I got a job at Family Video and got to pick out the MOVIE QUOTE OF THE WEEK for this week
I chose "You were once ve-gone. Now you will begone."

I've spent three days this week trying to teach a student of mine who always leads with, "I've got something to say," to follow it up with, "it's better to burn out than fade away."
So far he has no appreciation for Highlander
"Sandra has a good solid anti-murderer vibe. My skin felt very secure and sufficiently attached to my body when I met her. Also my organs." HAIL SATAN

I start a lot of sentences with 'Here's the thing'
and since I noticed it I will almost always launch into a spoken word rendition of Since U Been Gone instead of actually talk

Wasn't that a Def Leppard line that the Kurgan was quoting?
“I was quick when I came in here, I’m twice as quick now”
-Indiana Solo, runner of blades

The first movie killed any logical jumping off points for sequels
But with the right cast, the right marketing and the right writers who know how to slowly build a universe, I could see that becoming a very cool franchise
Reminder that the movie with the gun-wielding raccoon and talking Vin Diesel tree is coming out in less than three months and seems like it will be a pretty sizable hit
Anything is possible with good writers and good marketing

Highlander 1
There Can Be Only One!
Highlander 2
Except for these dudes from another planet. Did we mention that's where all immortals come from now?
Highlander 3
Oh yeah there was also a guy who got trapped in a cave for 400 years.
And then everyone from the TV show.
“I was quick when I came in here, I’m twice as quick now”
-Indiana Solo, runner of blades
As dumb as all those are, I think my most-hated Highlander thing was the villain from Endgame
He killed pretty much everyone on holy ground! And there were no consequences. I don't know, they make such a point of that in the first film, that even the goddamned Kurgan won't fight on holy ground, that I expected there to be some serious shit that happened if that rule was broken

Especially since 3 showed what happened when that happened (Kane tried to attack Conner at the Kendo dojo/Buddha shrine, Conner blocked and both swords shattered into confetti).

oh my god now I am extra sad I didn't get that job
I had to give people copies from the drop box 5 times because there were none left on the wall

My manager who loves the movie agreed with my decision
I was following up the quote but thanks for assuming I'm a dumb baby idiot

people love me, lemme tell you
I AM THE DUMB BABY IDIOT

Neil Young
But he precedes it with the "I've got something to say"
Which is definitely from Rock of Ages
There was one lined up for a while with Ryan Reynolds, it is currently in development hell
But yes
Even after all the horrible shit that's been tied to it, Highlander is a franchise I love and still feel has a lot of potential to it
Nah you can reboot anything these days.
Plus every single Highlander movie was a reboot/rule change.
-Indiana Solo, runner of blades
Especially if they plan it out as a franchise and don't blow the majority of the story on the first movie

They don't establish that until Highlander 2
There is no mention of the immortals being aliens in Highlander 1
And it is better that way because aliens are stupid
Nah
The intro just says they've been here since the dawn of time
And when Connor asks Ramirez about why they are the way they are, he replies with the whole "Why does the sun come up? Who knows?"
Highlander 2 spoilers
-Indiana Solo, runner of blades
This might actually be my favorite bit of exposition in the movie
Just "I dunno. Why the fuck is anything the way it is? (turns towards camera) Look, do you want to watch sword fights, or not?"
Rutger Hauer was the main character of blade runner anyway
I hear his carpentry skills were good.
Yeah it was good, definitely worth a view
