Nintendo > Sony > Ubisoft = Microsoft > EA (imagine I pressed space about 500 times before EA, but hey, who has time for that?)
I'd go: Sony > Nintendo > Microsoft > Ubisoft > being forced to watch Battlefield Earth > EA
Sony admittedly had some dead space toward the end-middle of their presentation, but I think the first 50 minutes blew away the other conferences. They droned on after that first 50-60 minutes about stuff that they probably shouldn't have spent too much time on, but I think they showed the most diversity in games across the board, clearly showed the direction they plan to go/continue on (moreso than Nintendo or Microsoft), and generally just had the best stuff. At least the stuff that interested me most.
On another note: Yes, it's primarily subjective. As some have said, we all "win" this year.
But I think it's good to praise the good parts and criticize the bad parts of these conference. Qualitatively pitting them against each other may signal to Sony/MS/Nintendo what they should and shouldn't do next year.
Clearly it worked with Microsoft from last year to this year.
edit: Changed. I think Nintendo did a slightly better job than Microsoft. All three did good though.
Link has generally been an elf that's also a youngish boy, 13 at the oldest. A slightly built 13 year old boy looks a lot like a girl. DEAL WITH IT. What would be even better is if they teased with a brown grimdark filter and a voiceover saying "Darkness. Darkness never changes" then coughing with a record scratch to the normal Zelda world.
The best zelda's have been about exploration, experimentation and a child's dream of being the hero in the world.
Its probably just a billowing shirt, and Link has always been more or the androgynous side, but
Maybe? Maybe its time for Link as a lady?
They don't need to make Link a lady, just make a Zelda game.
Err...A Zelda Zelda game.
Think of the sweet, delicious tears of rage it would produce, though.
I don't understand. What's wrong with this?
You don't get how the internet works, do you.
You can bet your ass that a Zelda game would definitely bring a lot of grousing and goosery. And I would laugh at every second of it.
Personally, I would totally be up for a game with a different protagonist that therefore played differently, and Aonuma wants to push around with the Zelda formula, so I really think it could be done.
This reminds me of that time I actually saw a very interesting idea for a Zelda game (as in Zelda Zelda, with you playing as her, not... oh you know what I mean) by a dude in 4chan, once. It focused a lot on movement puzzles and riddles, and evasive combat with counters and magic since Triforce of Wisdom and stuff, with Zelda's basic item being a magic royal cape that provided partial flight (since the guy liked the whole connection with birds in SS for the royal family). I really liked the idea of "Legend of Zelda from another point of view".
People shit all over the 13-year old actress who played Rue in the Hunger Games movie because she was black. Despite the fact that Rue is a black character in the books. And wasn't responsible for casting the role. Or anything else that even remotely justified the outcry.
So yeah people will shit over anything and everything no matter how racist, sexist, or just flat out stupid it is.
At the moment I still put Sony ahead of Nintendo just for the sheer depth and breadth of games covered.
The conundrum I have now is that Nintendo is basically doing a conference that lasts the length of E3 and will continually be revealing stuff as they go.
I guess they REALLY weren't happy with the coverage they didn't receive last year and so decided to have their own E3, with blackjack, and hookers.

I thought she was white or unspecified? It's still shouldn't be a big deal for a character to be non-white if it's not significant to the plot, of course.

Shigeru Miyamoto returns to starships and animal people for a new Wii U entry in Nintendo's classic shooter series. Three levels were on hand in a small pre-E3 event hosted by Miyamoto himself, two in small arena style stages similar to those in Star Fox Command and a third showing off the game's new helicopter vehicle.
...
In control of Fox, you take in the action from two angles. On the television screen, you see a zoomed out view of the Arwing. Steering's handled with the left analog stick, pulling off barrel rolls and u-turns with the right stick. Clicking in the stick will also transform the Arwing into its land-based tank form that first appeared in Star Fox 64. The TV view is essential for steering and orienting yourself on the battlefield, but as with past Star Fox games, doesn't allow for pinpoint precision.
Enter the GamePad. On the controller's small screen is a cockpit view with a targeting reticule. Physically moving the controller around in midair moves the reticule, letting you snipe enemies hiding beneath stone archways or hounding one of your squad mates. Watching Miyamoto demonstrate the interplay between these two views suggested the same sort of awkward dual-screen play that made Nintendoland such a forbidding demonstration of Wii U's merits. In play, when you've got the controller in your own hands, the two worked in concert marvelously as intended. The gyroscopic control in the cockpit targeting felt mild, requiring only subtle movements so you won't become disoriented bouncing between looking at the GamePad and the television. I quickly took out all the enemies in the valley, and then Fox's rival Star Wolf in the second version of the arena on hand.
More unusual was Star Fox's new helicopter. A slow moving Arwing relative, the helicopter is deployed in a city where giant robotic horse tanks and a lumbering, tower-sized monster that looks like a refugee from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is stomping around. Ideal for targeting enemies directly below it, the helicopter's elevation is controlled with the right stick while steering's handled by the left and the GamePad screen lets you target at an angle below the helicopter.

