During E3: Hahahaha no FFXV oh wait Type-0 holy shit
After E3: FFV discussions
Dammit Square.
Thing is, this happened last year when they actually showed XV, so it should be no surprise. 75 days of FF V. Play it on the beach. Play it in bed, play it on the train, since it's got a phone version you can pretend to be productive while playing it. Play it old school, play it new school, screen cap it, speed run it, stream it, let's play it.
How is the iPhone version compared to the GBA version? Is it missing anything? Is it the bestest version?
It pretty much is the GBA version really. The iOS one has the awesome auto-battle feature so that does make it the winner in my mind, but there aren't really any huge differences.
I played the iPhone version for the Fiesta last year, it worked just fine. The graphics never bothered me and the control scheme seemed mostly fine, although not perfect.
So I decided today to play FF5 mostly blind and also do the job fiesta at the same time. I'm enjoying it so far and currently sitting just after fire crystal and have rolled Thief/Time Mage/Beastmaster.
I am literally the only person in the world happy Type-0 is coming out on the PS4 rather than Vita. Keep in mind, I don't hate the Vita, at all, I don't own one, although I have owned a PSP in the past, I don't see myself getting a Vita, unless Dissida 2 comes out for it. And even THEN, I would rather have a new Dissidia on consoles.
It was the best thing to come out of the FFXIII clusterfuck, and is one of the reasons I'll even BUY a PS4. Because I want some good Final Fantasy on a console, especially with XV not coming until Square releases it from Hypertime.
I wouldn't say you are the only one, I'm happy about it as well because I also don't have a Vita and will now be able to play it on my PS4.
I think there are far far fewer people actually upset at this than people who are just loudly opposed to it. Vocal Minority and all that. People who are upset tend to want others to know they are upset, while people who are happy are not as inclined to spread how happy they are.
In Customer service we were told that a happy customer might tell 2-3 people about a positive experience, where an unhappy person would tell 10-15 people about a bad experience. Just the nature of people, and it's why you can't really use "internet outrage" as an indicator of how upset the affected population is at all.
Plus Square is involved, which means the people who do complain really go nuts about it.
Except that the people asking for it were PSP/Vita owners.
This is like, I dunno, Greenland petitioning Sony to release the PS4 in their country and then Sony comes out with a press conference saying "and thanks to the massive number of petitions we had from Greenlanders, we've finally decided to bring the PS4 to Iceland!!!!!"
I'm sure they would make money in Iceland. That's not in dispute. But it's a bit daft to suggest that the people complaining are the vocal minority. The people complaining were the now-abandoned vocal, um, totalocrity, if there is such a word.
This is flat out a case of Square saying "well, thanks for your support. Based on your feedback, we're going to release this for a totally different group of people."
Sure, there is overlap in those two audiences but not by much.
Perhaps they mistook both groups as falling under the header of "people who play games on Sony systems"?
I'll admit I did the same, probably contributing to my bafflement over the outrage following the announcement.
I'm equally baffled how you and others could be baffled by the outrage. No offense, but it seems silly to have to even explain it at this point. Not because those of us who are annoyed have done so, at length. But because it seems pretty self evident to me that a group of people who asked for the game on a handheld might be upset that Square decided to finally localize the game but explicitly decide to pass over the handheld version being asked for for three years.
I really don't comprehend where your lack of comprehension or empathy comes from here. Seems pretty fucking simple to me.

Then I suppose I should stop embarrassing myself and wasting everyone's time. I'm sorry.
edit: Ugh, god. That sounded horribly passive-aggressive and pity-seeking, now that I'm seeing it written down. Rather, I should say that it'd be damn foolish of me to continue saying what people should and shouldn't be disappointed by, and I feel now like I'd just be arguing from a position of passionate ignorance, so I'll just stop it.

