Or her publicist does. I'm hella cynical with celebrities showing up on the internets.
She... doesn't make enough money to have a full time publicist posting on internet game forums. If you've ever listened to her on nerdist, she's a huge gamer.
I'm not questioning her nerd cred. I'm just saying rational people don't post on GAF, I would hope a celeb would learn the same thing.
The only thing that really caught my eye from Ubisoft was Rainbow Six but I don't give a fuck about competitive MP in that franchise so it's still a giant bag of "I WANT TO BELIEVE" for me. Without a fleshed out, rich, single player/co-op aspect to it the franchise is still as good as dead as far as I'm concerned.
This gets to the heart of it for me. I'm not a huge multiplayer guy, so I'm hankering for something more like SWAT 4 - where the nitty-gritty of police procedure is kind of important, and encounters are tense because you have a half-second to determine if the suspect is going to fight, flee, or freeze - but that MP demo makes it look like just another action game with gadgets. A proper campaign would give them more creative freedom, but I'm more than a little worried it was one of the first things on the chopping block.
And while we're talking Ubisoft, I'm a little tired of open world sandbox fuckabout-ey fun in general. Feels like there's a glut of those lately, and for all their awesome landscapes and crazy emergent gameplay, too often they appear to boil down to the same boring characters (generic badasses or those who become them) doing the same boring things (killing dudes effortlessly, often with push-button takedowns) for the same boring reasons (usually revenge). Context matters; skimp on the narrative and no amount of killer elephants can pique my interest.
You're looking for story and narrative in the wrong place man. There's other way better games for that, these games are about action and teamplay. And I hope they cram as much teamplay in as possible because 2013/2014 have not been kind towards teamplay, BF3-4 were huge let downs in this regard.
I agree it would be awesome if it were a good sequel to SWAT4 though, that game was amazing because it had tons of thoughtful teamplay.
Yeah, and they've never really been about procedure either. The core of Rainbow Six has always been about the careful planning and execution of the mission. The story has generally been nothing more than a framework to hang everything else on and generally if the R6 team has been called in the "fuck it, get the job done and kill anyone that gets in your way" order has been given.
When I say I want a rich SP experience in regards to Rainbow Six, I mean I want quality squad AI, good enemy AI, some sort of system that rates your performance, and so on. I don't want a four hour bullshit tacked on campaign with crappy whack-a-mole baddies. If don't have to think when playing the game then something has gone horribly wrong.

God. I love this game. And catching all the little touches in Splatoon, such as how their hair is the shorter tentacles.. or the grafitti and such... Yeah. I could totally get behind some Jet Set Radio like painting.
Did that say TSPN?
It looks like they are in some kind of X-games like event going on, that "G2 2014" logo.

I think the points were sort of conflated here. To clarify, I'm not looking for a strong story from a SWAT campaign, merely that the gameplay reflect other options besides explosive entry and shooting every suspect. While Rainbow Six obviously focused more on planning and execution, it shared with SWAT an emphasis that combat be a brief, dangerous thing to be entered with extreme care; the addendum in SWAT's case being that combat is the worst-case scenario, and not the normal outcome.
Incidentally, the lack of a plot didn't prevent individual SWAT 4 missions from having stories. Level design, briefings, and context went a long way in establishing tone of each setting, with a lot of little incidental details; one of the briefings mentioned the timing of a diamond heist suggested insider involvement, and lo and behold one of the suspects was a dressed as an employee. Stuff like that is much harder to pull off in a multiplayer match with any degree of meaning, so that's why I'm hoping there will be a strong single player focus as well.

I also wonder if there is going to be environmental effects in Splatoon.. like.. they talked about how the ink layers, so if an area gets painted over a ton it will have a different texture. It'd be interesting to see it "dilute" or wash away or something.
So, was there any new Deus Ex news aside from that logo/image... thing that was tweeted out?
None.

Monster Hunter always looks like WoW raiding on steroids. Despite owning both the 3DS and Wii U ones, I can't get into it, probably due to not having ever gotten an established play group going.
Ubisoft needs to strike while the iron is hot with the pirates thing and just make a pirate game where you work yourself up from small skiff pirate to huge warship pirate admiral. Though you need the chanties, they were the most important part of AC4.
I would bet my entire life's savings of $73 that they are making this game right now
was just thinking this in the 3ds thread. and to think i thought i couldn't love intelligent systems any more.

I'm finding it hard to be excited about this until maybe I see a video or something. I'm having a hard time visualizing anything from just the live blog stuff...
Edit: Honestly, the title of Joystiq's article seems like the best selling point to me: "Nintendo's new IP pits Abraham Lincoln against aliens"
Ugh. Every time I hear that a game uses both the touch screen and other inputs, I have to worry about whether there's going to be a viable left-handed control scheme or if the game is just unplayable for me.

It wasn't until today that I realized that Splatoon was a play on Platoon.
I am embarrassed.

How much of what MS is demo'ing is centered around Kinect use?

That's how bad Other M was - it caused the franchise to cease to ever exist...

Do you see this Capcom? Do you see this? Kids are losing their shit over Mega Man!
I've been skimming several threads to catch up since I've been out for most of the day, and this line brought me to a screeching halt.
Tell me more, Nintendo.
Capcom cares not for your love of Mega Man when there are petty feuds to be had with former employees!
(also people were not supposed to take pictures of the Smash thing... they were super pissy about that at my Best Buy :P)
Just for that, Capcom uncancelled Legends 3 just so they could re-cancel it.
