This should be a really simple answer but just want to confirm.
I bought a Rock band guitar off of ebay and when it arrived it doesn't work. I troubleshooted it extensively and cannot get it to sync so I've concluded it is broken.
I contacted the seller and advised of the problem, what I had done to try to correct it, and that i'd be happy to try anything else he suggested but otherwise would like a refund. This morning I got an email that he had refunded the money to me and it is now back in my paypal account.
Am I expected to mail the defective item back to him or can I just throw it out. I had no communication w/ the seller, just automated ebay message that my money had been refunded. Since I'm whole at this point, my inclination is to just leave the guy positive feedback and throw the guitar away, but I'm not sure if there is some expectation that you return broken merchandise.

Just ask him.
It would probably be proper etiquette to ship it back, but... meh. If the seller didn't care enough to mail out a working product, I'm not going to care enough to send it back (so long as I already have the refund in hand, anyway).
