Weight Loss and Fitness: Repent, for Swimsuit Season Is Nigh
Thanks for the suggestions. I was also throwing around the idea of getting a tap water filter but @Sheri mentioned that our water is so full of crap that it wears down the filter in no time at all
The pitchers work pretty well. It's a minor inconvenience to have to refill constantly, but they last longer compared to having water regularly flow through the tap
The pitcher is the type we had when we discovered that we went through a filter in like 3 days
I tried to run a longer route today but it ended up being a shortcut. Probably should have checked on a map first! Anyway it did take me past this place
I drink tap water, but I am very lucky that where I live it comes from the hills and tastes lovely. I always forget that it can taste nasty other places.
I miss the tap water back home. It came out of the mountains and tasted great. The water where I live now has so much chlorine I had to get a filter.

I uhh
I really like kombucha...
It's not super sugary if you get the right flavor, and it's not bad for you.
Basically I drink water, black coffee, or kombucha in terms of non alcoholic beverages. You could maybe try LaCroix flavored sparkling water? That's what they have at my office. It's alright. A little too sweet and carbonated for me but it could be right up your alley.

I've resolved to eat healthier, bought a nice rice cooker/steamer for easy prep of rice and other leaner carbs/veggies/etc, but I'm a little tripped up on beverages. Definitely been drinking lots more water, and it will be the majority, but there are times when it's just boring. I'm trying to quit soda, down to one a day, but sometimes I get so bored with plain water. Is gatorade actually healthy or is it all marketing bs? I also know there are powder/liquid additives and flavorings, but a lot of them seem really high in sugar, or taste horrible. Suggestions that you've enjoyed would be lovely.
I use crystal light to take my BCAA's, it's super delicious in a big glass of ice water.
I'm getting really frustrated by not working out, and trying to eat less (and healthier) so I'm not gaining weight while I'm not working out is pretty much making me crazy.
Not to shit on your progress (dropping a few lbs is definitely something to be proud of) but nearly all methods of measuring body fat are real inaccurate and will vary in readings from day to day.

"Nearly all" is kind of bullshit.
Hydrostatic weighing, air displacement plethysmyography, & DEXA are pretty much gold standard with minimal error rates.
Calipers in trained hands are around ~5% +/-
Bioelectrical impedance is kinda bunk. Estimating bf% through math based off BMI is ballpark.
certain factors can affect some measures such as a recent meal, hydration, etc.
Just depends on what you get done.

I mean, we've all heard that Katt Williams bit about how stretch marks usually signify one of two things; that you were once thin but got fat, or were once fat but got thin.
My stretch marks are at my like gut level and on my shoulders (from a growth spurt, presumably). Maybe on my butt, but I rarely look at my own. At a certain point, eh.*
*Reactions may vary.
in general I wouldn't recommend taking anything Katt Williams says as uh information

I should've said "nearly all easily available methods"
I'd like to give a quick shout out to my wife, who will never see this. She up and decided last year that she was tired of having baby weight and being unhappy with herself so she started calorie counting and lost 40 lbs. Then she decided that she wanted to run a 5K and with no prior history of running just ran 3.1 miles yesterday, pushing our two kids in a jogging stroller, about two months after she started running at all.
So in the least condescending gross way possible, I am so damn proud of my wife you guys. She's amazing.
I saw a family running around my park today, two parents and two little kids all jogging together and I thought it was a really good way of encouraging their kids to be healthy. Their kids overtook me in five seconds!
Well, I had TWO birthday dinners this weekend. On the down side, totally went over my calories. On the upside, meals that used to feel 'normal' but are actually absurd left me feeling baaaaaaaaad. So my body is adapting, and I have a new kind of normal diet wise.

Man, that is badass.
Exercise during & post-pregnancy with all the elevated hormone levels can result in some pretty awesome gains

I'm down 20 pounds! I've got another ten to go, and I think the weather has turned enough that I'll be able to add swimming to my exercise repertoire. Should be good!
I am proud of myself for dragging my ass to the gym despite being hungover and having insomnia on Saturday night
It sucks though
I need to get my insomnia under control and sleep as early as I can on weeknights when I'm not doing things also
I've been out of it since Friday and skipped that run and almost skipped yesterday but dragged myself out, and with the run going well I had two epiphanies:
First, I can count on one hand the number of times I went through my daily routing, thought to myself 'I feel kinda crappy, I don't want to work out' and then regretted it when I worked out anyway. I almost always feel better afterwards if I wasn't so sick I stayed home from work anyway.
Second, I was worried about the run and it went well. So I figured to get me over the hump where I've abandoned C25K before, I'll just do four cycles of each level instead of 3 for the next couple weeks until I get past the mental block (I start dreading the longer runs coming especially at the end of week 5). That gives me a third more reps AND a weekend recovery period so hopefully I'll be much more confident.
One other thing is that you might just be pushing yourself too hard in the run periods. If your heartrate is extremely elevated and you're tiring too fast to get through them, just try dropping back to a slow jog. Or replace the walking periods with slow jogging before you ramp up into a longer run.
That might sound terribly obvious, but you want to find a level where you can keep your heartrate high enough to do you some good without, you know, killing yourself. There shouldn't be that significant a discrepancy between the medium-length run intervals and the longer ones.
Let's try this again. Last time I went from 327-292 and then went way up to 346. I choose to look at it as gaining 19lbs instead of 54. Gotta be optimistic!

I'm just throwing it out there as a delicious and healthier alternative to soda!

But I don't really drink it so its a non-issue
This time last week I was 205lb.
Today I am 202lb.
BUT.
Last week I had 26.4% body fat (54lb).
This week I have 22.3% body fat (45lb).
UM
I THINK THIS WORKING OUT IS WORKING OUT

I wish I still could get people to play tag with me
Maybe one of my favorite things about working childcare and teaching elementary was getting to play things like tag and hide and seek with the kids.
But If what gets eaten is something dumb like a bunch of oreos/cookies/etc I feel a little sick afterward.
Man, that is badass.

I missed all these guys.
To that end, I started a feature last week where I make a weekly post logging my day-by-day efforts to get fit for my move over to Australia.
It's really making me think about what I can do to vary up my routine. So far, so good!
Week 0 (basically an introduction, where I talk about what happened after losing 70 lb three years ago)
Week 1
Week 2
During my writing of week 0, I edited together a couple of photos... and it makes for a pretty stark comparison!
First, I can count on one hand the number of times I went through my daily routing, thought to myself 'I feel kinda crappy, I don't want to work out' and then regretted it when I worked out anyway. I almost always feel better afterwards if I wasn't so sick I stayed home from work anyway.

Gets easier. Honestly there's times where I kinda forget to eat anything for a while.
I have the problem where even after I eat I feel empty inside so I'm prone to binge.
