Can anyone talk about the level of difficulty in Neptunia? I'm kind of interested, since the combat looks fun and it looks like a pretty silly game, but if it gets brutally difficult, I'll avoid it.

It's not afraid of Dragon Warrioring a stupid encounter at you in a dungeon full of junk, but they're pretty clearly marked on the map and they're the only encounters that don't chase you, so you kind of have to do it to yourself.
However, they do tend to give so much exp that they're insane for level grinding.
I just went to Gamestop to preorder Danganronpa 2, and the guy was super confused. "Could you spell that?"
Heck I had that problem the other day. Except I was the dummy. I heard about the sale and looked on the Vita store for "Dragonronpa" for a good five minutes. I can spell!
It's so weird to be playing a game on the SONY Playstation Vita in which SEGA is the hero and SONY is one of the baddies (at least so far). Oh and also the Xbox has huge boobies.

You beat up PS4s! They're monsters! One of the primary series villains is named after DS flashcarts! It's all great and the entire series is super self-aware and pokes fun at everything in this fashion.

Yeah, I realize that, but it's particularly weird when you frame all that within playing it on a Vita.

I actually walked over to their tiny Vita display and grabbed the first game off the shelf and handed it to him. Vita is so underloved.
Recently, I beat Danganronpa and picked up One Piece Unlimited World Red at a local electronics place. He couldn't find the cartridge to put in the box (I really hate that it's common to do that now) and had to be told by a coworker, "That's not a 3DS game, it's Vita. It's in a different section."
Which is sad. I never appreciated the PSP during its run, but I showered my love on Vita to anybody would listen. Unfortunately... not many people did.
Still, the future is an awfully long time to predict. And with Sony dominating the console scene right now, maybe they've got something new up their sleeve. It's not totally outside the realm of possibility.
It's still profitable. It's still working on a market. The attach rate is still high enough to bring in even more profit. Still, straight handhelds they are still making money. Sure, only like 3.5b yen but hey, thats probably better then their TV division.
Given how abysmal the home console side is doing in Japan it's hard to predict much of anything more than like a year out. It may be a bit of a situation of doing the least poorly there right now, but the Vita's the only console up over the previous year, and the PS4 is crickets by comparison. A handheld-centric strategy in Japan and a home-centric strategy in the West is absolutely a believable long-term plan for Sony, in my mind.

It's not being run by their TV division though, it's being run by SCE and for them, it's a choice between spending all their resources on the very profitable PS4 or spending some of their resources on the slightly profitable Vita. Sucks but that's the reality of things.
I think that if they ever do another handheld, it'd have to be a real PlayStation Phone, with SCE and Sony Mobile collaborating together on it. But who knows how that'd work out, the Vita and Xperia Z line are great separately but that doesn't mean both divisions would work well together and support such a product properly.
Oh and I missed the PSIV talk? Damn. That game was my first JRPG.
Old games always make me wish for a more recent remake. If only to make menues and transitions more smooth and snappy. Dust off and tighten screws.
Apparently there's an updated version of PSIV on the Japanese PSN for about $10. It has a few bug fixes and tweaks, and the English mode is in there, according to TSR.
Well that just cost me Y823. Not sure how many times I've bought that dang game, starting with the $100 cartridge, the $80 cartridge when I regretted selling the first cartridge, the Genesis PS2 collection, the PSP collection...
Do you have it on Steam yet? I just bought the whole SEGA collection while I was at it. Only reason I don't have the PSN one yet is because I don't want to buy a $20 Japanese card for the account.
As long as you read the instructions, Neptunia is fine. It's a little tough and a little sparse in parts, but you can brute force some of it simply by grinding a few levels; it.s hard to call it grinding even as my experience has been there are certain critters you can smash over and over that respawn fairly fast and give a lot of XP. With the ability to add tough monsters in any map, you create the ability to grind efficiently plus you can apply an overall 'Enfeebled monsters" to make life easier.
Actually, relating to the One Piece game I bought - I didn't know that it includes some DLC with the game, and my Vita is on my US account. The game was purchased here in Australia, so I cannot use the DLC without changing my Vita region, yes?

