This year was my 3rd PAX. I take a bus down, $60 round trip, just have to drive 45-60 min to the bus "station". I live 4-5 hours from Boston, but just thinking about driving down there gives me a headache, not to mention parking. Only took a taxi foing from the bus station to the hotel, then back to the bus station. Took the shuttle to and from the convention center. I think I only got to sit for 2 of rides because the shuttles were so full, but they were FREE so being a sardine for a few min was worth it. One of the benifits of living north of Boston, it's always 10-20 degrees colder here and a lot more snow on the ground. When I get down there it's almost like summer! All 3 years I was in shorts and t-shirt all weekend. Rather be a little cold for a couple mins outside then being too hot walking around in a crowded building all day, or having to cary extra cloths around. Plus I don't like wearing pants, to hard to show off my Gears of War tattoo!

I usually set tweets from the @Official_PAX account to go straight to my texts once PAX Prime ends. By then I won't get all of the Prime tweets but tickets for East will be pretty close.
I've been three years now. Coming from Baltimore, the first year I drove, second year flew, and last year took the train. I can tell you that I will never, ever drive again. Between traffic, tolls, gas, and parking, it was expensive and a hassle I don't want to deal with again. Taking the train up was fun, especially since I was with friends. We played games and the 7.5 hours didn't seem too bad. Taking the train back, however, wasn't very fun. Post PAX, it was a long trip. Flying was great. 50 minutes from BWI to Logan, and then the T takes you right to the convention center. It's a little more expensive than taking the train, but totally worth it.
March will not be bad as i am prob gonna be cosplying (cooler weather i hope!), now here is hoping they do not announce the night before again so i can maybe get a better closer hotel.
Anybody know how the Lake shore limited is during March?, telling by its recent history i am prob not gonna take it not worth the risk of arriving in the middle of the night.

my biggest concern with the timing of early March is the possibility of flight delays and cancellations ... think I may have to allow a couple of days additional to ensure I arrive even if there are cancellations on my appointed day
PAX East 2016 .... gots my Passes [x] Hotel [x] Flights [x] Packed [..] .... ok we're all good !!!!!
I am really stressing about getting tickets this year. PAX South doesn't seem to be picking up as there are still day tickets available, plus, I only got tickets last year because of the 24 hours announcement, which I had to ask work if I could switch shifts so I could be at home at the time they came out. When they announced Prime and South, by the time I saw those announcements, 3 days (and everything for prime) was already sold out.
It's gotten a lot harder since my first PAX East (2012), which was just an impromptu, let's go PAX! which was in the January and 3 days were available then, but after that it's gone from days to hours being sold out. I really hope I don't luck out this year.
ya pretty much have to be lucky and be on right when they get on sale. good thing for me is i work nights so as long as they dont go on sale on a weekend or past 4pm i should be ok
Well hoping they do not announce the night before again, i guess we will just have to treat every single day when it says SOON like it will go on sale.
One of the perks of working from home at least, i can be on top of it the second they go on sale hopefully.

The big dig was a very different beast from putting up some commercial hotels- namely, it was a public works project, and thus subject to levels of graft, corruption and plain old inefficiency that caused it to drag on, and on, and on- there was no oversight, and it was a very big, very complex bit of work, so it spiraled out of control.
Hilton hotels (for example) s isn't going to want construction on a new property to take that long since a- It causes construction costs to skyrocket, and b- If there's no hotel on land they've bought, they're not making money off their investment. Plus, building a hotel takes far, far less time than digging a massive tunnel for traffic underneath a major metropolitan area,
Good to know the date in advance for East 2015 - over a month earlier than last year, pretty interesting!
While the dates are out of the question, is there ever a general time of day that tickets tend to go on sale? I am a full time student and, while I will have my iPad on hand, I don't exactly want to be whipping out my debit card in the middle of class.
Also, to all arriving after me talking about transit: parking in Boston is literally a nightmare. The mass transit system is solid. Use it. (Promise I'm not a paid MBTA spokesperson!)

They usually in the early afternoon eastern time. As for a day itself, that is anyone's guess.
The big dig was the largest public works project basically ever. My company just built a new HQ in Boston downtown and I think it only took 2 years? Place is huge too. I'm sure everyone is looking to add the hotels ASAP, as it means money in the bank for PAX and any conference.
I am hoping I can get a 3 day pass this year and stay at the Westin again. Last year was the first year I couldn't get either, and I usually make it a 4 or 5 day vacation. If memory serves me correctly, they announced a day before that stuff would go on sale the next day. If that happens this coming year, I will definitely be calling in sick and having all 5 computers and 3 phones primed for the site to go live.
I wish I was coordinated enough to use all those at once. I am getting super nervous I am going to get shut out of this event and that makes me sad.

I think someone said that they didn't expect that kind of forewarning, again. That it would probably be more like in past years....maybe a cryptic "soon"...but no definitive til they go up. Anyone remember the same?

Right now, air fare is about $175 round trip from Regan to Logan assuming a 90 day pre-book.
It's about 440 miles, one way, to Boston from DC, 880 miles round trip, by car.
You'd need to get 20mpg or worse, in your car, to make flying cheaper JUST figuring gas (and not wear and tear).
That's notwithstanding any great deals on air fare you can find (they do exist)!
You also have to factor in parking in Boston (not cheap) and time outlay for both, as you may have to take more time off work to drive.

Maybe they could order some these from China with rockets attached and they could shoot them over. (Probably land on the Big Dig, never mind).

it seems like nothing will be ready for PAX East 2015, but MAYBE 2016, and definitely 2017.
