I demand more rage in this thread.
Seriously, all of you need to be more ruffled about this. Most people are able to play, queue seems to work. The game isn't broken.
But I can't play! Dis game is doomed! Dooooooooooommmmmmmeeeeeeedddd.

The que timer, for Stormtalon anyway, is not very accurate. My que has dropped in half in the past five minutes.
Hiiiiiiiiiiii! I'm Bonepart's wife. I'm addicted to WildStar after today and I'm Hulking out over not being able to play! I have to WORK tomorrow... I gotta get my time in tonight. *sobs uncontrollably*
I'm pretty bummed about the long wait times but I completely expected it.
Eventually the queues will clear up and we will have a nice healthy server population.

Get used to it. Your best bet, seriously, is to start an alternative character on a different, less busy server to get you through the next couple of weeks.
I know... but... but... I dun WANNA. LOL I have the attention span of a gnat these days so doing the starting area content again would just serve to annoy me more. I promise not to whine TOO much.
Yes, You can have 2 primary professions, like a miner / weaponsmith, and have cooking, and farming, and something else.
Is there fishing. Strangely that was always one of my favorite things to do in wow.
Nope. They mentioned at some point that fishing is too passive for what they want in Wildstar. I think the intent is to find a way to liven it up a bit and eventually add it in, but fishing as we know it in other MMOs doesn't really fit in so it's not exactly a planned feature anytime soon.

The game has a lot of water and clearly spent some time on the water effects, so I'd expect Fishing to appear eventually.

What? But cooking isn't too passive? I hope they add it some time. I'd love to catch some alien fish.

Have you tried cooking in the game? It's uhh, not quite just click a button like it is in other MMOs, heh.
I'm sure eventually they'll add in fishing, but from the way they've talked about it I don't think it's coming soon, and it'll likely have a spin on it. Personally I feel like fishing is usually the "relaxing" activity. Like, hey, I don't want to think about doing anything but I'll sit around and fish and chat. So I really hope they don't try and make it too much work.

Nope haven't tried it. Excited to now though! And I agree about the fishing being relaxing. It was always nice in other mmos when you wanted to take a break.
I would urge everyone to not worry about server queues. They'll be horribly annoying for a day or three, probably tuesday and Wednesday, and then they'll likely be fiiiiine.

Yeah, it's a relatively minor annoyance that will lead to a better experience. People just really want to play right now because hey, it just went live. I get the excitement, but this is the truth, the queues are temporary. A month from now? Most people will likely have forgotten there were queues.
And look on the bright side, once you get into the game it's super solid, aside from some lag late last night when there were literally hundreds of people in the same area everything has been smooth. As far as launches go, I've seen muuuch worse. People just tend to forget about the negatives once they get fixed.

Yup. It's always a big deal at launch because everyone takes time off to play constantly. When schedules go back to normal, the queues will probably not exist or will only last a very short amount of time.

A que that started as 2400 just lasted about 35 minutes for me, so not too bad for Saturday nite early access.
I'm not sweatin' the queue at all. Just trying to find the most constructive use of that time. Like watching the tonight's Orphan Black and NOT watching Pranka twerk videos with my wife.
I thought about reading the stalker forum, but the I don't want the toxicity counter to hit 100 and then have to respawn and run back.
Logged out for a minute to change my audio and come back to a 3 hour queueueueue
It probably won't be a full 3 hours, 45min to 1 hr would be my guess. The estimated times are hilariously off.
But as a piece of advice, instead of using the log out buttons if you're just popping out for a second use alt+f4. To the game it'll think you disconnected randomly so your spot is "held" for a few minutes. As long as you log back in before that time is up you'll skip the queue. I'm pretty sure exiting out normally doesn't do this.

Between loads of laundry and making dinner for my son I managed to log in and create my rock dude (ArturoSlate) and do a couple of quests. Awesome graphics and fun to play but I'm rethinking my choice as an explorer since I'm not digging the whole running and jumping thing and I heard that there are jumping puzzles as part of some quests.
I may just start a new character since I haven't gone far in the game.
I saw a werewolf drinkin' a pina colada at Trader Vic's.
And his hair was perfect.
hahaha I guess they underestimated the demand for pvp servers
I usually roll on open PvP servers (and am horrible about sneaking into what should be enemy safe zones) but actually went PvE on Wildstar since I felt that between BG/Warplots/arenas there was enough structured PvP content to keep me happy.
Kind of surprised by all the people going open PvP.
If there was a option to turn the main menu music off while you're in queue, and instead make a loud noise/beep notification when you're through the queue.

I think I'm probably done for tonight... logged out for a few minutes to use bathroom / take contacts out / brush teeth and now I have another two and a half hour queue, so yeah. Got to level 11 though, so it was a fairly successful first day.

You can have 2 Tradeskills and everyone has access to hobbies.
Basically exactly this. You get two tradeskills, which includes gathering and crafting skills so miner and weaponsmith would fill those slots.
Cooking is a hobby (the only one, I think), which is separate from tradeskills so it's independent of your two tradeskills.

so far the tactic seems to be: try to lure people off the overloaded ones by offering them servers with cooler names