Whaaat, really? That girl was amazing!
It was a huge controversy. Twitter was fucking disgusting on opening night.
Sorry, I know this is off-topic, just using this as an example to show how little progress we've really made in some areas, particularly with regard to peoples' expectations in media consumption. The Hunger Games example makes me especially upset because the chosen actor is a fully accurate depiction of the character. It's a great example of young, racist white people assuming every character is white. And also their lack of attention to and comprehension of what they read. And, of course, their racism.
My heart skipped a beat for a second when link removed the tunic. I also thought they were going with the female character reveal.
I still would prefer a game where Zelda is the main character instead of just making a female Link. Granted, the game's "canon" does technically make all the protagonists Link's descendants/ancestors, but I still consider Link his own character and not an interchangeable avatar. Either do a game with Zelda as a lead or a girl who was trained by an older Link.
That's my current stance, and it could change. There is some appeal to a girl taking up the mantle of "Link" just as like in Fire Emblem Awakening. I just think having Zelda be the star of her own titular series would be neater.
Armored Fencer Zelda (along with Midna) turned Hyrule Warrior's into a must-buy for me.

Nope.
But. On page 45 of Suzanne Collins's book, Katniss sees Rue for the first time:
…And most hauntingly, a twelve-year-old girl from District 11. She has dark brown skin and eyes, but other than that's she's very like Prim in size and demeanor…
Later, she sees Thresh:
The boy tribute from District 11, Thresh, has the same dark skin as Rue, but the resemblance stops there. He's one of the giants, probably six and half feet tall and built like an ox.

I haven't read The Hunger Games, but it's always been my understanding that the sympathetic characters are some variety of non-white and the rich nobility are white.
Really bummed Xenoblade X (?) isn't this year. Story seems to be taking a more Xenosaga approach with the absurd acronyms but I already like the potential drama of what looks like colonized inhabitants versus outer space people (Gargantia, Ideon, etc).
Haven't been paying much attention, and saw the Team Ninja logo at the beginning to much confusion and dismay. I mean Zelda/Impa designs didn't look bad... so maybe it's ok... oh hi Great Fairy.

After the recent PR problem with the animal crossing game (was it animal crossing? something like that) and not being able to play as a gay couple, nintendo is overreacting. The next zelda will be a very effeminate link and zelda will actually turn out to be tinkle in a dress.

The world wasn't making sense that day.
That was going to be my original example, but I think the Hunger Games one is more egregious. Both are upsetting, though.
Nintendo > Sony > Ubisoft = Microsoft > EA (imagine I pressed space about 500 times before EA, but hey, who has time for that?)
Man, I'm pretty sure EA just doesn't give a fuck anymore. They've had such a shitty rep for so long and yet still make ridiculous amounts of money. I'm convinced they realize they can pretty much do whatever the hell they want and that no amount of backlash will ever put a dent in their revenue.
They could probably shit right on someone's breakfast, charge $60 for it, and still make a mint.
EA's profits (in millions)
2009 Lost $1088
2010 Lost $677
2011 Lost $276
2012 Made $76
2013 Made $98
2014 Made $8
EA isn't especially good at making money a there is a reason they had a new CEO to give their press conference this year.

My Wii U gamepad just turned itself on to advertise the 30% off sale to me. What the fuck?
This was part of the last WiiU update that gave us the quickstart. When you first turned on your WiiU after the update, they asked if you wanted to leave it on (so they weren't trying to hide it.) You can turn it off somewhere in settings.

I'm disappointed they made the Great Faiory look like some weird lingiere model and not the terrifying drunken drag queen she was initially.

Gonna strongly disagree. Link is a different physical person in each game (a few rare exceptions, but you get the idea :P ), there's no reason he needs to always be male. I think it's only halfway progress if Zelda is the main character, because it's still admitting that Link has to be male.
Link is the main character and hero of the series, that's not going to be changing. Making someone else the hero for one game and making that character female is nice, but also kind of a cop-out.
But we can agree to disagree, since it's not really important. Looks like there are some cool female characters in Hyrule Warriors, super excited to play that! I hope Midna is fun, she's one of the best sidekicks. I wonder if they'll release any more info about that later today...

