Hi Groovy Music Thread. I know country-folky-americana-ish isn't most of your jams, but hey, maybe it is for someone. Zoe Muth had a new album pop on Tuesday, and I'm digging it.
The new album is a little slick, production-wise, compared to her first few - and I miss Ethan Lawton's mandolin work, but there's still some good stuff on there too. "Too Shiny" might be my favorite off the album (close tie with "Annabelle," which is a bit more diminshed - good rainy day music).
in term of what im actually listening to, i decided to try to get into post-punk for the first time since I was 17, and i like it a lot. The Fall and Wire are where i started
My wife is learning the mandolin, so this will be good to listen to and reference.
Plus, I know some folks who really love americana/country. So this will be cool to have in the library.
If she likes/is learning that style of mandolin, look up the first two albums (S/T Zoe Muth & the Lost High Rollers and "Starlight Hotel") The mandolin is seriously solid. Ethan Lawton is pretty great. I think he may have some solo stuff and other projects on bandcamp, etc. that you might want to check out.

if anyone's bummin' around in need of some music, i made a mix cd for a cd swap and just uploaded it to soundcloud. it may be a bit askew to a random listener because i had to follow specific rules in making it, but it's got a wicked flow and goes some interesting - mostly funky - places. i'm happy with it! lots of new stuff and even more vinyl obscurity from my collection

I use it occasionally but mostly to try before I buy, so to speak.
Like, I was thinking about buying the new silversun pickups album since I used to like them a lot. So I listened to it on Spotify, hated it, and saved ten bucks.

car needs cds and my laptop has no disc drive for burning (can slave one, but i'm lazy so this is an impediment)
got a record player recently so i'm into that, but it calls for me to be a bit more selective with my purchasing

Can anyone suggest a good starting point for Portugal the Man? They'll be at that festival and I want to get an idea of what to expect

I'm only really familiar with their first album, which is substantially different from the rest of their catalog
listened to Satanic Satanist, Censored Colors, and American Ghetto and they didn't make a huge impression at the time, but I like the song "When the War Ends"
been meaning to check out the couple more recent releases

check out the album Censored Colors, Clint. when I first listened to it, I listened to it on repeat for almost a whole weekend (and it was during the time I went to nyc for the last LCD soundsystem concert, so that's saying something)
pretty sure the whole time I was alternating between "what the fuck are these guys even doing" and "what the fuck this is brilliant"

AV Undercover returns for it's 5th season. First up: The wonderful Wye Oak cover Kate Bush's "Running Up That HIll."

Good gravy that's lovely
Also Wye Oak has been popping up on (and killing) Undercover for so long that I feel like I've watched them grow up there, which is very strange
Also don't forget that today the new Die Antwoord and Fucked Up albums dropped!