Yeap that's right. And unless there's a new method, changing regions will do a data reset and the memory cards are associated with the PSN account.
If you can afford to do so, absolutely have multiple memory cards if you're switching regions on the regular. Then you're only going through the factory reset, not also backing up data and reformatting one memory card.

Man, the Danganronpa 2 release just kind of snuck up on me. Didn't even grok that it was in a couple days. Was going to order some other games, and then had the foresight to check to see when it was coming out. Since literally nothing else will get played until it's done.

I suppose it's hard to tell in Japan, where every home console is doing balls right now. It's not a Sony thing, but rather a Japan thing as a whole.
As for the Vita's future... you're right, they have to continue with handhelds to get any kind of hold on Japan, but by doing a home console correctly (at least in most people's minds), they've made the PS4 a huge success everywhere but Japan. Something tells me the whole 'Vita plays PS4 games' is basically a test. I have a feeling the next console will be home and portable in one, and more than the Wii-U's gamepad.
I imagine the system being not much more powerful than the PS4. Like we've seen in PC gaming, graphics have plateaued and require way more expensive hardware for smaller steps ahead. So update memory/HD/video card and you're pretty much set. The portable part would be something on par with the Vita except a little more cheaply made (we all love the Vita, but you have to admit it's hella expensive for a portable). Have it dock to the home console, which lets it charge/update/sync. Let it enhance games on the home console, be used as a potential controller/second screen, let it show background work like downloads and messages/invites you get while playing something, and maybe even used as extra storage/processing power. Give it enough memory to download a handful of games you like on the home console you can play on lower resolutions, then take it on the go. When you return home, dock the portable and it updates your progress automatically with the home console's version. And I'm sure it can be used to remote play like the PS4/Vita already does. Oh, and whatever console the next one is MUST be BC with PS4/Vita games, especially now when it's almost too easy to do so.
This is at least what I'd LIKE to see. It's one of the few ways I can think of having a system that could in some fashion cater to both sides of the market.
The "booze 'em up" visual novel "about waifus, technology, and post-dystopia life," VA-11 HALL-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action, is apparenty coming to Vita.
I have so little interest in a Playstation Phone, it's not even funny.
Why? The ideal result, to me, is a device that wouldn't be a slouch as a phone or a gaming device and wouldn't require you to use either one or the other (having no SIM card would be an option and so on). It could have a dual OS, with Android as one (letting you download apps and so on) and a dedicated gaming OS as the other (so that games aren't limited by Java and all of Google's high level APIs). It would, of course, require SCE and Sony Mobile to not fuck it up but this is obviously all theoretical.
It'd be a smart move in Japan, because while the handheld market may still be alive there (unlike the dead console market), the mobile market is fucking booming. And it'd have a far better chance of finding an audience outside of Japan than a dedicated handheld ever would.
But hey, you could have the alternative instead: No Sony handheld ever again.
Frankly I'd be perfectly happy with a PlayStation Phone on two conditions, both of which seem relatively obvious:
1) Traditional controls, even it's only on some models but still a mandated/heavily recommended option for every game.
2) PSN
If I had to pick a 3) it'd be Vita/PSP backwards compatibility, because that's obvious too and really does a lot to strengthen PlayStation and PSN as a platform, but if I had to pick I could live without it. Hit 1 and 2 though and I don't care what else it does --- mobile phone, mobile phonograph, I'm interested.
But indeed this is all just theoretical and conjecture, and you know what --- we have Vita games coming out of our ears right now so I'm not going to worry about this stuff. Vita games!

The Vita could have been a halfway decent phone in itself(even if it was only 3G) if the distressingly blatant "we're fucking you in the ass and we're not even hiding it" AT&T plan options didn't damn the cellular function to death even before the Vita launched.
Everyone, I have only one problem with Re;Birth1 and it feels like a glaring omission --- Neptune doesn't yell "I'M A KANGAROO!" when you jump like she does in Victory. :(
