I just looked at it and I don't see what else it could be. People have very specific body language for holding smart phones these days - elbow low and close to their body, phone at mid chest height. And that's the angle they were using.
ive been wondering for a long time(ever since new sitelayout),it used to be that the text on the main page would have some talk about the comic.its been ages since ive been able to find anything like this. am i just looking in the wrong place or are they no longer talking about why they drew their comics?

When a news post is done for a comic, there will be a button that says "Txt" linking to it on the comic page. Typically these posts go up later in the day than the comic itself.
Or the "News" link at the top of the new PA site always takes you to the most recent news posts.
Soooooo, they meant it to look like some kind of device that performs fellatio right?
Oral sex device from Amazon? I'd totally buy it, although I'm not sure how it integrates with the rest of their business model. Maybe it sells your cigarettes afterwards with One-Click buy?
1st ever "Penny-Arcade Hero Academy Tournament" Toilet Bowl Champion!

I don't think it's a phone. The reactions scream sex toy. (when I looked at the youtube comments I realized I was not original with that)
I was going to go with this, but you can actually see the guy at the 3-second mark holding something looking remarkably smartphone-like due to shoddy camera work/editing.
When we actually made the comic, there wasn’t any pictures of the Goddamned thing.
Unless they made this comic like two months ago, he's wrong, because the link to pictures he has is to a render I remember seeing weeks ago. Hell, the article they're in is dated May 1.
+1

My guess is that it's a smartphone with a 3D projection screen, but I can't imagine that Amazon is getting everyone so excited over "hey everyone we made a 3DS phone"

Anybody can get excited over anything when they're paid to in a hype video.

I made a game, it has penguins in it. It's pay what you like on Gumroad.
Currently Ebaying Nothing at all but I might do in the future.
Ditto. Not seeing the comic anywhere this morning, just broken inline images.
Look, in today's competitive tech environment you have to take innovation wherever you can get it.
