So this is an Intelligent Systems game that merges third person action with moment to moment strategy elements where you play characters being instructed by Abe Lincoln to protect a steam punk London from Lovecraftian aliens?
Do you see this Capcom? Do you see this? Kids are losing their shit over Mega Man!
Capcom doesn't care about Mega Man.
Nintendo doesn't care about Mother 3.
Square Enix doesn't care about Final Fantasy that isn't instantly profitable and cheap to make
Sega doesn't care about Yakuza, Shenmue, Valkyria Chronicles, Phantasy Star, Skies of Arcadia or a good Sonic game
To the point that they're actively making fun of people over it in their presentations. :P
The worst thing is, there is really no way they can bring Mother 3 over without a heaping pile of cynicism.
"Oh, finally putting that game out on the e-shop, huh? $30 too? That's nice. Too bad I already played it a billion times thanks to a great fan translation. Oh, you didn't like that? Maybe you should have considered this five years ago."
Then again it could come here as a new HD version, like Type-0. Who knows.
If you haven't heard about it, chances are that Miyamoto found it inspiring during childhood and can make a game about it.
Seriously, I recall (could be mistaken) that he actually has an NDA on his personal life, specifically because half the things he does in his free time wind up as games (see: Pikmin).

I'm just saying I like Nintendo games and all but this circle jerking people do on the net to pretend Nintendo isn't concerned with finances is absurd.
Microsoft talked about listening to feedback, and Sony talked about how often their share button got pressed, but each conference spent the vast majority of the time talking about games.
I think it's trying to fit older narratives, along with the fact many of the Microsoft/Sony announcements, along with many of the announcements from devs that jumped ship on Nintendo, very formulaic compared to Nintendo's fun announcements and amazing (legitimately) ability to get people excited about entries into a generally formulaic 20+ game series.
On the other hand, yes, Nintendo is concerned about finances, but I feel like the way they presented things (especially with the treehouse and the tournament) made it feel more catered to the event itself than to the media it generated, and Nintendo always seems to play the long game (except with console hardware, which they refuse to take a loss on).

Irony: Nintendo is doing almost exactly what I wanted them to do: a new IP, made by one of their high tier development team, given the spotlight (It was the last game revealed in the direct, and Reggie hinted at a good advertising push because the game was so popular on the internet).
And it's a shooter. I'm going to get a Wii U for a goddamned shooter.

I'm fairly sure Nintendo is doing better financially than Sony or Microsoft's game divisions, and has been for a while.
I recall them really pushing the hype of how well the Wii was selling, but I can see wanting to keep the lightning in a bottle running as long as possible.
Anyone wondering whether or not that new R6 game has a single player mode should watch the post-conference bit that Ubisoft did. The guy presenting the game is the AI director and he is specifcally asked if single player is planned for the game. He pretty much states that he wouldn't have a job on the game otherwise and that they showed what was ready, the story mode is still in development and will be kept under wraps for some time.

Good thing SquareEnix has that whole "HD remake of a FF game I've never even heard of" nailed down. Really makes it easy to not pay attention to their ongoing trend of "all flash, no substance".

To be fair you probably have heard of it.
Remember way back when at E3 2006 or so when square Enix had the bright idea of announcing 3 final Fantasy games?
FF13 and FFvs13 exclusive to the ps3 and FF Agito 13 for mobile and psp?
Well this is FF Agito 13 coming to home consoles in America renamed without a psp or vita version apparently.

Good news! Mega Man is in Smash! New Final Fantasy on 3DS! Nintendo's take on Valkyria Chronicles with STEAM!
And still no Mother 3.

If Final Fantasy Explorers for 3DS is anything like a mana or crystal chronicle game I will buy it and sleep with it.
Looks more like Monster Hunter.
Which is fairly crystal chronicle-esque.
A third person shooter/strategy game that is very reminiscent of Valkyria Chronicles.
Steampunk, set in London during an alien invasion, and possibly Boston, and Lincoln is somehow involved.
The aliens are said to be directly inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft.
Comic style that is reminiscent of Elite Beat Agents.
Comic art direction stated by Miyamoto to be inspired by the silver age of comics, directly citing Jack Kirby in particular.
Like, what the hell, man? How has this happened? Never in a million years would I have expected to hear of such a game. Coming from MIYAMOTO.
Almost sounds like a Nintendo take on XCOM.
