Last year a friend and I ventured out to Bathtub Gin and Co. and Thread and Needle. Those are smaller quieter places to chill and drink cocktails.

Blarney Stone Pub, one of my go to places in years past. Haven't been back since they relaunched.
    Cheap eats, cold beer!

I heard there's a 'sin' tax on alchohol in Seattle, how much extra would this cost?

I can get a case of non-import beer for around or under $20 but I've heard from people whove been to Seattle in the past, that this 'sin' tax will bring my total up to around $30 for a case? Is this true?

i believe the tax only applies to hard A and not beer.

We used to only be able to buy liqueur in WA state stores. The laws changed and now hard A is available in drug stores and grocers with a "sin" tax.

Other great places to check out: Pike Place Brewery on 1st AV near the Pike Place Public Market. The Public Market has some cool restaurants and eats. I do not recommend hanging around Pioneer Square at all. Yes there are clubs and some bars there but there are rough people around there and assaults are common.

Capital Hill is closer and Bell Town has nice places as well.

Heads-up -- apparently a pipe burst at Pike Place and caused some damage at Pike Place Brewery.

Could any of you natives keep an eye on this and let us know if the place will be closed during PAX?

Not a native but I can help a little with info on this.
Pike Place Brewer is a major tourist spot given its proximity to Pike Place Market. That being said, there's no way they're going to let a burst pipe keep the whole restaurant closed for longer than a few hours. Just my two cents. Also, we could probably just try calling ahead of time.

There's a new (and only) Scandinavian-themed bar that's opened up in Hotel Andra, if anybody is staying there. It's a small, intimate bar with great Swedish small plates and a FUCKING AMAZING selection of imported & local Aquavits you won't get anywhere else because the bar has them specially ordered directly from the producers. If you want to try something different, check it out.

Thanks for the tip - I looked into the andra loft and it appears to be quite amazing. It's definitely going on my list of must-visit eateries. Now that I've found meatballs, all I'll need is a friend or two to share them with :P

I figured as much, but since that's where I'm going for a (relatively) quick bite before the Friday concerts, I wanted to make sure.
