TV Audio Chip Going Bad?

I have a 32" Vizio that is about 4 years old. Since we got it there have been slight audio anomalies. At first it was a sort of static and delay effect after the set had been on for a few hours. I always assumed it was my Xbox 360 doing this for some reason but it turns out that it was the T.V. all along. Well a couple months ago it just downright acted like it was done producing audio and if you heard anything at all it was just a faint hissing. We bought a new T.V. and what do you know if course the sound on the old set (kind of) starts working again.

It's good for maybe an hour and then at will start to make static noises and just quit with audio all together. Turning it off and back on may or may not bring it back for a little while. Finally now I get to the question. Does anybody know how this might be fixed other than replacing the main board? I looked into that and there do not seem to be any available for this model anymore. It is definitely the audio processor because plugging in headphones/speakers/etc. only produces the same results or nothing at all. If there is some DIY fix for this I would love to know. I don't have the model number on hand but if anybody wants it let me know and I can post it later.
