Also the return of nut shots. Those melee finishers are going to be insane.

It feels like Skyrim and Fallout are two different beasts. Fallout has you as man, a simple solitary human becoming skilled, not godlike, and wandering the wasteland with your posse, reaching a goal and doling out justice.

Skyrim feels like you're a living god slowly drawing on the power found in the souls of dragons until you can conquer the world.

I'm just saying I don't want the power to rend life from Boston unless I've turned on godmode.

I dunno man, at level 50 in New Vegas I was functionally a god. Even deathclaws were little more than a minor inconvenience. Well, except in some of the DLC areas where they levelled with me and became ridiculous bullet sponges. Then they became a major inconvenience, but not really a threat.

I mean, the story with Scrolls was silly and unnecessary, but they make a valid point this time. Fallout is a bit more of a specific word.
To illustrate to difference between the two cases - Personally, If I were to see a game named "Fallout Fortress" without any further context, I'd assume it was a Fallout-related game.

Well if it were a mobile game really I would assume it was some piece of shit trying to cash in on the popularity of the Fallout franchise by tricking the gullible into thinking there was some connection... Doesn't seem like that was the case here, just the guy didn't think it through.

Nah, while this isn't quite as absurd as scrolls, the word fallout has had meaning long long before the games, and I would put a large sum of money down on the bet that a substantially larger population of people know what fallout actually means and wouldn't have the slightest damn clue about a game of that title.

Fallout is a pretty well known word and concept, this lawsuit is bullshit. It's akin to trying to sue over the words candy or crush. It's in the modern vernacular and anyone that has lived in the last century knows precisely what fallout is.

I dont want vehicles, at least not fast ones. Part of the fun of 3 and NV was slowly walking over a hill, soaking in every passing inch of the super detailed world.

What I do want is raiders and villages and forts with like a Shadow of Mordor system, where you can manipulate the politics and leaders and power structures.

Also you could run your own place, but maybe be like the deputy or warrior leader, so it makes sense for you to be out in the world and not just sending out others

As for stats and combat systems and shit, I could never care less about all the problems most people find. I just hope they have more detailed and varied gore.

As for the legal thing, as has been said before, this is how stuff like this goes, lawyers have to aggressively go after infringements, even seemingly trivial ones, because they dont know if this game is going to turn into the next minecraft and steal their thunder. So while it might look like a giant squashing a bug, they have to assume all threats are equal because they could be. Also legal divisions if they dont do this, can end up being fucked over in the long run if they dont do their job.

Part of me is not satisfied with how random the gamebryo games are compared to the original fallout games and yearns for something more.

The rest of me is too busy running across Skyrim on horseback.

Still want the villages to have a bit of interation. Something that bugged me about F3 and F:NV is that I was doing all this crazy shit and no one talked about it sans the radio.

Maybe I'm getting wires crossed here but something feels lacking in this department that settlements seemed so static.

The problem just comes down to available resources and time in development and what to trade off. Do you make a super detailed settlement with tonnes of dialogue and detail? Then it's going to be harder to layer on even more reaction and change that's just as detailed and deep. The alternative is overly generic change "mechanics" that feel too artificial or systemised but do create more comprehensive changes. I just hope they get a good balance.

In terms of the environment a thing people don't consider with bethesda games, and something which I'm a massive fan of and love and never want them to change, is the fact that almost every item in the environment can be picked up and moved around the world, where it stays whereever you place it. This puts immense pressure on the engine, and probably prevents quick vehicle travel and requires load screens for interiors, but in my opinion it's worth it.

It's worht it to me because although big open world games like gtaV and far cry 4 look great, they never quite impress me the way bethesda games do, because they feel like just super well done 3d backdrops, environments you can move through but can't really interact with outside of ways the developer wants you to.

