I don't understand how Oddworld Inhabitants are still around. They haven't made a new game since 2005. Who's giving them money, and why?
They're only around in that Lorne Lanning is still alive. Just Add Water are the ones that have actually been developing all the Oddworld games since the franchise was revived.
I don't know who Pachter is, heard the name from time to time, but it just seems like some old dude with a really uninformed opinion about things. I mean, I watched it so it's my own fault but, I learned nothing from this, there were no predictions. Also, he seems kinda racist, lol.
At least podcasts predictions are pretty fun and amusing.
A video game publicist who may be racist against Japanese people?! NO!

He's awesome, and not racist. The legions of nerds who complain about him do it just because they love to hate. He never claims to know anything for a certainty, GameTrailers just pays him to talk about stuff so he does it. He doesn't take any of it seriously because it's not his real job.
I don't think you quite understand what a "job" is.
I laugh at least once in every one of his videos, and he makes constant jokes out of how he predicts things incorrectly, so I continue to be baffled by how outraged people get over him.
Because we expect better from them? I mean, if you're fine with sideshows and bribery, then that's cool, but I know I deserve better than that.
Why do you "deserve" better? You're not paying anything,
I do when I end up buying a shitty game because the game "journalists", who are supposed to be impartial, give it a high score because they were given kickbacks by the publisher.
If he was as awful as you think he is he wouldn't be making as much as he does.
Hate to break it to you, but there's money to be made by appealing to the lowest common denominator. What do you think pays Michael Bay's bills?
He has never, ever claimed to be a professional critic or anyone you should base purchases off. I don't know how or why you ever looked to Pachter for that.
Working as an analyst has no comparison whatsoever with entertainment and the arts. If he were wrong or a bad analyst, he would not have a job. Simple as that.
From my understanding he is wrong, and is a bad analyst, but people find him entertaining which is why he has a job. He calls himself an "analyst" but he's really closer to a "TV Personality"
No one should ever base purchases off of what he or other "journalists" say though in my opinion.
What? No, he's an analyst. That's his job and by all accounts, he's very successful at it. All the video game predictions and stuff are basically just a hobby of his.
Why? Do you want to see Dragon's Dogma killed? Cause that would be a pretty good way of doing it, given that most of the games sales were in Japan. Capcom would have to completely lose their minds for that to happen.
But regardless, that wasn't a rumour anyway. The rumour was that Microsoft have secured a "big" third party exclusive and Dragon's Dogma 2 was just thuway's guess of what it was, based on some pretty ridiculous reasons that made it clear he'd never played the game before (he seems to think it's a Demon's/Dark Souls style RPG, so thought competing with Deep Down and Project Beast was a bad thing).
Rumors I have heard: New God of War, New Resident Evil, New Phantom Dust, New Rare Project, PS4/Vita combo bundle, White Xbone with 1TB HDD, and now these Morpheus rumors.
Not sure what to believe anymore.
I could see Capcom talking about a new RE.
They've been pretty quiet about the series since 6 and I know the way they were talking it seemed like they were going to take a serious look at the direction of the series.
I don't believe that even for a second.
Not the new RE part, the "back to its roots" part.
RE6 still made gangbusters for them, didn't it? All the complaints in the world aren't going to have them back-peddle to slower-paced ammo-limited hallways where atmosphere takes priority over action.
And don't mention Revelations to me. It was a stripped down RE4 more than anything else.
It sold like 7+ million copies, and was considered a disappointment due to them having something like 800+ employees across the world invested into it.
So who the fuck knows? There has to be a new RE in development for next-gen, its a coin-flip as to what that game is going to turn out as though.
I think there's kind of a parallel with Final Fantasy XIII, in that the divided reception didn't meaningfully manifest until after the initial sales rush. It was fair to wonder whether RE5 was the new normal, or if RE6 would recapture what made RE4 stand out, or if it would skew off in some other unanticipated direction. Thus, through some combination of series prestige (such as it was) and the promise of spectacle, enough people were still willing to pull the trigger.
As 6 turned out to be a bloated mess*, I think a hypothetical RE7 wouldn't get the same benefit of the doubt; initial sales would be sluggish, and would only pick up if word of mouth was ultimately positive. It may well take a main numbered entry tanking - a visible, inescapable, and complete failure - before Capcom does any serious introspection. Someone on the inside may be pointing out that RE6 can't really escalate without going into space, which would almost certainly fall on the wrong side of ridiculous, and that some kind of reboot/return to form is necessary; of course even if so, who knows if anyone is listening.
If there's an ideal way forward, I have no idea what it looks like. All I know is, sometimes I really, really miss the old, slower-paced style. Just give me a spooky abandoned location, keep the ammo limited, don't force me to kill every last monster before the door unlocks, don't shackle me to an AI stand-in for a co-op partner, and if I'm supposed to take it all seriously then for god's sake stop giving me points.
*In spite of the many, many problems I had with RE6, I actually enjoyed how it handled combat and movement. It was fairly fluid and responsive, with a much wider moveset than previous games; complex acrobatics and evasive maneuvers weren't limited to context-sensitive quicktime events. If the series must keep its action focus, it would do well not to discard 6's control scheme entirely.

