"Band in a garage" style stuff, three dudes with a drum set and an electric guitar.
A real identifiable example would be Foo Fighters.
Anyone got any non-experimental rock suggestions? I'm getting a little burnt out on "odd" music, sometimes I just want to hear some dudes rock and roll.
Clutch.
Oh I should have posted examples but I'm on my phone, but basically anything from the Blast Tyrant album (my favorite of theirs) up to their new stuff is straightforward rock and roll or blues rock done perfectly.
They're probably most known for the song Electric Worry, but not all their stuff sounds like that.
jeff. how have we not sat and talked about clutch, my favorite band, and Blast Tyrant, my favorite album. GUESS WHAT WE'RE DOING NEXT WEEKEND

I've been listening to so much Chvrches over the weekend. So damn good
If you get a chance to, go see them perform live. Lauren Mayberry just belts out their songs, she's a great live performer.
I don't know why they keep pushing "Recover" as their live single on all of the late-night talk shows. It's a great track on the album but it just doesn't translate to a live show for me. I've always thought they should switch to "Night Sky," it gave me chills when I saw them in Chicago last year.
New Flashbulb album out today which I am super excited to get home and listen to: https://theflashbulb.bandcamp.com/album/nothing-is-real
I don't find myself liking every track, but he writes some absolutely beautiful stuff that hits all my buttons.
I don't know if they're played out here yet, but the new Black Keys album is phenomenal, nothing like I've heard them put out.
Also, I just found out that within a 2 month period, Weezer, Queens of the Stone Age, and the Black Keys are all playing within an hour from me. Looks like a great summer for live music.
oh god Coheed and Cambria announced a new tour where they're just playing one of their albums (my favorite) front to back and i wont have the money to get tickets until next friday

I just saw this today!
39 bucks, show's in September (here anyways) and they're playing all of In Keeping Secrets
I hope you're not trying to imply some one else's music choice is somehow bad because you don't like it.

Literally the only Coheed song I actually know is Welcome Home and I rather like it
But I've known a handful of dudes who were WAY INTO Coheed and they were silly people so mention of the band always makes me laugh
Coheed and Cambria is so far out of my usual wheelhouse and there's a lot of their stuff I don't like (basically Year of the Black Rainbow onwards) but I really dig their first four albums

The afterman double album was actually really good! Year of the Black Rainbow sucked though.
Caught George Strait in Atlanta last month. Was most excellent. Played a 2 hr 15 min set.
Wish I could have caught the show were Eric Church opened for him. Two cool things about that show. For those that aren't up on country music, Strait is known as the king of country music, with good reason. He's very much a traditional country singer. Church on the other hand is an up and comer that doesn't believe genres should limit your style, so he pushes the edge of country music a bit, particularly rock & roll.
So that said, the young redneck rock guy opens for the old traditionalist. Well, he knew that the crowd didn't come to see him and that most of them would be less than thrilled to hear hillbilly rock songs. So what does he do? He comes out on stage with a guitar and a stool. Plugs in and plays his whole set acoustic and alone.
Then he came out during Strait's set. That's the video below. Now even if you're not a fan, give it a click. At least for a minute or so. I dare you not to get a grin on your face when you see how fuckin' happy this guy is too just be on the stage with an idol. It's great, he literally can't contain his excitement when he gets to sing the chorus. Anywho.
I gotta say I'm a little disappointed with the new Black Keys
Like, musically it's great of course, but it's a lot more mellow and doesn't really have any of the harder jams that Brothers and El Camino featured

I haven't heard it yet (though I'm sure I will soon), but I gotta say that "mellow Black Keys" holds very, very little appeal to me

I totally understand their gradual shift toward what they're playing now, and it's not bad, but damn I miss when it was just the two of them rocking as hard as they possibly could. Their simple, raw sound combined with the excellent vocals were what drew me to them, but unfortunately that's been gradually going away since Attack and Release.
Probably why I enjoyed that Reignwolf concert a couple weeks ago so much. I'm telling you guys, if they ever stop touring and release a damn album they're gonna be huge.
I was at work yesterday, and a DJ stopped in and handed me one of our promo copies of the new Black Keys album.
I'm unimpressed.
It could just be me, though. I'm really in a rock and roll groove, and music (in general) is trending to a more synth/digital pop sound.
I just really miss a grungy powerful guitar. This was the song which sold me on the Black Keys, it was everything new and exotic. Blues plus grunge plus rock? What more is there?
Oh heeey. Three shows, three days in a row in the same place at the end of June: The Jayhawks (Friday), John Hiatt (Saturday), Jason Isbell (Sunday), $25/day is pretty reasonable. A good, live show weekend with no driving involved? That's fantastic (especially in a town where live music is... a struggle).
+1

what's that? a 2-piece garage band that has been getting less mellow over time, going from a bluesy groove on earlier albums to something harder?

It's got, I'd say, 3 solid tracks that I could jam out to going down the highway or something
The rest of it is good if you're in a particular mood or just want some bluesy stuff to have on the background but it lacks that stomp, if that makes any goddamn sense
I was surfing through my GPM for something to listen to, and Brand New popped up. I noticed they were classified as Punk. This warms the cockles of my mohawked heart.

A little on the mellow side, but that's never really a bad thing.
It's technically amazing, if you're into that kind of thing.

It sounds like more of the same, which isn't necessarily a problem. Although I do miss his angsty stuff a little.
White Women has a lot of songs that might persuade me to roll around town with my windows down

You can stream one of the tracks there too

Gonn' order a physical copy of that.

It's a shame they didn't really want to make this sound for as long as I wanted them to.

But tuned to be bluesy.
Yes, you are right and that makes sense. It's lacking the foot stompin' action that makes the band what it is.
