The weaponsmiths craft the bolts but don't buy them back, so I don't think anyone does.
Maybe knowing they hold no monetary value you can safely drop them? By the time you reach that level you won't blink at the cost of crafting a bushel I'm sure.

It's generally best to drop all the white tier weapons, diablo style. What are they worth... twenty bucks at the right guy? I've got ten grand but nothing to spend it on.

    @Morninglord
Edit: Gnometank beat me to it.

I got a good one from a sunken chest next to the tiny island that lies south of Fyke Isle (that's a really fun dive).

If those are just random, you could beeline for the Griffon Schematics they seem to be the next set progression wise, I started the hunt at the watchtower (Hindhold) that is directly east of the Border Post crossing, just wander along the southern shore, guarded by harpies (I think that's the silver location, if not it'll give you a clue). I've been using that one, and just hit level 12 and can now use the first standard schem I got off a trader somewhere.

Yeah, not every quest is as obvious as it looks.

In a side street of Novigrad and come across a thug threatening a prostitute.
If you interfere, the "prostitute" chews you out something fierce. Turns out they're a couple roleplaying thug and prostitute and you're getting in the way.

I'm sure a lot of you know this already, but I figured this might be helpful for some of you just getting in to playing with the skills and mutagens. When you first look at a mutagen, it can seem kind of underwhelming. Oh yay, 5% sign intensity or whatever. Not terrible, but not great either. But you need to link your mutagens to get full effect, like so:

    EtMKxsj.png

You'll notice My right side's are all blue, and linked to a blue mutagen, and that mutagen is now giving me 20% sign intensity total, not 5%. So each skill of the same color you link to becomes an additive bonus to the mutagen. You'll notice my left side is only getting 15% attack power, because it's only linked to two red skills. Given my build, this is the most efficient mutagen/skill setup bonus wise for my play style.

Interestingly, this system adds a hidden cost to taking general skills, as they take up a mutagen link slot in most sections. There may be yellow mutagens later (I haven't found one yet), but it's unlikely you're going to end up with three general skills (though you may).

@GnomeTank can you tell me exactly where this static silver sword is please? I'm level 9 and I'm still using the viper. No matter where I go I can't find an upgrade I can craft prior to level 12.
I'm having real trouble with this weak ass silver sword and would like to know where to go to get a better one.
I've been having incredibly bad luck with random drops and loot. All I get is better steel swords. I haven't found a single looted silver sword ever since launch.

    Sure...
Have you done the quest yet where Keira gives you the Eye of Nehelani to dispel illusions? Well in that long room where you did the White Frost event, where Keira had a shield and she moved around the room to protect you, if you go to the back of that room (oppisite the exit she lets you dispel), there is a wall you can break with Aard. Beyond that is an illusion you can dispel, and past that is a chest with Maugrim, a level 6 required, 3 upgrade slot, 150-171 DPS silver sword.

    If they are level 9:
Just go to Lornruk Lighthouse. On the World Map, South-West of Norvigard. Around there are a bunch of Harpies as well as a Basalisk; how you know you're in the rightish area - though the LH is to the North-West and contains the first Wyvern. If you've fought the Wyvern it is that place. High damage, has a single slot and increased Sign Intensity. Will also begin the other Griffin quests. Highest level enemy is a level 11.

Ahhh. Well, never buy more hardware than you can afford for sure. The 960 will still be a really nice step up for you from a 7870. Especially since this game just flat runs better on Nvidia hardware right now (which is not real great, but is the reality of the situation). My laptop with a 960M (which is basically a 950++) can play the game at medium pretty easily, so a real 960 should do it a medium/high mix at 1080p with good frame rate.

I was so psyched about this game. I was prepared to love it. But.... the PC controls are just terrible. There is no way to remap the movement controls in the UI. Editing the input.settings seemed to work at first, but then wouldn't allow me to jump ,use the witcher senses, or use ESC to access the game menu. Someone remind me, what year is this?

Also, the fall damage is a bit silly.

I guess I can play with the default controls and put it on easy. This will allow for a nice interactive movie and beard growing simulator.

Any word on the due date for the first patch?

There have already been two patches. Mod community is working on control remaps, though I assume CDP will get on it at some point, as well. I just switched to controller for movement/combat and use KBAM for menus. Switches seamlessly and feels pretty good.

