I'm of mixed feelings on Marth and Lucina having the same move-set.
When I played Melee I played it real casual like. I sort of rejected "Final Destination", "Fox Only", etc etc. with my friends. It was the same with Brawl even.
To me Marth was on the same level as Fox. He was sort of this "competitive" poster-boy who could shut down many characters by virtue of being top-tier. I sort of reviled him growing up because he was good and popular. Who wants a character like that, right!?
There's a part of me that still irrationally dislikes him for that reason. He's that stupid counter-spamming jerk with the great smash attacks, speed, power and range. He's evil!
On the other hand I've never really played him. His moveset will be fresh and I love Lucina so it's a great character to jump in and become the enemy? The hated one? The counter spamming jerkface!? Oh no!
Ach! If only Lucina had different moves I could distance myself from my irrational hatred of Marth!
She does!
I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.
Watching the trailer, a few of her moves look slightly different than what I remember from Marth, so I don't think she's quite as "identical" as Sakurai indicated.
Even if she's not much more than a Marth costume-swap, it's nice to see her in. She feels a bit like a low-effort bonus character thrown in to please the fans.

I'm pretty sure that's the entire point on smash bros as a whole

That's right, it's all about the fan service.

Yea, I'm also thinking that she may have been a late addition specifically because she was asked for so much by fans.
I'm not complaining. I have never liked Marth, but I do love Lucina's character and really wanted her in the game.
I just think it's neat that we're getting so many female characters, female clones, and gender-swappable characters, at least one of which where the female version is the default. (I will admit that I'm actually slightly disappointed that the female Robin wasn't the default here, as I like her look and voice acting better, and I like it when games send the message that girls can be the default/"canonical" version of the hero and boys can be the alternate version.) And none of these new characters are particularly sexualized*.
Nintendo has never exactly been known for its progressive gender politics, so I appreciate that in this entry of the Smash Bros. series they're offering so many characters like Lucina, who allows players to play what is essentially a female version of a fan-favorite (Marth) while keeping her distinct enough as a character that she's not just "fem-Marth."
*excepting ZSS, who isn't a new character but has an overly sexualized new look
I wonder if Robin will have some of the customization options that he/she did in the 3DS game (different hairstyles, hair colors, voices, etc). Probably not so much on the voices, but they could do the alt-hair styles/colors for alt colors.
It's gotta suck to have a magical birthmark in your eye. I mean, you just know that's gonna have an effect on her vision.
So, Lucina is shorter, has no diminishing points or sweet spots on her sword, and seems to be a bit faster? Eh. I guess that works. I'll probably play as her over Marth just for personal preference for the character.
I thought it was pretty clear that Lucina's Final Smash was a team-up attack with Chrom. Marth's is still Critical Hit, since it was in the demo.
Robin has the final smash with Chrom. Lucina they haven't technically shown, but I'm assuming hers will be the same as Marth's since she is just a retooled Marth.
While I find it weird that Lucina doesn't have the team up final smash, story wise it still makes sense that Robin has the attack with him. It would have worked either way.
I had three characters I've been hoping for in Smash 4.
1) Isaac or Matthew from Golden Sun (by far)
2) Lucina
3) Sami or Andy from from Advance Wars
I'm quite excited for Lucina, even if she's barely more than a Marth costume. That's one of my wanted characters in, and I'm glad she was chosen over Chrom. Chrom's role as a final smash is great too. Wii Fit Trainer is a character I didn't know I wanted, and Rosalina and Robin both appear to have some fun movesets too. I always thought Robin would be fun to play but didn't expect 'em at all.
Lucina is so awesome.
If Golden Sun and Advance Wars both got promoted from Assist Trophy status like Punch-Out, I'd have my dream roster. Assist trophies are "characters who couldn’t quite make it as playable fighters", so I'd be surprised if Little Mac is the only one who made the jump from Brawl.
Prior to the game's announcement, I had 4 characters I wanted to see playable: Mega Man, Wonder Red, Shulk and Lucina. So far, two are in, one is out and one is still possible.
If Shulk makes it in, I'd be absolutely ecstatic about the roster.
Part of me kind of believes that Lucina was a late addition to the roster when Sakurai noticed that everyone on the internet was clamoring for her.
"Hey, how many hours would it take to make a Lucina model and give her Marth's moves?"
(Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining one bit)
Chrom being Robin's final smash and not Lucina's strongly supports the idea that she was a late addition, if you ask me. I'm also pretty sure I read in some interview once that all the clones in Melee existed because they wanted to squeeze in a little bit extra at the end of development.

Hm. If Robin really was a late addition that might explain why the leaker didn't mention her. Assuming his information is old. And in any way accurate.
Hah, wouldn't it be so very Sakurai to gin up a character really quick just to disprove a leak? :P

You mean Lucina, right? Robin's not the Marth clone, she's the Tactician.

....shit. Well, there's only one way to correct that mistake.
I have to say I'm honestly going to miss the development of this game. The constant updates, the video reveals, the shocks/surprises and of course the Sakurai trolling. No other game has a development cycle quite like a Smash game. Every morning (M-F) has the potential to be like Christmas it has just been a fun experience*.
Hopefully Lucina doesn't have Roy's Disease. i suppose as long as her sword is decently powerful the whole way through and with her seemingly increased speed over marth, the lack of tippers should still be alright.
would be really disappointing if she's baddo since i'm probably going to end up playing her a ton.
The solution is to buy a wii u. The day smash is out is the day you can really say it's worth buying. You pick up smash, some older games that aren't system sellers in their own right but definitely worth playing, and then look forward to the rest of what Nintendo is putting out.

I'm not. I mean, it's great that she's in, she's a perfectly fine character... but Chrom was far and away my favorite. Plus this means no amiibo figure either, it's a double punch to the gut ;_;
I do have to give props to Sakurai though - for all the people expecting the reveal to be Chrom, that video was a masterful troll. I tip my hat, good sir!

I'm thinking that even if her damage is the same no matter where you hit with her sword it won't match up to Marth's tip, given her being shorter/faster I feel like she may be Marth training wheels that you can practice with before you move onto Marth.

This is my thinking as well, which works even better if you consider that awakening fans picking up smash for her would be newer to the game
The Gamexplain guys are pegging Wind spells as Robin's recovery move; blasting the enemy and recoiling upwards.
Taking that into account, do you think the trailer suggests how that move will work? The trailer shows Robin attacking Falcon with wind blasts, and is then seen hovering with some kind of wind aura. Do you think Robin's Wind spell recovery will also bestow a slow-fall effect like Peach's and Game-And-Watch's?

Mario 3D World is worth buying a WiiU for, IMO. It's kinda hard to tell how awesome it is without playing it, though, especially if you didn't like 3D Land(like me)
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.

Mine had brown-ish hair but otherwise I didn't mess with the settings much, not that they were that extensive to begin with.
