Have you ever caught yourself wondering "gosh, I wish there were more bands like Queens of the Stone Age out there"? Don't worry fam, Deaf Radio's got you covered with their latest album.
Hmmmmm, normally I go out and drive for Uber on Friday night because it's a good night to earn cash, but I just learned that Sylvan Esso is playing the Walt Disney Concert Hall backed by an 8-piece band.
Maybe I should do that instead...

I think this AV Club list is a bit better than their movie one. Real hard to argue against one even if it feels worse every day...
The only argument I have is Meh
but then I tend to listen to stuff on bandcamp long before I but main stream releases
I mean, most people don't exactly know Pile and Deafheaven. I think its a pretty good mix of smaller and mainstream releases even if something with 2k listens on Spotify doesn't make the cut.

I'm not surprised that the A.V. Club essentially ignores metal as a genre, but I am disappointed. Some really brilliant metal albums came out this decade.

Is Jason Heller still at AVC? He wrote some pretty excellent metal coverage

3 out 50 are in the metal genre, but granted, at the periphery.
You guys ever drive home one night and put Bob Seger on the Spotify and Night Moves comes and on and you're like "hoo boy" and then You'll Accompany Me comes up next and you just start crying as you're driving down the interstate?

I saw deafheaven live with baroness and zeal and ardor back in spring.
They seemed ok.
I might argue that Deafheaven is probably the perfect intersection of the metal I most enjoy (stuff like Boris, Pelican, King Diamond, Sunn O)))), lyrics that have an unusual and wide range (even if they are in a growl), and the dreamy post-rock and shoegaze I like more than any other style of music.
If these tastes and desires don't really match up with anyone else's, I absolutely get that. They are in a real specific lane, but they do that lane exceptionally well.
jack peñate is a lovable cockney singer songwriter who's evolved from rabble-rousing ska-pop to ethereal synth and now gospelly bangers... he just released his first album in a decade and you all should give it a red hot go
Glass Animals have a new single out with Denzel Curry.
Its p sick. They've been doing a lot of like, collabs and production with other artists and I fuckin love the sound they get. Like psychedelic hip hop.
I didn't realize Coldplay had a new album out. I've always had a soft spot for Coldplay, but Mylo Xylto was the last album I really listened to. I liked the more stripped down, acoustic sounds of their early stuff and after MX it got more pop I guess? Sounded more processed and dance focused.
Anyway, first couple of songs off Everyday Life sound like they're back to some of the simpler, softer, mellow piano and acoustic sounds of Parachutes with some Viva la Vida mixed in. I dig it so far!

For all you folks into weirdo bullshit avant-garde prog metal (like me), Lotus Thief released their new album today. It's based on the Oresteia, which is how you know they're nerds.

The whole album is just jams from start to finish, it rules.
Maybe I should do that instead...

Panoptikon, Deafheaven, and Converge.
Get this 9" nails-y sounding hot shit kids

Yeah me neither.
The best Bob Seger song is 'Get Out of Denver'

I saw him in concert many years back and he was amazing
I also would not doubt this.
He did an abysmal cover of Downtown Train and it made me decide I will never like Bob Seger.
I can only tolerate Rod Stewart's version because I've have a deep and abiding love for him since childhood.
but guys, tonight we'll be free, all the promises will be broken.

that time he teamed up with florence welch and felix white of the maccabees (maybe less synth-driven than i remember but definitely ethereal):

Billie Eilish Carpool Karaoke (17 mins)
It's real real good.