Seems like more than 1 point in arrow deflection is a waste of time. Even that's debatable when you can just get Fleet Footed and dodge for days, especially compared to how unreliable parrying is in general and how situational the talent is(i.e. you can dodge everything - deflection only works vs archers).

It's filler for me for now, to open up tier 2 red skills and keep a red link on my mutagen (which is worth more than any two skill points would get me at that tier).

Btw guys don't turn up your nose at resolve, the skill that stops you from losing adrenaline when you get hit. At 5/5 its 100%. Adrenaline ups your sword damage by 10% per pip. You have 3 pips, so 30%. Being able to get to those 3 pips without worrying about the occasional nick dropping your adrenaline is super strong.

    Also that sword is aces.

i had looked at resolve a couple times, yeah

also if you're slotting mutagens keep upgrading them. i had a lesser green in there that was doing +50 vitality, but i killed some more shit and got more of them. upgrade them and they combine to a proper green mutagen that when slotted gives you +150 vitality, and i think there's even a layer beyond that, for even higher bonuses.

i really enjoy having the freedom to spec lots of +vitality options in the witcher. so many battles won or lost on that final hit - if you have more health, that final hit is one more away than it normally would be.

also ran into a level 25 leshen in the woods when i was level....5? i was able to stunlock him pretty easily, but my sword was doing pretty much nothing. i spent 30 seconds pushing him backwards in a straight line through the forest until my silver sword broke (durability).

I think I may have discovered an off-label use for Cat potions.

I'm assuming that the manbat-like vampires have some sort of invisibility ability since every now and then the one I fought would turn into an outline which I would then hit or burn. Probably would be a more annoying ability if I didn't see past it.

During a sidequest with Lambert, he mentions he was friends with a Cat Witcher. Geralt says that's surprising, because Cat Witchers basically turned into hired assassins instead of monster slayers.

There's a vendor in an area revealed very early on in the Novigrad story quest line who sells them for >900 crowns (convert some of your orens and florens in Novigrad if you need cash). Zekkarian saddle bags or something like that.

Of course those are the 100 "lb" ones. There are 70 "lb" ones elsewhere. I think those are the rugged saddle bags.

Monster named mutations are for decoctions. I wouldn't necessarily call them newbie versions since you have to eg kill a werewolf. Which apparently isn't easy for everybody.
Regardless don't sell your named mutations unless you've already made the relevant decoction.

On another topic, Potion, bomb and oil upgrading is sexy as fuck.

I wasn't aware it was possible, so I stopped collecting herbs which means I've been walking past the rarer herbs I need for these later upgrades.

This is probably going to sound insane to a few people, but I love the gathering and hunting down materials aspect of these games.
I was a little disappointed that there wasn't as much need for it.
So I was really happy to realise I still need to be looking out for rarer herbs and memorising what the bushes look like.

Also I just crafted some crossbow bolts which apply a guaranteed bleed. Anything that regens is now going to be extremely unhappy.

Even that's debatable when you can just get Fleet Footed and dodge for days, especially compared to how unreliable parrying is in general and how situational the talent is(i.e. you can dodge everything - deflection only works vs archers).

Alternatively, at 3 points, you deflect the arrow back at the archer and do double damage. I've one-shotted weaker archers with their own arrows.

To say this game looks nice at 1440p ultra settings would be a gross understatement.

    I love roach.
    He's so adorable.

I had a cutscene where he totally photobombed geralt.
It cut to a long shot where the npc was talking to geralt, except Roach was standing in just the right place so that he looked like the guy was talking to Roach. You couldn't even see Geralt anymore.
As the conversation progressed it switched back to a close up of the npcs face...and Roach trotted into the background and stood there with his ass pointing directly at the camera flicking his tail at the guy.

I just run to him when I whistle for him, it's easier.

Oh and a little tip I saw on a loading screen that I found really handy.
The faster roach is moving, the harder your sword attacks will hit when riding him. Lock onto enemies so the camera is centered on them and briefly gallop as you head in on them while holding an attack. You can one shot even higher level bandits this way.

You can also axii roach while riding him to calm him down.

A little trick not in a loading screen. If you jump roach at an angle just off parallel to a cliff he'll end up going over it instead of shying away.
This is fine, because roach can't take falling damage.

I had Roach completely block my view of a side quest dialog scene. Was pretty funny. All I could see was Roaches butt the entire sequence.
