It's baffling.
Admittedly though, the purpose of the secret answer is to be in response to a question. Why would they not ask you the question?
Yeah I just answer those questions truthfully. I'm more worried about forgetting a made-up answer than I am some hacker researching my personal real life history in order to figure out my favourite sports team or what street I grew up on.
I don't really like ANY of the helmets in the game. They look kind of off to me, maybe large? The hoods aren't too bad, but heavy armor helmets? nothx.
But I also almost never like helmets in MMOs so...
That A. There's a motif that can be found to let you craft armor like that and B. They remember to keep the crafting in-line with what drops. They've got an excellent system right now where you can use crafting to essentially make the exact gear you want down to the trait, enchant, quality and even appearance in most cases. It'd be a shame if they let that drop off with new content.

The of course poses the question: If all the best gear can be crafted, down to the exact stat and style, what incentive is there to keep people doing late game content and playing?
I don't have the answer, but it will be interesting to see how ZO handles it.
It's not easy being able to do that however. It will take a great amount of time investment to be able to craft everything possible with just one profession, let alone everything you'll need. On top of that, getting the material to upgrade epics into Legendaries(I have no idea what they call the gold equipment) will likely be a long process.

It's legendary. They basically just went with the standard "green = better than base, blue = rare, purple = epic, orange/golden = legendary" color scaling that has become nearly defacto in the industry.
And that all may be true, but it remains to be seen if players will accept replacing one grind (gear) with another (stuff to make gear). Every time Blizzard tried to go to a purely token or mat based approach, people revolted and wanted the bosses to drop actual immediate upgrades as well.
You're already seeing people complaining that bosses in ESO drop basically no special loot (especially since the chests are not instanced and there are already some serious trolling problems in pug groups over chests).

The bosses I've run into drop nicer stuff than most of the trash, but maybe I'm just not killing trash in high enough quantity.
But yeah, people will bitch about everything. It doesn't make them right.

I do think they need to figure out a better solution for chests in dungeons. At this point in time it's more productive for a troll to sit around and be awful, not fight, and just grab chests. Not to mention you can't actually kick someone for this behavior.
I imagine we'll see some changes to how this works, or at least a fix for kicking people. Boss drops are all over the place, but it wouldn't be such a big issue if chests weren't nearly 100% of the time better AND set up so trolls get the advantage.
Just started playing lastnight with a friend. Only level 6 but I'm already having a lot more fun than I did during the one beta weekend I played. Group questing/combat makes things a lot more fun.
One dumb question I have - how much am I going to kick myself if I spread skill points over multiple weapon disciplines? I still haven't been able to decide whether I want my dragonknight to go dual wield or 2-handed. Actually I'm still finding I use a lot of 1h + shield to avoid dying. Since I haven't made a decision on what I want to do long-term I've been avoiding sinking any points into weapon skills. But because I don't have any weapon skills I think my combat effectiveness sort of blows. Am I going to be kicking myself if I chuck a couple of points into a tree that I end up not using? Are respecs available at all?

You won't be kicking yourself at all. You'll have more than enough skill points in the end. The only issue I've ran into is there's not enough skill points right now to use for skills I want. But with quests that give skill points, levels and skyshards, there's more than enough.
Granted I'm only level 7, but almost every piece of gear I use is either from a quest or crafted. Drops and chest loot I use almost exclusively for deconstructing and research. I'd be fine with a boss loot being the temper (I think that's what they are called?) that allows me to upgrade to a legendary weapon or runes to give it more death sparkles (lightning dmg, more crit, etc.)
I get that would not make everyone happy though. When you kill the big baddy of doom, you want to take his axe from him and chop skulls.
I am having a stupid amount of fun playing a mace/shield fire-tossing breton templar right now (who just happened to ally herself with the high elves).
I normally play games in 20-30 minute bursts for a variety of reasons. With TESO, though, it seems like every time I've checked, I've played 3 or 4 hours straight. I am loving this game...

FYI: you can keep galloping even if the stamina bar on the horse is empty, you'll just get knocked off instantly if hit.
Woah, I did not know this! I thought it seemed faster than normal even after stamina ran out, but I assumed it was a bit of a placebo effect. Nice!

I feel like this will be a paid thing at some point like WoW and SWTOR did. SWTOR's was blessedly in-game (and cheap!) though.

what, so should I bother adding stamina if I'm not too worried about riding thru hostile areas?

I've just had to log from the EU server.
People were reporting getting disconnected when entering instances, whisper, mail and guilds were down, and it was getting generally laggy.
At least I got to quit at a reasonable hour.
Of course, I have that Civ V game to finish off...
