The similarities between Purdy and my crazy ex are uncanny. Malachi DO NOT say you love her. She has a gun, and is the only one who would know how to bandage you up. She will let you die..

    Also, good cat.

    That is one psycho bitch...

Why do I get the feeling there's going to be a war between the campers and Purdy's crazy tree folk?

Eeeergh. If you're hunting, you don't aim for the head, unless you're a sadistic psycho!

UH-OH...that's all folks. I think this one's looney toons.

@EKSORTSO What I know about hunting couldn't fill a thimble, it's not my thing. But why wouldn't you shoot for the head exactly? I ask because that'd be my first instinct. Try to put it out as quickly and painless as possible. Why am I wrong about that? (absolutely no sarcasm or snark, genuine question)

I looked at that cat like 5 times before I realized it was the cat.

@EKSORTSO @KPGOODNIGHT A head shot wouldn't be sadistic, as it would be a quick, theoretically painless kill. However, it is typically an impractical shot, as headshots are much harder to accomplish than movies and games would have you think. Ideally, you aim for the chest, the heart and lungs, as it is still a quick kill, but while being a much easier shot to make. However, when hunting small game, such as rabbits, squirrels, and *barf* weasels, a headshot would be almost necessary, as there is too little meat to waste it with a body shot.

@KPGOODNIGHT I'm not a hunter, but I come from a hunter clan. I believe head shots aren't actually very reliable as a humane "one shot" way to kill. Small mammal heads are not that big, and their brains (the thing you want to hit for a killing shot) don't take up the whole skull. If your aim is off half an inch, there's a good chance you'll just horrifically wound it, not kill it.

To be fair, Purdy's what, ten maybe? She is an expert only in relation to complete amateurs. ;)

@OHONI think of the thing you are the best at. Something you're very good at doing. I guarantee there is a 10 year old somewhere better than you at it. ;)

Also 'expert' and 'amateur' are not mutually exclusive. There are many experts that are amateurs.

    Maybe she is just possessed.

Purdy's Gun implicitly says creepy things about the world. Where does she get all her ammo? Maybe there was a ton of it out there somewhere and only she knows where, or maybe she knows how to get out of the wilderness but chooses to stay there...

Or maybe she just hasn't been there very long yet. : P

@1NEUMAN Aww. I like Katie's writing (and Adam's writing, too). And I know that Purdy's word balloon is there to draw attention to her and Malachi. It's all good. In fact, since Purdy is a little NUTS! her offhand comment colors in her personality well.