I don't mean to be an ass, but if you're being totally honest that you just don't get the outrage, I don't know what else to say. I think it's been pretty well explained at this point. It's not like this is a new product pulled from thin air. It's a game that originated as a handheld game that handheld gamers wanted as a handheld localized port. And now that it's being localized, but not as a handheld game, the people who have been asking for it for three years are upset. How is that not understandable?
I felt the same way about Project Diva. I was annoyed that it was originally only announced and released as a PS3 port here. Why? Because I was expecting/hoping the handheld version to be ported here from Japan. In the end, I ended up with two versions.
I felt the same way about Zone of the Enders and Kingdom Hearts 1.5. I somehow got it into my head that both of those games were getting Vita remasters. Clearly I was wrong.
But Type-0 is the worst example because the game was originally a portable title and it was portable gamers that asked endlessly for it to be ported.
I'm not trying to be an ass, but how do you NOT understand the consternation here?
Any answer I could give would just be me arguing from a point of ignorance, and extending an argument past the point where I have any faith in my position, so I'm just gonna cede the discussion.
I mean, it's one thing to say "I'm glad it's coming to PS4/XBO and not Vita because I don't have a Vita but I have/will have one of those systems." That is a totally legit reaction.
But "I don't get why people are so upset about this" just doesn't seem like a comprehensible response to the outcry. I think the complaints have been explained pretty well by now.
*shrug*
edit: This isn't directed at you, @Enlong. Just some general musing. And to your last post, fair enough. I'm not trying to chill discussion on this topic, I'm just getting a little irritated.

I have some serious doubts as to the accuracy of this estimation. There will be even more Vita owners that buy a PS4 by the time the game is actually released.
The other way around is much less likely. The PS4 has already outsold the Vita in the US. The Vita is also difficult to develop for, while the PS4 is easy, so a Vita release would have probably delayed the game (something SE has struggled with a lot recently).
They made the right move, as much as it may suck for some.

I cant really recall geomancer, how good was it?
Aggressively decent. Gaia deals okay damage, bells do decent damage from both rows, and the danger-floor prevention is nice to have. Doesn't synergize amazingly with other classes, but it's never a bad class to have.
Except when you're in the Ronka ruins, and you only have access to Wind Slash, which common enemies absorb.

They more or less had/have a Vita-compatible version complete. Combined with chocobolicious's observation on attach rates and various other poster's observations about the group who actually expressed interest in the game not getting it and I think they made a very stupid decision.
The vast majority of Vita owners has to be people invested in Sony products who also love Japanese games, so those people are going to buy a PS4 anyways if they don't already own it.
Maybe. Doesn't change the fact that I wanted a portable version and I am not alone in that. I mean, I already have a PS4 and an XBO. I don't really want Type-0 for those systems.
My point is, having a home console of planning to have a console that Type-0 will be on doesn't necessarily change much.

Anyway I'm going to vomit if I talk about this anymore so let's all discuss the worst Final Fantasy of them all: Final Fantasy IX.
Final Fantasy IX is terrible for the following reasons:
- Rodent main character
- Most obnoxious minigames in any Final Fantasy aside from Final Fantasy X-2
- Slowest implementation of ATB ever
- Terrible secondary characters - Cid was a god-awful design
- Everything about it
That reminds me, I need to finish the FFIX file I have on my PS3. Maybe this playthrough, I'll get around to Hades and Ozma, what with no longer having the PSP's massive lag to sap my will to live.
Legit, never found a reason to willingly take him out of my party.
Also, Steiner. You have him for criminally few sections in the early game. Thankfully, Memoria lets me build the Steiner, Vivi, Quina, Garnet team that I always wanted.

No way man, Ronka Ruins is where they shine. There are a handful of enemies that absorb Wind, but against everything else, they do absurd damage.
EDIT- Vivi is the best character in FFIX. Doomsday + Dark absorbing stuff is just unfair. And I played on the PSP last year. The only lag I ever really experienced was in forest battles, for some reason. Everything else ran fine.

Whether or not the Vita thing is true (I personally find it hard to believe), there is basically no argument for "hard to develop a portable version" when the portable version already exists. It's what we've been asking for for years. A bunch of fans with no access to the source code or Square Enix's resources were able to put out what is apparently a pretty great translation, I have no sympathy for "it'd be effort, bloo bloo" anymore. Eventually Square Enix's problems aren't my problems, if they don't want to give me the product I want, I have no obligation to care about what's right for them.
I mean, I hate to sound like a stereotypical "fuck Square Enix" poster, but sometimes... fuck Square Enix. I don't make excuses for companies I once liked, and I feel their move speaks towards how they feel about me as a class of customer, and it has been a long time since they were the only game in town.

Yo is FF IX the one with the weird chef monster party member?
FFIX is the best FF unless you're a heartless robot.
Of which case your robotic brain probably idolizes FFVII or something. Because you have no soul.
FFIX was downright charming, the entire cast was great, it got rid of all those damn for super serious ham handed drama craps the last two games dragged into the series.

The new enemy sprites are pretty great though.
Not sure what to do now.
It's not certain yet if this image represents the quality of the HD port.
If it does, though, I'd say that's a step up from "slap-dash".
