They said they shipped my vinyl of gold and grey yesterday but it still says usps awaiting item.

But they posted a picture on Facebook of the band signing the albums as they ship them out. So here's hoping I'll have a signed copy?

  • TallahasseerielTallahasseeriel Registered User regular
apparently they are signing for a limited number of record store exclusives tomorrow. Which one store in town is doing, I probably should have saved my money and got my copy from there tomorrow.

Still, one more day and I will get to download it, then next Tuesday my vinyl will be here.

Very excited. Stereogum had a very positive review up.

I am really mad, their online store thing won't let me download my mp3s, says my download limit has been reached or something.

Well at least I can listen to it on google play and such now.

    It's a really good album.

So I drove like 5 hours to SC to go to this show a couple weeks ago

and it was completely worth it. All three bands are great, and it was amazing hearing Coheed's new stuff from Unheavenly Creatures. They actually played Delirium Trigger as well!

I always give Metacritic a look on Fridays to see how new releases stack up, to sort of prioritize my listening and Baroness is sitting at a 98 right now.

There's something about Baroness's production that really bothers me and unfortunately makes their music basically unlistenable for me, which sucks because there's a lot going on in their songs otherwise that I like!

Yeah it's getting great reviews, which is appropriate because they are a fantastic band and really deserve another big hit.

Yeah the mix on their more recent albums is weird, often times a lot of clashing of the vocals and instruments, sometimes some minor drum clipping. But overall that's less apparent on this album than purple, it's still there... Particularly on the singles, but on some of the tracks it seems like they scaled some of the levels back.

So for me it's that their tracks have like a weird... rough fuzziness to them? It reminds me of listening to a low-bitrate MP3, but I'm listening to high-bitrate streams on decent hardware so I know it's not that. I think it's just the style they're going for or whatever, but it drives me up the wall.

I know what you mean trust me. I'm a big fan of theirs but it is a little frustrating.

I will say they are worth seeing live if you get the chance, the are touring with torche right now, they sound amazing live.

I think it works better for a band like, say, Electric Wizard, who are explicitly playing late 70's throwback Doom Metal, than for Baroness who have a more modern style.

Sorry dude :/ I know that feel

Anything else I say will probably make you feel worse, but C&C will def be around again if that’s who you were mainly wanting to see.

I was actually more pumped for Mastadon.

I should have more opportunities to see them, you'd think. They're based out of Atlanta, yeah? That's like a 2 hour drive.

Basically all I listen to these days is synthwave and Coheed

What are some other good synthwave artists/songs with vocals?

    So far I have:
    The Midnight
Timecop1983 (Reflections is probably the most perfect an album can be, the alternating vocal tracks then instrumental tracks is great)
    Trevor Something
    Robert Parker
    FM-84
    GUNSHIP
    Nina

Yeah, I’ve never looked to see if she has any of her own stuff, I always come across her featuring with other artists, such as Timecop or Nightcrawler

Of course, there’s also this great one-off

Not really synthwave, but electronicky and it has a very pleasant WUBWUBWUB in the chorus that my headphones enjoy.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsrylSTDvAw

Also, Foxes isn't really synthwave, but this song is pretty close and the background dancers have some odd moves.

Last weekend Warp Records (Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Autechre, FlyLo etc.) celebrated their 30th anniversary by taking over the internet radio station NTS.

The NTS archive is here, I don't think it includes everything.

Anyway, here's a couple of my own highlights:

Autechre played a two hour mix of early unreleased material (which is rather good), you can download it from their store page (You'll need to scroll to the bottom of the page for the Warp Tapes 89-93 link):
    https://autechre.bleepstores.com/

Flying Lotus and Brian Eno also did things.

And there's this BoC mix, which is really something
