    @Asher
I'd be keen to hear peoples thoughts on how to use the Armoured Combat and Beginner mechs to build a couple of lances

Back on this for a hot sec: here's how I divided my AGoAC miniatures out:

Generic Team Yellow: Wasp, Commando, Griffin, Wolverine, Catapult, Battlemaster
Generic Team Purple: Locust, Valkyrie, Shadow Hawk, Wolverine, Thunderbolt, Awesome

The 'Mechs in bold are a pair that I added to the AGoAC miniatures, because @DaMoonRulz was a gentleman and helped me acquire the not-actually-in-distribution variants of these sold only at Cons (see those pics up at the top of the last page).

As for the rest: It's a matched pair of forces, composed of Light/Light/Medium/Medium/Heavy/Assault class 'Mechs. This way, I can mix and match down to a Lance of most types, excepting the very lightest or heaviest (or otherwise lopsided) compositions.

In my collection, I've actually divvied things up to hold to a lance of composition of Light/Medium/Heavy/Assault. For instance, that Davion lance on the last page is set up in this way. I've done things like this, because in Alpha Strike (the streamlined, large-force version of Battletech) most of my collection then is pick up and play, divided into lances for each faction.

Again, though, there's no right or wrong way to organize your 'Mechs! However you want to play the game, go for it!

Lol, yeah. How's your 2032 calendar shaping up? As much as I know my baby girl's gonna take up daddy's neurohelmet, it'll be a while before I take her the big Con.

    @DaMoonRulz

    So here's a deep, hidden-lore question:

What year were the Oosik Regulars mustered on Warrumbungle? And when was the Oosik's arrival on Talisker? I feel like it had to be well before 2851 (Second Succession War), as the 2SW book has the Irregulars formed in that year (if you believe the Drac propaganda!).

The 1SW ended in 2821, and the 2SW starts in 2830. So, were the Regulars mustered during the 1SW, or during the armistice period between the wars?

I imagine there had to be some time between the Oosik Sack (ne-e Defense) of Talisker and the Irregulars official founding, even if only a year or two.
Also, the 2SW book doesn't list the 2nd Oosik Regulars (b/c ofc not) among the Lyran forces. Therefore, I think it's safe to say I don't think the 2nd Oosik Regulars were mustered during the 2SW, unless it was under one of the many Donegal Guards formations (b/c Warrumbungle is in the District of Donegal).

Looking back at the renders from the initial reveal...

    Clan-Command-Star-box-render-6-5a.png

If you look at the relative stance of the feet on the hex, it's clear the Adder render is smaller than the Dashi. It is quite chunky, though! I'm with you on that.

So the scuttlebutt re: the Grendel is that the Devs looked at the Invasion 16, and decided that a couple of them were too specialized or faction-focused to include in the Invasion kickstarter rework. Specifically, the Dasher/Fire Moth gets called out as a one-trick pony only the Bears and Wolves use. So some of the later Invasion 'Mechs got picked out; the Grendel was first deployed at Tukayyid, so it's technically still an Invasion era design.

I'm a little miffed the Dasher is likely getting passed over (Light 'Mech Lover here), but the Grendel is a really good 'Mech, that also looks good. That new render up above is really saucy.

Odd that they did not include the other MWO earlier clan mechs instead. Are the Stormcrow, Mad Dog, Kit Fox, Summoner, Warhawk, Mist Lynx, Hellbringer, Ice Ferret, Arctic Cheetah, Shadow Hawk, Ebon Jaguar, or Gargoyle not universally used? I mean, heck the Stormcrow and Mad Dog are more well known than the Grendel.

Well, this is just a preview. Those five 'Mechs are in the core Invasion box, and they've stated there will be stretch goals.

Here's the original Invasion 16 from TRO 3050:

    Fire Moth (Dasher)
    Mist Lynx (Koshi)
    Kit Fox (Uller)
    Adder (Puma)
    Viper (Dragonfly)
    Ice Ferret (Fenris)
    Nova (Black Hawk)
    Stormcrow (Ryoken)
    Mad Dog (Vulture)
    Hellbringer (Loki)
    Summoner (Thor)
    Timber Wolf (Mad Cat)
    Gargoyle (Man O' War)
    Warhawk (Masakari)
    Executioner (Gladiator)
    Dire Wolf (Daishi)

The ones in bold have been confirmed through previews. We've also seen the Grendel and Shadow Cat, which then rounds out the core Invasion box and the additional Command Star stretch goal.

Sooooo.....there's still a lot of slack yet to pick up from the Invasion 16. I honestly think it would be madness if they didn't continue on, and release boxes to include reworks of the rest we haven't had a preview for yet. If they did break it up, I imagine they'll do another 4+1 and 4+1 to hit those last 8 TRO 3050 'Mechs....I just don't know what the two +1's might be.

I guess we'll find out on Wednesday!

Ahhh. I just found it weird with the mechs they chose for the box set. I take it that is enough to do a small Versus match? 1 Assault, 1 Heavy, 2 Mediums and 1 Light.

I mean, LMMHA is just LMHA with an extra Medium. I'm fine with that, since my premade lances tend to be LMHA as well for variety's sake.

That said, Clantech plus the extra medium means that Star's closer to a Heavy lance in power and BV, depending on what the IS lance brings in.

