I'm replaying Chrono Cross at the moment, and it's staggering to see all the aspects that people really seem to want from RPGs today
It's extremely colorful, the characters are varied and eclectic, and the writing is actually very top-notch in places I didn't realize when playing it as a kid.
I will say one downside to the big character cast is that many of the characters didn't really have much story outside of the short segments dedicated to them.
