Beat Type:Rider, including the Comic Sans level, and got all the cards. It was alright I guess, though I just blitzed through it after 100%'ing the first few areas.
and i thought i could buy a controller and then buy the game.
but this is cheaper.
i'm learning.
can any else see this giveaway or no?

And amidst all of this XCOM discussion Xenonauts drops its 1.0 version. While the official release is two weeks away while they make sure there's nothing terrible lurking within the current build, for all intents and purposes this is it. No more broken savegames because a new build has released. The endgame is now playable. All assets are in place.
Oh, man. Thanks so much @DasUberEdward! I saw this yesterday, looked at screenshots, explored the website, watched a vid, watched @Big Classy stream it... and it went straight to the top of my wishlist. Looks so good!

I'm just here for the juxtaposition.
Also it's probably too scary for me. I can barely get through Alan Wake (i haven't made it through Alan Wake)
It isn't that scary tbh and this coming from a guy who refuses to play past the hour mark in Amnesia!
Everyone says Amnesia is scary, but the problem I had with it was
while the buildup parts were pretty tense, once the monster actually appeared I wasn't scared, I was just curious, and I just wanted to get closer to it to see what it looked like.
That and while I thought the light mechanic was interesting, it bugged the shit out of me because whenever I play a game I tend to resource hog so using up items to light lamps to progress irked me for some reason.
Anime Toast gifted me International Snooker because Donnicton gifted them with Contraption Maker.
Normally this is where I would talk about rampages, monstrous behaviour and innocent bystanders, today however I'm just going to say thank you so much. I came down with some kind of super death virus last night (and worse it's robbed me of my voice, I fucking love to talk so this is torture.) and so I'm just going to revel in the warmth of how nice this forum community is and let it make me feel better.
It's an early alpha and buggy as hell (every time I picked up a rock once my backpack got full it told me I couldn't carry any more raw fish) but super neat. Tons of potential.
I uh... I only survived 3 days the first game, though. Had a nice camp and all that but then the cannibals showed up for dinner...

well if your back pack was full you probably couldn't carry more raw fish.

Just got through with the XCOM: EU demo ... it was ... interesting. I had to end up using my 360 controller after trying with the mouse for a bit. The mouse seemed somewhat ... finicky for me and I ended up getting frustrated when I couldn't get the cursor or guys to go where I wanted. I did feel a little tense at first since I had no idea what was going on or if I was going to be able to handle everything. Once I got settled in I was making tactical decisions and making sure we all came home ... LOL. All in all I liked what I saw so I will think about if I will buy the full version or not (maybe do a bit more research). Now to liberate my credit card from the clutches of the better half before all the monies are gone ... I fear it may already be too late
Alan Wake isn't really scary because you can pew pew all the monsters. Also, it's just not really a scary game. Dudes jump out, say weirdly sinister yet benign things, and then they die when you shoot them with your ENERGIZER(tm) batteries.
It's at best a little creepy, and even American Nightmare basically throws out all pretension of scariness and has a lot of fun with it.
1) Alan Wake on the hardest difficulty is a completely different game. You will be fleeing from enemies because there's no way you can take them all on.

I will always say this when it comes to Alan wake. It is NOT a horror game. It's not even trying to BE one. It's a supernatural thriller.
To the above posts. I was playing on hard. It's still scary as heck to me. But I have a very active imagination.
actually now that I think about it my game glitched a few chapters in and events just stopped triggering. I think I ran through like 10 minutes of the game with absolutely nothing happening. Not sure if I was able to fix it on a reload or not.