Man, I just saw the Witcher 3 trailer. Why does it have to look so awesome? Now I am sad, because either I have to go finish the terribly boring Witcher 1 so I can play Witcher 2 before I can play Witcher 3, or I have to miss the potentially awesome Witcher 3. Ugh! Game Franchises.
Famitsu.com posted a short interview with Square Enix’s Final Fantasy brand director Shinji Hashimoto earlier today, and SQEX.info were quick to translate it. In the interview, Hashimoto says that Final Fantasy XV will not be present at E3 this year.
When asked by Famitsu if information on Final Fantasy XV will be presented at E3, Hashimoto replied:
"Well, first I’d like to say that development for FFXV is going well. Internally, we try to ascertain the best timing for revealing new information about FFXV to the fans. So when we were going over our promotion plans, we judged that this year’s E3 would not be the best time to exhibit information about FFXV.
Instead we are currently planning to exhibit new information at events after E3 2014. I am extremely grateful to all the fans who excitedly anticipate FFXV, and I’m looking forward to share new information when the timing is right. I would appreciate if fans hold out until then."
Hashimoto also confirmed that information on Kingdom Hearts III will not be at E3 either. He told Famitsu: “We are are working diligently on KH3, but I think releasing new information will still take some time. We included a small part regarding the story of KH3 In the new trailer [for] KH 2.5 prepared for E3 2014, so please check that out.”

I was referring to game "journalism" in general. You asked why I "deserved better", and I pointed out that these sites should be places where you can help make more informed purchasing decisions. A task which they are miserably failing at in favor of promoting click-bait and bribery.
Working as an analyst has no comparison whatsoever with entertainment and the arts. If he were wrong or a bad analyst, he would not have a job. Simple as that.
Well, then he should probably stick with that (assuming any of his accomplishments aren't due to dumb luck).
Would it help your OCD if you uninstalled it and scoured the installer and dumped out all the save files you already have
Not really. I find it really, really hard to not pursue media in the intended order. Like, I can't watch Return of the King without first watching Fellowship and Two Towers. Which means that I've only actually seen RotK twice; every time I think I should watch it, I pop in Fellowship, maybe get through TT, but never actually have time to finish the series before whatever ephemeral and arbitrary time limit has passed and it would no longer be "ok" to just go straight to RotK, but would instead have to start over.
Same thing with Star Wars OT. Or a good book series. Or story-heavy video games. Like, I've only played ME2 and 3 once each. I've played ME1 many, many times, always with the intent of running through the trilogy, but... yup.

And there goes about 60% of the reason for me to give a care about the PS4 at this year's E3.

It is not surprising that KH3 will not be there as that game is probably just now in pre-production only.

What's the other 40%?
The hopes that there'll be exclusives (or PS4/XB1) from elsewhere that excite me. Something like Last Guardian.

Man, so pumped for Unannounced Title. It's getting so much press time.
i don't know, with so many different studios working on it its bound to be a mess. in fact i bet every time we see it it'll look like a completely different game.
I hope there are other places besides twitch that will be streaming. Twitch runs like ass for me even though other streaming sites work perfectly fine.
Nah, it's just Ubi Soft doing some outsourcing. They just don't have enough studios to complete Unannounced Title.
i keep forgetting that its a rule at Ubisoft that ever single employee must somehow contribute to the development of every single game. i guess it was only a matter of time before they started taking over other developers. The Beast Must Be Fed! The Credits Must Grow!!!

Ubisoft are like the anti-Silicon Knights. sent them a letter with insufficient postage? you're in the credits! walked through the background of a local news report? they know and you're in the credits!

Current industry thinking is sadly the opposite of common sense.

Four more days and I can finally relax
You know how EA billed Mass Effect 3 as the "perfect time to get on board with the franchise" but that was red-hot horse shit?
Each Witcher game is almost completely self-contained and will get you up to speed with everything you need to know
You can just play 3
I recommend playing 2, because it's arguably the best RPG of the past five years, but you can just play 3
Really the point is that if you don't enjoy the first game there is no compelling reason to plough through it
Is Obsessive Compulsion compelling?
Combat was probably the least enjoyable part of W2 to me.
I was referring to game "journalism" in general. You asked why I "deserved better", and I pointed out that these sites should be places where you can help make more informed purchasing decisions. A task which they are miserably failing at in favor of promoting click-bait and bribery.
Well, then he should probably stick with that (assuming any of his accomplishments aren't due to dumb luck).

I've played ME1 many, many times, always with the intent of running through the trilogy, but... yup.
It's a personal failing, I know.
This is why I don't play Assassin's Creed.
Edit:
And there goes about 60% of the reason for me to give a care about the PS4 at this year's E3.

You do not at all need to play Witcher 1.

What's the other 40%?
It is not surprising that KH3 will not be there as that game is probably just now in pre-production only.
FFXV is never coming out, though.

The hopes that there'll be exclusives (or PS4/XB1) from elsewhere that excite me. Something like Last Guardian.

I wonder if Crytek has another game on the way or it's one of the recent reveals.
I'm sad Capcom is absent from the list.

i don't know, with so many different studios working on it its bound to be a mess. in fact i bet every time we see it it'll look like a completely different game.

i keep forgetting that its a rule at Ubisoft that ever single employee must somehow contribute to the development of every single game. i guess it was only a matter of time before they started taking over other developers. The Beast Must Be Fed! The Credits Must Grow!!!
If you deliver pizza to the desk secretary for the polish marketing team, you're in the credits.

Ubisoft are like the anti-Silicon Knights. sent them a letter with insufficient postage? you're in the credits! walked through the background of a local news report? they know and you're in the credits!
A shame but they can do another one later.