Interestingly, the LMMHA star composition doesn't match with anything in the RAT in the Total Warfare book for Star Weight Composition.

    In conclusion: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What the fuck? I thought HG sued Tatsunoko at one point (not this latest arbitration the article's talking about, some years back), why would they extend it?

Yep, I had to do a double take last night. Guessing HG had a briefcase filled with money and promise of more money that Tatsunoko couldn't refuse... It is just sad that HG is going to continue for a long time in the USA. I'm not surprised given how much HG needs the Robotech label to survive and actually figured something like this was going to happen (because yeah, everything sucks lately).

The article seems to think the Sony movie deal is a big part of it. But honestly, I feel like Tatsunoko and Sony would've been better off to cut out the middle man, bring Studio Nue and Big West onboard, and just make a Macross movie. I don't think Robotech is a stronger brand in any meaningful way these days. Back in the 80's, or even the early-mid 90's when it was in syndication? Sure. But I feel like nowadays pretty much anyone who cares about Robotech knows its origins, and I never see product or promotional stuff for the other series it used, just the Macross part.

Also, they're all Japanese companies, why do they need a poky little North American production company owned by an Italian criminal to help them get this made?

Addendum, I wonder how they intend to deal with the inevitable social networking backlash about whitewashing Hikaru Ichijo and Misa Hayase into Rick Hunter and Lisa Hayes?

Because if Sony's rights are through HG and Robotech, then I don't think they can use the Japanese identities of the characters, and while that wasn't a taboo in the 80's, nowadays things are very different and people are a lot less tolerant of Hollywood's tendencies towards erasure of minorities (Asian characters in particular).

Honestly I am going to believe that Sony is going to eventually shelve their movie till the agreement is almost done. Although with the success of Bumblebee, they might test the waters with one movie. Plus with the main bulk of the audience not knowing that Robotech was taken from Macross, I doubt that the whitewashing of Rick and Lisa will kill or hurt the movie in any way.

Man, CGL is just firehosing us with BT content the past few weeks and I love it. I got the House Arano, Tech Manual reprint, and Alpha Strike Commander's Edition books all in bound with a couple fresh copies of the the AGoAC box set that I'm gonna squirrel away until I learn how to paint something in Oosik Colours without the white looking like hot fucking garbage and the orange being an uneven mess. Blue is easy. Blue is fucking zen paint time where it's almost impossible to fuck up so you can just zone out and make like you're 5 and painting with crayons.

But yeah, the white and orange are busting my balls pretty hard. Also I fucked up the spray primering on like half my models and not even simple green is fixing it but whatever. I'll use my trash models for worry free practice and then bust out the minty fresh stuff for when I'm not shit at painting. I'm gonna get a couple sets of the Clan Kickstarter stuff and sequester those away for later too.

@Nips I'm gonna try that Grinder thing format next time my local small group plays. Should make for some right proper hilarity :D

Also I highly recommend y'all check out the latest Flechs.net updates. We can finally split fire between targets and there's been some other nice QoL alterations.

Fuuuuuck yeah. If you do a quick search, you'll turn up any number of Grinder rulesets. Here's one I came up with for a friend's birthday party, and the 'Mech list that we were working from.

This particular Grinder ruleset is a little more complicated, to give that nice Solaris 7 flavor to the match. You can do something as simple as "Free For All Murder Funtimes", and it's just as good.

It's almost guaranteed that the Kickstarter is intended to result in the Clan Invasion boxes ending up on retail shelves eventually, so as long as it goes well I don't think you'll have problems there.

Battletech experts, is it ok to mix Inner Sphere and Clan mechs? Like say, my IS mercenary company salvaged this Shadow Cat off the battlefield? I feel like there's no balance issue, it costs much more BV after all, but would people be grumpy?

As long as you're doing it with a merc corp set in the right era it wouldn't be unheard of for salvaged Clan tech to be out in the wild.

the major issues are generally related to repair and maintenance, since parts are harder to source and jury rigging IS parts for replacement can be difficult. Smaller Merc units, IIRC, had standing offers to trade in Clan salvage for bounty with the House and they were associated with during the Clan Invasion.

Jihad onward that changed, since you had Clans moving into the Inner Sphere wholesale and not only selling parts and expertise, but selling full on Clan tech omnimechs to all sellers.

Anybody know what this is? My knowledge comes mostly from the mech commander and warrior games and is failing me here.

What always bothers me a bit with most battletech models are the tiny stock bases with overhanging feet. I knw they have to fit on the hexes, but slightly bigger bases would look so much nicer.

Fortunately, there's literally only time and materials standing between you and miniatures on larger bases. IWM in fact sells oversized bases alongside the standard size; the metal minis frequently don't have a full-size integral base, so you can add the larger base during construction. And the plastic minis are easily removed from their bases and put on something wider; MDF and acrylic laser-cut bases are popular and cheap.

Also, the game rules don't give a shit, so go ham.

Case in point: you can do absolutely stupid things like this, and the rules have you covered.

Seriously though, the mechs they picked, those are all Robotech unseen? Or am I misremembering? Makes me feel a little less annoyed that HG retained the Robotech license.

Still annoyed, but marginally less so.