Yeah, Alan Wake doesn't even try to be subtle about being a video game version of a Stephen King novel. I think it still counts as a "horror" game, but it's of a very different sort to something like Amnesia or Outlast.
@DarkPrimus ... I'm cool to a degree with some of them dying. Like I said it's war, shit happens. That's not what gets me. It's having to play through a level multiple times until I come out with a satisfying result because my approach was wrong. Pre-planning for a level, then getting your ass handed to you over and over again until you 'win' is not much fun. I guess what I was trying to ask is if there are only certain ways to win certain levels? Like if I need x troop and y troop or else I will lose badly regardless of how well I place and manage the troops on the field type of thing. How much of that is in this game?
If I have one complaint, it's the "enemy gets a free turn when you encounter them" system, which overly encourages conservative movement and play, but you'll get a ridiculous amount of mileage out of the game before that element burns you out on it.
That element burnt me out immediately.
That's fair enough, but I'd really encourage playing more before giving up on it--there is a whole lot else on offer in the game.
Nope. I think I was maybe 7 or 8 missions in. Thinking oh hey this is a neat game. Then that bullshit mechanic showed up and I realized that I had to crawl my troops across the map because of how the vision/encounter system worked.
Nope nope nope.
Yeah the mechanic is fine unless you don't like crawling around. If you are good at planning and executing blitzkrieg style moves you can expose too much terrain for the encounter system to deal with. Then the aliens tend to get dropped inside your perimeter with a free move. They usually don't go for cover in this circumstance. They tend to shoot one of your best dudes in the back. The way that I'm intended to play XCOM EU is not the way I want to play it.
XCOM EU actively punishes you for playing this way and it's not much fun when it happens. Even in that XCOM way. It just feels broken. That gives me a big sad.
That was my experience entirely. Which sucks because I really wanted to get in on the XCOM groove.
I don't know what ya all are talking about, I never felt it required to slowly inch my way through the field, you just need to be smart about your movements. Keep your guys in high cover as much as possible, make sure your farthest move is your first move, and try to keep a well balanced team that fits your play-style. 2 Assaults and a Squad Sight Sniper are great for aggressive advancement.
Also EUIV is awesome and should be played by all. Just keep in mind it's like Civ 5 with the "just... one... more... turn" thing except, there are no turns.

For me
Alan Wake is much more frightening than Amnesia or whatever.
It's one of those where getting all the achievements require superhuman dedication that a regular ass person would never, ever be able to do. It's loony bins shit.

So, I love demos.
Mainly because then I can try out games, then add them to the ever growing wishlist. Today, I tried out Hell Yeah, Max:The Curse of Brotherhood, Shadow Warrior (2013), Warhammer 40K: Space Marine and Blades of Time. And I enjoyed all of them, but for very different reasons. The strangest ones for me to like were Shadow Warrior and Space Marine, because I'm not a shooter fan usually, of the third or first person varieties. Hell Yeah is balls to the wall fun platformer, and Max:TCoB is . . . strange but fun. Like mixing some side-scrolling with Okami art/nature powers. And Blades of Time feels very much like "God of War, but . . ." and I'm ok with that, though the time controls are imprecise.
Also, I tried out Lord of the Rings: War in the North, which was gifted to me a few days ago. It was fun, but I felt like it was missing something, so this being the last day of the Amazon sale, I bought the wife a copy and it's downloading as we speak.
I have had a very full day of gameplaying.

Bought State of Decay: Breakdown with the money I got from the Transistor foils I sold, and yeah it's pretty fun still.
One thing that was probably mentioned but should be reiterated just for anyone who played the game previously but hasn't for a little while. They patched in the ability to store items, including resource packs, in the trunks of vehicles.
That one single change has made the game infinitely better.

It's fortunate that sticks are fairly heavy and my arms were too numb and sore to lift it properly otherwise there would be a hole Sanwa-shaped hole in my wall from doing the goddamned trial modes in that game.

i was the weird guy who showed up with a wireless PS3 controller
still prefer it over fight pads. but it has to be a SIXAXIS and not a dualshock.
i really need to buy a controller and replace LoL with street fighter.

Oh hey, I guess I should uninstall the mod that did this since it looks like the patch has a better implementation (plus autodelivery yissss).
