First time I played trough blind, I attacked Vendrick right after getting the kings ring. He did not have reduced defences and murdered me after 1 minute.

II. I'm definitely appreciating this difficulty.

Playing around in the forest of fallen giants. Made it to the top of one of the towers and some giant ass bird dropped off a big ole' baddie with a huge sword and shield. He wrecked me proper.

If you are really green with the game, checking a few hours of VaatiVidya or EpicNameBro videos could give you some direction. But we can also answer your questions here.

Managed to find a second short sword and figured out what powerstance is all about. Took that back to the first area and spent some time trying to kill the hippoclops. Got a stone ring for my troubles! Man, it felt good when I finally managed to kill that thing.

This game. I might be in love.

You're doing it right my friend, keep it up.

If I may, I'd recommend you beat the game blind, then come back for a second time and go crazy with the wikis.

The game actually isn't as hard as people like to make it out to be.

  • mosssnackmosssnack Yeah right, man, Bishop should go! Good idea!Registered User regular
Yeah, I've really only looked up the combat mechanics to make sure there wasn't something I overlooked in the tutorial. Plan is to go blind from here.

What makes this game challenging for me is my lack of patience in combat. I'm learning quickly, though!

The shortswords are great for dual wielding due to the lower stamina consumption. Lenigrast also sells the Falchions and Scimitars if you wanna go for DEX route.

    Fooling around with Chameleon #2:

See a torch coming at you with Homing Soul Mass hovering over it?

Sure, dodge it, but watch out for the Soul Greatsword that's following close behind. Or the Soul Spear.

Or me running at you with a longsword. Or a Sunlight Spear!

Who knows? Because I've just realised that you have no idea what's in either of my hands, I didn't have to do a NBND run to achieve that.* =P

Edit: * Admittedly requires a quick battle, otherwise I'm up the creek as far as surprises go.

Late Edit2: And there we go. Rank 2 BellBro for the sorcery reward.

One step closer to getting the all sorceries achievement!

You can find Hush out in the wilds somewhere as loot

Bellbros is, I believe, the only covenant you need to get to rank 3 for achievements. Not sure if you can get great lightning spear outside of sunbros so that might be the other one.

There are some really weird loot tables in this game. I'm still scratching my head as to how kobolds outside Aldia's Keep and spiders in Brightstone Cave Tseldora are able to drop spells and greatswords and shit. The greatswords are literally larger than the enemy dropping them.

    What?

Sunlight spear is a miracle :/

Afaik that is literally the only thing you have to use covenants for. Everything else related to achievements can be earned outside.

Why would you need to reach rank 3 in the Bell Bros?

I know. Either I misread the post or it was bullshit because none of the wikis list a source other than Sunbros III as a source.

I think Falconers maybe drop sunlight medals?

According to the official strategy guide you need rank 2 bellbros for hidden weapon, rank 3 heirs of the covenant for sunlight spear, and rank 3 pilgrims of the dark for climax. Everything else can be purchased or found outside of covenants although not until NG+++ for 3 of them.

They drop medals, yeah. Not the miracle.

People mentioned those, and the hex casting giant dudes, in Sunbro guides or whatever because they can drop the medals.

Anyone around to help with Ornstein and Fatty? They're putting me through the ringer. I'm SL 54 or so.

Barring that, any tips? I can get through Fatty pretty easily with Solaire's help, but can't seem to survive super Ornstein when Solaire dies to him immediately.

So stupid question: Is Humanity still a thing. I've only just killed the first boss, but so far there seem to only be two states: Hollow and human. Is the old "collect humanity to boost drop rate" thing gone? Or am I just missing something?

Unless you're dead set on Ornstein's armor, kill them the other way around. Super Smaugh is much easier than Super Ornstein.

I could try and login and sunbro with you, but I have no idea how the matchmaking works in DS1 and I've heard people say it's tough to find your friends symbols at times.

Are you playing the GoD version or a disc? There is a bug in the GoD version so the two groups cannot play with each other at the moment.

That is gone. There is no humanity counter, and drop rates are only increased through specific armors and the gold serpent ring.

died twice to bed of chaos

    not too bad

i actually don't mind Bed of Chaos all that much

i think a lot of really good dark souls players get there, die cheap deaths and are just like "it's not even hard!"

whereas a bad dark souls player like me is just like "well, at least it's not hard. i only died twice!"

Spent more time than I'd like to admit getting smashed by the Pursuer. I suppose I could have used a Human Effigy and grinded it out the hard way, but I'm stubborn and the swings from my +3 falchion were only doing about 90. I wanted to figure out how to sneak in a shot from the giant ass crossbows. I mean, they weren't just there to tease me, right?!

Eventually I remembered that I can parry. Spent a bit of time getting the timing right and then it was all gravy. Gimme dem souls.

You know how Ornstein is faster? Work with that. Let them chase you. Use the pillars to separate them from each other, and from you. When you need to heal, go run away to behind pillar as far as you can manage.

I, for one, enjoyed the Mako.
