Total playtime 48 hours. Like P4G, battles start off a bit tougher than other games but the difficulty starts to landslide after the halfway point once you start getting decent skills and skill cards.
As in the final boss didn't even scratch me and the fight took like five minutes.
(I don't think I was overlevelled- Only about 70)
Personal game-breaking combo was Chie with setsunasamidaregeki and charge, with buffs. The final boss fight basically consisted of
Boss attacks: Miss miss 50 miss 30
Chie attacks: 600 1200 1200 600 600 600 1200 600
The final boss does have what looks like a pretty troublesome gimmick, but I killed him too fast for it to matter.
The writing was pretty decent, and the interaction between the P3 and P4 characters was basically what I wanted in P4U but didn't get. Plus there's actual character development.
The character development feels really weird, though, because by the end it's suggested that Amada has forgiven Aragaki, which is of course completely out of place. Sure, they forget all the events of this game, but still.
I went with the P4 route first though, so maybe the P3 ending handles this better.
But anyway yeah, it's pretty good. And while the fights are easy, some of the dungeon gimmicks get almost up to Strange Journey levels of annoying.
Nothing as bad as SJ's invisible wall conveyer belt mazes though.
Edit: Oh right, I made a transcript of the version of the opening on the CD that came with the game. Bits in brackets are parts I couldn't make out.
MAZE OF LIFE -Special Mix-
川村ゆみ・平田志穂子
PERSONA Q SOUND OF THE LABYRINTH
Ain't it great, how we met each other
On this wild and tragic carousel ride
Ain't it cool, how it changed the path of our lives
Set us off on a new adventure
This carousel takes us round and round
This labyrinth of life
You can't tell up from down
Having so much fun,
We forgot to check where this crossroad's takin' us
But hey, here we come
This carousel
Spins us round so much
Sometimes you don't know, should you stay on or get off?
It's only just begun
Welcome to this wild maze of life
Ain't it fun, how this life is (???)
As the chance to be a hero (???) came
It's our choice, let us try to make them better
While a maze have laid in our dreams
This carousel spins us (sidewise)
This labyrinth of life
You can't tell wrong from right
Having so much fun
We didn't see the cliff
Past the help we found in our road
But hey, here we come
This carousel spins so high and high
The force of gravity, your real (???) alibi
But in your heart
Welcome to this wild maze of life
Think you've got us (???) (???)
Think you've got a (webs oh-ho?)
It's all worse now but (???)
Spinning round and round/can't tell up from down)
Spinning inside your mind/can't tell wrong from right)
Up in a (double?) (air?) (it?)
Go enjoy the fun
This carousel
Takes us round and round
This strange maze of life
You can't tell up from down
Havin' so much fun
We forgot to ask where this magic's takin'us
But hey, here we come
This carousel
Spins you round and round
You really don't know why
But it makes you want to shout
We've only just begun
Let's enjoy this wild maze of life
They said there were 20 playable characters, right? But unless I'm miscounting, there are only actually 17 I can think of. The new dudes who act as one, the P3 group (MC, Yukari, Junpei, Akihiko, Mitsuru, Aigis, Koromaru, Shinjiro, Ken) as 2-10 and the P4 crowd (MC, Yosuke, Chie, Yukiko, Kanji, Teddie, Naoto) as 11-17. Is that it or are there others? Elizabeth/Margaret/Theo maybe?
Oh, I should want to hear if anything particular happens after clearing both paths. And if anything carries from path to path.
The message the game just flashed me said the persona encyclopedia, stats of all characters, money, items, and maps. Don't think you actually get the sub personae you had before back, but the main ones remain the same complete with abilities from skill cards.
I always like to imagine somebody coming across a Persona conversation and reading stuff about summoning Lucifer and Beelzebub and Satan and not realizing the context it's in.

