I'm staying at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel - one of the last places left - it seems to have great reviews, anyone have any experience there? I have a feeling it will feel the least communal in the PAX spirit as in most attendees seem to be at other locations
We're staying here too!
It wasn't my first choice, but was one of the few hotels close by and available Thursday - Monday.
What is the deal with the Sheraton? I caved and bought a room there since all of the ones on OnPeak ran out, and I've never been to Prime before, so I'm a bit lost in the sauce.
It is the closest hotel to PAX (literally across the street). It also has some panels hosted in its ballrooms.
Is that the only advantage. Seems like a pretty ritzy place
I seriously considered it (especially for the ritz as you mentioned), but it seems to be inconvenient for certain things like the concierge service or elevators due to the higher volume of traffic.

This will be my 5th PAX so here is my quick summary of the Sheraton, Fairmont & Red Lion (all hotels I have stayed at):
Sheraton: - Modern hotel
- REALLY close to convention centre, 1/4 of a block
- PAX events held within same hotel
- Generally one of less expensive hotels
- Free wifi in Lobby, however it gets very slow - Small rooms, barely enough for 2 on bed, 2 on floor
- In room internet is an additional cost
Fairmont: - Very large rooms, almost a suite.
- Free President's Club membership provides free internet + additional facility perks - One of the more expensive hotels
- Few blocks away from convention, not too far, but a noticeable distance
Red Lion - Modern hotel
- Average size rooms, just slightly larger than Sheraton
- Generally one of less expensive hotels
- Free in room wired & wireless internet - Small/Slow elevators
- Couple blocks from convention centre, but an acceptable distance
One of the lesser known perks of booking the Red Lion(starting last year.) is their in room free internet is 50/50 mbs internet wired or wifi.(This was even with the load that PAX put on it.) That's why the RL get's my reservation since 2011. They improve facilities and amenities without charging for them.
So like many people I encountered the "submitting data" error, so I figured it was because rooms were going faster than I could book them. I tried so hard for the Hilton that by the time I realized what was happening the only hotel left was Hotel Max Seattle. I was just wondering if anyone has stayed there previously, and if anyone thinks a double occupancy (all that was left) will fit 4 people.
Also when I initially booked I did it for Thursday-Monday without realizing Monday was still a full day of PAX and we'd have to check out with all our stuff that morning so I want to extend it to Tuesday (also cheaper flights). Has anyone ever tried to extend their reservation through on peak, and have it go well?
I'll be staying at the Crowne Plaza this year, I had previously stayed there in 2012. I'm just wondering what people who stayed there last year have to say about it. Both good and bad.
I know they did renovations recently but can't remember if they were finished during PAX last year. I would also like to know how the internet quality is.
I greatly appreciate anything anyone has to say about it.

I have not stayed there, so take this with a grain of salt. But I researched Hotel Max, because I too am staying there this year, and the number one complaint seems to be that the rooms are tiny. People seem to love everything else about it. So based on that research, 4 people might be pushing it.

I think it's supposed to be part of the art deco motif: was also looking into it when planning to stay there last year, until a last minute Olive 8 space opened up and I swapped to that (I love that hotel, what can I say).

What's good about Olive 8? I got that hotel more or less at random.

Tabletop is in the Olive 8 and it is a nice hotel
Fantastic service, impeccably clean and well organized hotel room, one of the best in-hotel restaurants in that area (especially for breakfast), plus having tabletop in the hotel as of 2013 as mentioned is very nice.
To me, the Olive 8 is the best hotel for PAX: it's right between the convention centres and the Paramount Theatre as is the Grand Hyatt, but it has far less crowds than the Grand since it's a slightly smaller hotel + less event spaces converted into gaming/demo rooms.
Just released the hotel max single occupancy, happy hunting.

There have been rooms released for the Quality Inn for the full breadth of the expo. Up to 3 rooms available. I would switch over, but I've already paid my blood money to Sheraton. It will be easier just to leave it alone and let them pump my wallet

Motif? Blah...don't know who owns that hotel, but I'm guessing other properties they may own are under the "Motif" moniker?
Nope, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, it's independently branded. Also, it's a "chic, upscale hotel" that was "inspired by Seattle's uniquely progressive culture."
Translation: they're trying way too damn hard to be hip.

I just called onpeak, it will not change anything with the reservation, the same people who signed the contract own the hotel, reservations will remain the same.

If the hotel changes ownership between initial onPeak reservation and the hotel allocation transferral shortly before the actual show, would that be a potential problem?

Unless the hotel becomes not a hotel or goes bankrupt, it's unlikely, contracts are contracts, rather then pay some sort of termination or worse, go to litigation over it, they'd probably just honor the contract and re-evaluate after if they want to continue the next year.

Besides I think if they were to breach the contract, it would leave a lot of PAXers out on the curb. I don't think that would sit well with PA. After that, I doubt they would ever be given the opportunity to fill up their hotel with the throngs of PAX goers again. Talk about a severe loss of revenue.

The only thing that could happen is the real estate gets sold and someone wants to build a walgreens there instead or something. No hotel means no rooms, contract or not. It's highly unlikely in downtown Seattle, but still.

EDIT: It's gone. Enjoy Prime, guys! Maybe I'll make it next year.
Was there a cancellation fee when you cancelled?
Edit: nevermind, just read the policies..
Managed to snag it... Looking for a quad occupancy room though instead of a single occupancy.

The new company has owned the Red Lion since 2011, but is only now renaming it. So your reservations are still with the same company, its just the name of the hotel that has changed.
