I realize the odds are on the improbable side, but I'm really hoping that the passes go on sale while I'm taking my go-nowhere, do-nothing vacation during the first week of October. Of course now that I'm expressing that idea they will inevitably go on sale the week before or after on a day that I'm out on the road.
My boyfriend really wants to go. So the plan (if I'm lucky) is to surprise him with the trip. I'm mentally prepared to spring for 2 sets of single day badges.
I think someone said that they didn't expect that kind of forewarning, again. That it would probably be more like in past years....maybe a cryptic "soon"...but no definitive til they go up. Anyone remember the same?
ugh I hope not I really loved knowing in advance what exact time and day they would be up. There is no way I would have gotten tickets last year otherwise.
Yeh, the company they used last year was completely screwed when they opened up the ticketing system. There was instances of getting in the queue and never getting out, being able to get in on a cell phone but not a computer, not having phone support properly working, and numerous other problems. I would think, well, hope, that they would be better prepared this year....

There was a lot of "yea" and "nay" discussion about the methodology they used last year vs years past. And..for both Pax South and Pax Prime..they went back to the the "surprise, tickets are on sale" method.
That's not to say things won't change, again..but it seems like it might be at least a decent indicator of their mindset, and position on the feedback of last year. We'll see.....

So how is it even possible to get tickets if there is no prior notice and it sells out in 15 minutes?

Set up notifications/alerts on the Official PAX and Robert Khoo's Twitter feeds. Hope that you're near a computer when the word goes out.

Glue yourself to the official twitter feeds and pray?
To be clear, only the full weekend passes sold out in 15 min. You could get single days, for all 3 days, for at least a couple hours after they went up. So as long as you're keeping an eye out, you should be able to get Fri - Sun passes.
And I wouldn't be surprised if we get a cryptic "Soon" or "keep an eye out" at some point before...I'm just not sure they'll come out and say "Hey, at this time, on this specific date, they're going up".
They might..but they didn't repeat that with Pax Prime, or Pax South...so....I wouldn't count on it.
You can sign up for push notifications (a text message or popup) from individual twitter accounts with just the default twitter app.
First, be following the account. Then, have it also as a "Favorite".
Next, go to Settings. Click your account name. Click on Notifcations. Make sure you have the ability to receive notifcations. Then click "Favorite People".
From there, highlight the type of push notice you want to receive from particular favorite accounts.
(That's for Android, I assume the iOS version is similar).
I think was rascrush is trying to say is:
You can set up mobile notifications through the Twitter website. On the profile page of the account you want to receive texts from there is an option menu next to the "Following" icon that will allow you to turn on mobile notifications. Your phone number can be edited in your profile settings.
A pattern that seems to be forming is that there is a period of time between when they update the site before tickets go live. It was really long for Prime 2014 (almost a month I believe) and for South I believe there was a period of time also. Hopefully they continue this trend so that at least we know when we have to start being alert.
Anyone else think there is a chance badges won't go on sale until after south? They released badges pretty close to prime if I remember correctly and they may not want to focus on east until after south.
After south is too close to east's start though, have they ever gone on sale less then 2 months before?. Prob will go on sale in the next few weeks i would guess.

Is it out of the question to hope for a weekend/Columbus Day ticket release? My school has been cracking down (sometimes literally) on iPad use during the day so it'll be tough to get tickets otherwise.

PAX EAST 2015 IS A GO!
I will check every other day/week for tickets, this will be my first PAX, Still havent decided on wheter im cosplaying or not
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if you really want to go, it is unlikely that that will be sufficient. Optimistically, you'll maybe have an hour or so after tickets go on sale before they are completely sold out.

Before FULL WEEKEND/3 day passes are sold out, yes.
But you will likely have a few hours to get a full set of daily passes (ie: A friday pass, a saturday pass, a sunday pass).
Last year, Saturday passes were sold out in a few hours..but Friday and Sunday passes were still available the next day...and Sunday's were available til around November 7th.

Passes have sold out significantly faster each successive year and I wouldn't expect this to change. In the past three years, to go the entire weekend, we have moved from ~20 days -> almost a day -> a few hours. East seems to be headed down a very similar path to the one prime took, if a few years behind the curve. While you may have a few hours to get a full set of one days, I certainly wouldn't bank on it.

Maybe so. But we also have Pax South potentially offloading some of the demand for East. There's just no knowing.
And that's a far cry from "Optimistically, you'll maybe have an hour or so after tickets go on sale before they are completely sold out" That's overstating, unless you're talking ONLY about full weekend passes. More to the point...your scenario is more "Pessemistically" framed. It would be a worst case scenario that's far worse than what we've seen in any other year. If you were talking about Prime...I'd be right there with you. But East is typically a bit slower, historically, than "whatever" Prime has done that year.
What we categorically know is what history tells us: That you've had at least a few hours to get Saturday (historically, the day that goes fastest) passes...and usually a few days or so to get Friday passes. Sunday passes typically take a week or more to sell out. Yes, it's trending toward faster and faster. But I don't see any sign it will be AS FAST as Prime was this year. It never has been....
To the OP: The point remains...checking every day might not be enough, depending on when you check. We're really only quibbling over details. Set twitter mobile alerts to your phone (it's the only alert I set this time of year) and be ready to go ASAP. I know that's hard sometimes, but...that's your best chance.
And be ready for the ticket software to bog down and be slow! In previous years, I'd have recommended a tablet, laptop. or PC (vs a smart phone)....but last year the mobile app actually performed better.

Also, keep in mind that last year, we all knew what day passes would go on sale. Thus, people were 'camping' out for them and were able to jump as soon as they went available.
This year, all we've got are educated guesses and thus, we won't have people on their systems, clicking 'refresh' until the system goes up.
between the fact that people knew the sale date last year (and probably won't this year) and the fact that sales do tend to go faster each year, it seems like there's really just NO way to tell how fast they'll go this year. last year was a different system and the year before was too long ago to be a good indicator. in short: if you want to know how to be SURE to get passes, the truth is there is no way. you can increase your odds, but in the end you're still taking a chance just like the rest of us. no one has a guarantee. so good luck!
ya i would say we should have about a hour before the 3 day pass goes but that is just a guess. At this point as they have set set alerts to twitter to be sent to your phone and I would suggest checking at least a few times a day on the site from now till they go on sale cause are best guess is that that will happen in the next 2-3 weeks or so if past cases mean anything.
I have 2 days in October where I'll be in Vegas (during the week at least), so as long as badges don't go on sale then I'll be golden... otherwise I'll be super pissy.
@TheAggroCraig you should have a friend cover you during those days ... especially if they have ordering room.
I plan on it, I'm just more concerned about hotels. Most of my friends aren't competent enough to grab one though, but I have one person who can hopefully do it.
worse comes to worse you can always room share thats what I did last year though I was the one who grabbed the room and then filled it up and it worked great for me

Yea, this is what I'm more worried about. I know enough PAX people where I can get the tickets I need if I miss out. Hotel on the other hand, eh. After staying at the Seaport this year, I don't want to go back to the Park Plaza and have to walk/shuttle it to the convention.

Also, Zerz, do you think we should put up a registration anticipation thread? We seem to be talking about that a lot now.