Ah, okay. I've never read the book, so I was trying to remember some second-hand information. Whelp, doesn't surprise me that racists are idiots in more ways than the one
I have to say, my favorite part of E3 is watching the streams live with the IRC crew. Watching a bomb get dropped is awesome; watching chat explode is god damned amazing.
So Skyrim-Zelda, that's... something. Yarn Yoshi looks amazing, as well. Bayonetta 1 coming with Bayonetta 2 is fun, and the Star Fox teaser at the end, woot.
... The lack of any Dragon Quest in the press kit means it's not coming. Kind of a pisser but I was kinda dumb to even get my hopes up for it. =/

I don't know if this was ever confirmed or just typical fan theory, but it was always my understanding that Link and Zelda are basically "reincarnated", or at least part of their essence or something. Skyward Sword kind of strengthened this idea with
Demise, who isn't Ganon but clearly reincarnated as Ganon....or something
It's all hokey anyway and they could just say "fuck it", but by that logic couldn't we also get a male Zelda?
I personally like the Zelda lead idea better. I got all giddy from that Hyrule Warriors footage, especially Zelda opening up the chest. Clearly someone at Nintendo likes the idea as well.

I agree that Link and Zelda should retain their roles throughout time, with Link as the hero and Zelda as the royal. It fits better with the overarching age-spanning story. It would be cool if they went a little wilder with them being legacy characters (though you obviously can't change Zelda's gender or the name falls apart). Wouldn't mind a female Link at all.

I will agree that it would seem a missed chance to just add boobs to Link instead of making Zelda a protagonist. I mean, various Zeldas have been, among other things, pirates, ninjas, sorceresses... you could get some actual interesting gameplay gimmicks to set the game apart from the standard LoZ experience.

Thats the OoT great fairy design so Team Ninja didn't do much there. I think youre all fast yo blame these guys when Dynasty warriors has never needed help showing tits before
Also Zelda is so happy to finally open a chest haha.
I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.
As much as I'd like a Zelda centered game or a female link, no amount of social progress is worth the sheer goosery of trying to work out theories of continuity for the Zelda franchise.

It's the same design as the N64 games?
Similar, but both her boobs combined are like the size of Link's whole body.

I would prefer a new IP instead of giving a coat of paint to an old franchise.

But we can agree to disagree, since it's not really important. Looks like there are some cool female characters in Hyrule Warriors, super excited to play that! I hope Midna is fun, she's one of the best sidekicks. I wonder if they'll release any more info about that later today...
But the story hook is built in. Skyward Sword Spoilers:
Gannon does something to interfere with the cycle, and Link is not re-incarnated. As a side effect, this generation's Zelda ends up in possession of the Triforce of Courage (or, hell, both it AND Wisdom) and has to quest to undo the seals that Gannon has set to save the world and ensure the Hero is born again for future crises.

The best zelda's have been about exploration, experimentation and a child's dream of being the hero in the world.
Whaaat, really? That girl was amazing!
"hey....that's....not where you're supposed to blow rocks...!"
this is....sure something
The conundrum I have now is that Nintendo is basically doing a conference that lasts the length of E3 and will continually be revealing stuff as they go.
I guess they REALLY weren't happy with the coverage they didn't receive last year and so decided to have their own E3, with blackjack, and hookers.

I thought she was white or unspecified? It's still shouldn't be a big deal for a character to be non-white if it's not significant to the plot, of course.

Nope.
I thought the Idris Elba as Heimdall stuff was worse.
People actually arguing that putting Idris Elba in a movie was a bad thing.
The world wasn't making sense that day.

Haven't been paying much attention, and saw the Team Ninja logo at the beginning to much confusion and dismay. I mean Zelda/Impa designs didn't look bad... so maybe it's ok... oh hi Great Fairy.
Did you miss Evil Boob Lady?

After the recent PR problem with the animal crossing game (was it animal crossing? something like that) and not being able to play as a gay couple, nintendo is overreacting. The next zelda will be a very effeminate link and zelda will actually turn out to be tinkle in a dress.
That was going to be my original example, but I think the Hunger Games one is more egregious. Both are upsetting, though.
EA's profits (in millions)
2009 Lost $1088
2010 Lost $677
2011 Lost $276
2012 Made $76
2013 Made $98
2014 Made $8
EA isn't especially good at making money a there is a reason they had a new CEO to give their press conference this year.

Ah, OK. Thanks.
I'm disappointed they made the Great Faiory look like some weird lingiere model and not the terrifying drunken drag queen she was initially.

I want him to be slow and lumbering with a huge sword and the ability to hulk out in a demon warthog form.
Basically this:

... The lack of any Dragon Quest in the press kit means it's not coming. Kind of a pisser but I was kinda dumb to even get my hopes up for it. =/

Similar, but both her boobs combined are like the size of Link's whole body.
I would prefer a new IP instead of giving a coat of paint to an old franchise.