This is what originally attracted me to the series.
What can fans of the games look forward to in this book that they might not be expecting?
The big thing, as I alluded to above, is that this is the author going back to her own original idea and writing it out as a series of novels on her own terms. It’s not a novelization of the games themselves, and towards the end of the first volume major parts of the narrative start to differ from the games, so hopefully there are a few curve balls that will catch fans of the games off-guard in a good way. Also, while Digital Devil Saga was already one of the more graphic and violent entries in the MegaTen lineup, the novels take the violence several steps further. This isn’t done in a gratuitous way though, and violence is deployed in a manner that serves the tone of the narrative and the story; the characters are attracted to or repulsed by the inherently violent nature of their new lives, and struggle with the degree to which they will allow it to define them.

What are your favorite parts of Avatar Tuner, and what made you want to translate the novel?
There were two main draws for me when it came to translating Avatar Tuner. The first was that it fell right at the intersection of my main areas of professional experience: video games, fiction writing, and translation. Right from the outset, it seemed like such a natural fit for my skills, and that made it really exciting and compelling. The other big thing for me was just how bizarre and unusual the story and the setting were. All told, it struck me as something that would be both fun and challenging, and I’m really glad I got the chance to tackle it.
As for favorite parts, there were a number of things I really enjoyed about the book and about working on it. Doing the dialogue for the different characters was a lot of fun. Yu Godai wrote some very distinct and well-realized characters, and figuring out how to best present them in English in terms of speech and mannerisms was tricky but rewarding; Gale’s voice, in particular, always came very naturally to me, whereas I reworked Cielo’s speech style a few times before I landed on something that I thought fit the character and was happy with.
I've been wanting to play P3P again for some time, but with P4G and then the movie and Q I can't quite shake the feeling that they might release a Vita remake soon. Zero basis, just a feeling, but still.

I'm kinda bummed that the P3P tracks were generally only listenable through the FemMC's playthroughs and I didn't find out until I was balls-deep (heh) in the male version playthrough

Eh... I hope not.
I'm a huge fan of P3P. I will defend it as the definitive and best version until the cows come home. The last thing P3 needs is another port, especially on a system that can already flawlessly play the best version of the game.
What they should do is release The Answer as a standalone Vita product, maybe. Just to offer completeness.
But a full on Vita port is unnecessary. They'd probably be tempted to bring back the useless walking around town crap. Moving to a menu/icon system was one of the biggest improvements.
@Weisskaiser could you talk a bit about party composition in Persona Q? Having so many playable characters is great, but it's almost a bit too much. Is it better to focus on a handful on characters throughout the whole game or are you rewarded for using all of them?

A couple of sidequests require you to bring specific people with you, and the game obviously wants you to use Zen and Rei by giving you good equipment for them as rewards for sidequests and such. But with how ridiculously expensive equipment and personae are (carrying all the loot you can in a one hour trip to a dungeon gives you maybe 40000 at the end of the game, while a single piece of highest rank armour will be 50000-60000, and personae around your level at that point being around 30000 with no skills and 60000 if actually useful, and skill card extraction costing up to 80000) it's better to just focus on a few.
My party was the two main characters, Chie, Yukiko and Yukari throughout the whole game. Never switched them out except for sidequests.
Do use Zen though because it's kind of silly at the end of the game when he shows off and then the fights start and he fucks off while you punch everything in the face for him.

Good to know. FE:A was excellent, so I truly hope it works out.
I plan on trying to convert my PS2 save to a PS2 Classics save, maybe tomorrow.
Will let you know if I succeed and if the import thus works.

Still not "playable" though, and counting Zen and Rei separately is just stupid.
(I'm not even doing anything particularly odd, mind you, just using lots of buffs/debuffs.)
3DS: 1607-3034-6970
Judging from the stuff in the credits you get different tracks on each route too. Haven't started on my P3 protagonist playthrough yet.
Concentrate, megidoraon, shadowrun, setsunasamidaregeki, samarikaam, morning star

Yeah, it's the usual yells and grunts while the other guy becomes a full-fledged character.
Edit: Yep, even the regular battle BGM is totally different depending on which main character you choose.
Ah, that sucks. I wonder why they did that.

Digital Devil Saga? That sounds so awesome!
On the other hand, the reverse can be awful. Maya should never be silent!

Do the characters who aren't currently in your party level up as well?
I was at level 73 at the end of the game; Equipping a high grow on Aegis left her at 65 for my new game, while everyone else was 37.
