I'll have to agree with Morninglord if you consider the following:
You require Vendrick's soul to get these items, which you can only get once per game, and it's something you get late into the game. You have to go through at least the entirety of Castle Drangleic, Shrine of Amana and the Undead Crypt. Usually you probably spend a lot more time since not everyone skips the 4 old ones.
So when you finally get that soul and spend it on something you worked 10-20 hours on obtaining, you can take a few extra seconds to make sure you're crafting the right item.
I should know, the only reason I went into NG+ on PS3 is to get a full "King Vendrick" outfit.
The full King Vendrick outfit is a loincloth and a crown.
Go shake that moneymaker!

I can see why they wouldn't have put it in though.
Based on the co-directors interview posted before, they expect players to take responsibility for their decisions and actions, their choices of how to make their character.
If they're got that attitude you can easily see why they would assume that anyone making a boss soul weapon would take the extra time necessary to check their gear.
It's an attitude at odds with western centric accessibility based design.
Again this is not a defense, by western game standards it is a fault.
I'm just saying, I can see why they wouldn't have thought about it.
Morninglord on
(PSN: Morninglord) (Steam: Morninglord) (WiiU: Morninglord22) I like to record and toss up a lot of random gaming videos here.
Well, the Vendrick soul items are almost uniformly outclassed in every way, so it's not like I was locking myself out of something useful. I can't keep track of every one of the literally several hundred items in my item box, even if they are boss weapons.
Well, took care of Vendrick and all kinds of other last minute stuff. Apparently I missed an entire assassination questline.
I started NG+ and got to Majula, but I think I'm a little burned out. Hopefully the DLC will be accessible early - I thought about leaving myself at the end game to just wait for the DLC, but then I was like, "No! I am still hungry for souls! New Game plus!" and then I got to Majula and said to myself "I am not nearly as hungry as I thought!"
In other, unrelated stream-of-consciousness news, I think I have a crush on the Emerald Herald. Is that weird? That's probably weird.

King's shield is the best medium shield in the game....there is no medium shield better than this shield. It is the best shield in the game for weight as well.
King's UGS has S strength scaling at +5.
You wouldn't have several hundred shields. Items are sorted by tab. You don't pick up all that many.
If I did what you had just done I would have been pissed at myself and vowing not to do it again. I would be doubly careful next time I was in that situation.
It's because I have done things like this in my life that I am bugging you about this. I don't do it anymore. I've built up double checking habits, that don't take much time, that save me much more time in the long run.

King's Shield is totally the best shield for the 1/9th of the playthrough you have it. Then you get to NG and there's no functional difference between the top medium shields and you can wear whatever the fuck you like.
Meanwhile, the Old Knight's shield...

I see what you mean. I didn't know about DS.
KS still has better fire resist and better defenses to weight ratio.

just got invaded by a guy who took a full two handed lightning heide greatlance max upgrade to the back and it barely did 10% of his hp (~1200 damage), then he turned and 1 shotted me with his bastard sword

Hmm... no, Gower's would've completely negated the backstab, not shown 1200 damage. Most likely hacking.
@Morninglord The Drakekeeper's Shield does weigh 1 more unit and has about 13 less Fire resist, however it has better overall resistances, the same stability when fully upgraded, uses normal Titanite instead of Petrified Dragon Bone for upgrades and if you Dark infuse it, it even brings its Dark resist up about in line with the rest of its resists while still having 98.something% physical block. It's a really really good all-around shield.

I just checked and yeah there's definitely somethings there.

Yeah I saw all that when I checked out the shield. I just didn't know about it.
Now my character that moved onto NG+ with the King's Shield suddenly knows he is lacking in the medium shield department. :P

AHA!
I was so curious about why that chest had a unique texture. Finally it makes sense.
FromSoftware and Bandai Namco Games are proud to announce the Lost Crowns DLC Trilogy for Dark Souls II!
Three harrowing chapters of Dark Souls II DLC are on the way for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC players:
The Crown of the Sunken King - July 22, 2014
The Crown of the Old Iron King - August 26, 2014
The Crown of the Ivory King - September 24, 2014
The Crown of the Sunken King sends players on a quest to reclaim the Crown that King Vendrick once owned. With an entirely new areas to explore within the Dark Souls II universe, players will find pyramids, underground caverns, and unknown foes. It is said that the Ancient Crown is buried deep below the surface, but surely it cannot sit unguarded?
Heide and Olaphis?
I will be very dissapointed if the crowns you can get (presumably) from the end bosses of these DLC's didnt stack on top of each other on your head like a big cake.

I honestly think the King's Greatsword(Not the Ultra statue) hasn't been explored nearly enough yet. One of these day's I'm going to put it through the infusing/build ringer.

Is the best cat.
Such a cute little cuddly wuddly kitty just wanna pick her up and carry her around with me and nuzzle her belly and be all WHOOSAGOODLITTLESHALQUOIR
I'd be covered in scratches and not care at all.
Drakekeeper's Shield.
Also, Emerald Herald is pretty annoying and doesn't hold a candle to Maiden in Black.

It IS broken down by type of item. Looking for something in one category shouldn't be that tough...
Also, it sounds like the item in Majula is random? I just got into bed but I want to go try it!
I suppose I should just suck it up and check for myself.
You're fine Just go get the item.

I think Dark Souls, or Demon Souls, originally went by Beast Souls while it was in development.
Basically, it's their standard project name.

It literally looks like a piece of shit.

You may want to consider consulting a physician.
Nono, he's right, it looks TERRIBLE.
Obviously, to balance out how good a pure Strike damage Greatsword with S Scaling would be.
That sword though probably should have went back into the design oven. It took me far too long to figure out just exactly what I was looking at.
