I feel sort of spoiled, not even knowing of the existence of this series until a year ago almost to the day. Now we've got all kinds of side games coming along with a brand new main numbered installment around 2 years after I started.
It's like discovering George RR Martin just as he's wrapping up the last book or something.

The game is not dead, it was on a "games coming soon to Wii U" list Nintendo published at their recent shareholder meeting. It's probably just too early to show off anything yet.
I understand why people want a new cast and all. I think the reason people are rabidly buying all these side games though is that these characters are so well-written that they resonated well with the fanbase and we actually care what happens to them.
Definitely make new things and do other things with Persona, but let's not begrudge people their desire to keep seeing more of these people.
I just have to laugh at this... not because they aren't well written, but because the games based on the originals don't bother to do anything with them. There's no further characterization, and any new material just becomes an endless series of "Remember this? Here it is again! References!"
This is why Chie's become the steak-monster she is today, Akihiko's an adrenaline-crazed protein addict, Yosuke will invariably wear a trashcan (despite it only being in a single scene for about a minute in the first hour of P4), Kanji will stammer and blush at any sign of male or female sexuality, and so on. The fans have latched on to their favorite details of the characters, and the writers have just run with them until they've become all-encompassing character traits instead of details. It's time to let them go.
Persona Q actually does have further characterization, mostly through the characters from the two games interacting with each other.
Margaret shows a softer side when with Elizabeth, Kanji talking to Amada about being true to yourself, etc.
That being said, the majority of it is just having the established characters doing wacky shit together, but I feel that having them doing it together makes it fresh enough.
You know, to just keep on fusing is generally effective in these games, but P4G's shuffle-system can make a consistent persona really freaking buff in a fairly short time. It may actually be more effective while you don't have access to strong enough enemies to raise your fusion-level.
Goddammit Atlus. I don't like fighting games. I'm fucking awful at fighting games. I don't want to buy fighting games. Then you go an put an inflatable Teddie punching bag in your P4AU special edition...DAMN YOU.

My third run-through I stuck with Izanagi the entire game and he wrecked an unbelievable amount of face by the end.

Wait what? Can you explain this to me? Did you just continue to level up Izanagi and give him additional skills through cards?
At a certain point stats get maxed through card usage (luck/str/etc has been increased!) so you need to pay attention and not increase something already at max.
Other than that, get skill cards when possible.
It's kind of a fun runthrough because you prioritize different things at shuffle time, and Izanagi becomes a god (get it?) by the fourth dungeon or so.
You also choose different abilities for your team to cover your own weaknesses and holes in the powers you'd normally make up for by switching personas.
I remember seeing a good Demifiend cosplay at one point. I wonder why that character doesn't get done more often. Just get some black bike shorts and a magic marker...

Disclaimer: I don't cosplay myself, so this is speculation
1) For some people a lot of the challenge is in getting the costumes just right, so going as a cosplay that's just bicycle shorts takes some of the fun out of it.
2) You probably don't get to have as much fun messing around 'in character' or whatever with the Demifiend vs the Persona gang. Dude gets almost no lines.
3) With almost no costume to speak of, you have nothing to rely on but your own abs to convey how hardcore the Demifiend is. Also it is probably chilly.
Its for Arena okay, for a second there I thought there was some kind of P4 Golden DLC that I had missed the boat on. Guess I'll trade in my copy of old Arena for New Arena then if they're just going to keep adding stuff.

Also, the story mode from the original arena is going to be DLC for the new one. You know, if you ever get the urge to repeat the same story over and over again with a different character being the hero every time.

I did find it interesting that for most of it they were running separate, concurrent narratives that would eventually converge into the same thing though (like Yu's phone call with Yosuke and his banter with Chie)

Yeah, it's like a bunch of side stuff happens to the same characters no matter what (Akihiko and Chie meeting in the hallway before he jumps out the window) but the overall main story arc changes to accommodate the character you selected.
I wish they'd just run completely separate, interweaving stories that make sense when it's all put together.

That said since we're returning to high school again, I'm seriously doubting its going to be based on the P4 cast.

DOA.
Yeah, right.
Boo.
Alright, I'll go back to my cave of handheld hate. Someone call me if something I can play on my TV is going to come out any time soon.
I want to believe, but it is a very bad sign that Nintendo didn't even mention it when they're actively trying to push the Wii U now.

P4U's writing was mostly rubbish though.

Nobody can pull off Igor, apparently.
Also here is a Jack Frost cosplay, because why the hell not?

So, uh...here. Koromaru cosplay.

I concede that. My only defense is that I would've picked it if I'd seen it.

Blazblue finally got a decent story mode in Chronophantasma though so maybe they'll follow in that vein.