It's a huge part of why I love their worlds, it creates a sense that everything is real and everything is there for you to decide what's significant and what you want to interact with. It reduces that sense of filler space that other open world games have. In no other games can you pick up and value an object not because it's stats are great or it's useful, but because you like the look of it, and might want to put it in your house, or want to roll it down a hill, but not the hill it's on, the hill at a certain town. There's a magic in that and if they ever change it, I'll probably lose interest in their games

Like I have never picked up a fork in skyrim, but the fact that I could, that I could grab all the forks and stack them in my house, it's just a great metaphor for the larger principles underpinning the exploration themes of their games

I know, its a matter of 100 villages with all the depth of a red solo cup (Daggerfall) verses one really interesting city with dept of an olympic diving pool surrounded by randomly generated wilderness (I can't think of an example but I know there's one out there).

It's also worth bringing up that towns didn't interact much in the old games either. Fallout 1 had the timed events and a few little moments, but most towns in Fallout 2, despite the plot connections, didn't feel like they were in the same damn game.

A gangster city straight out of "A Piece of the Action" (except, you know, M rated in ways that do not invoke the traditional meaning of the word 'mature') doesn't mesh too well with wasteland tribals, who hardly fit with kung fu berg. Fallout 2...

I am not as in love with it as some. I will leave things at that.

No. No, they really fucking weren't.

Any opportunity for a pop culture joke, no matter how setting breaking, was taken. I mean, the Hubologists alone would be enough for me to argue the game was willing to sacrifice internal consistency for a cheap joke (if, you know, at a deserving target), but it's part of a pretty consistent pattern. Hell, the Temple of Trials is enough to say the game doesn't make a damn lick of sense. Little Lamplight, well, I'm not going to defend it. But it's the one everyone goes to, while I can get a good dozen out of Fallout 2 once I get rolling.

It's funny. I don't even particularly dislike Fallout 2 for the most part, and my feelings on Fallout 3 never surpass mild fondness, but whenever this sort of thing comes up, I feel an instinctive urge to start tearing 2 more assholes than an abalone.

(Meanwhile, whenever New Vegas comes up, my negative feelings boil down to 'Caesar's Legion is a bit shit.' and even then I tend to think in in-universe terms. New Vegas is pretty alright.)

That temple......I consider Fallout2 to be a victim of resources and story. They couldn't make new assets to make the temple more convincing so they threw something together. Even if you explain it all away as the Vault Dweller leaving it all behind and holding a few bits of tech, I hardly doubt people would speak and act like that after a few generations away from the rest of California....unless the medicine man was making some really good shit.

    But those hubologists......fucking a.

Well, it's also worth mentioning that most of Fallout 2 wasn't like that. Klamath and Modoc are trapping and farming communities, the Den is a minor anarchic hole, Redding and Broken Hills are mining towns, Gecko is a shantytown around an old nuclear reactor, etc. The most out of place location in the early game would be Vault City, and I think that was meant to contrast what the GECK could do (start a town) versus what people might do with it (create an insular and sterile society with a caste system).

Granted, if you're doing a lot of sidequesting you'll spend a lot of time in Gangster City and Kung-Fu Utopia, but I think it's unfair to say that most of the game is a series of planets of hats.

I'm really disappointed that screwing around in Gecko's reactor couldn't piss off a certain someone to send a kill team into the town.

I'm also bothered that every last fucking patrol of the Enclave was three people in expensive power armor rather than 1 power armor and a bunch of mooks.

But when you're running across the battlefield and unleash leaping crane strike on the poor girl's eyes, it doesn't really matter, does it?

I'm really just joking, I know how the techwhatzits work. My mobo/cpu are about 4 years old now and I'm dying for an upgrade. The 770 I bought last year is what is keeping me happy, but I'm back to having my CPU (maybe even RAM too) be a bottleneck, as it was prior to my last upgrade.

It still just makes me sad that pre-2010 is 'really old'.

I dont have a really old computer but gamebryo continues to be a buggy pos and running TTW I still have CTD. Now guessing as to what exactly is causing these crashes (the bloated save file sizes, movement speed, cell buffers not getting purged) are anyone's guess but it still happens,
