Irony: Nintendo is doing almost exactly what I wanted them to do: a new IP, made by one of their high tier development team, given the spotlight (It was the last game revealed in the direct, and Reggie hinted at a good advertising push because the game was so popular on the internet).
And it's a shooter. I'm going to get a Wii U for a goddamned shooter.
It's about the only shooter I'm willing to play anymore: Nonviolent, colorful, with a very "fun" atmosphere.
IS is already developing a WiiU game in FExSMT, so i doubt nintendo would want them to produce another one given the problems they've had with getting those out the door on time. also the FE:A team has experience with making good 3ds games, so probably needed to roll them onto something?
Anyone wondering whether or not that new R6 game has a single player mode should watch the post-conference bit that Ubisoft did. The guy presenting the game is the AI director and he is specifcally asked if single player is planned for the game. He pretty much states that he wouldn't have a job on the game otherwise and that they showed what was ready, the story mode is still in development and will be kept under wraps for some time.
Another game I have to buy. The next 12 months seems more densely populated with great looking games than ever before.

Good thing SquareEnix has that whole "HD remake of a FF game I've never even heard of" nailed down. Really makes it easy to not pay attention to their ongoing trend of "all flash, no substance".
To be fair you probably have heard of it.
Remember way back when at E3 2006 or so when square Enix had the bright idea of announcing 3 final Fantasy games?
FF13 and FFvs13 exclusive to the ps3 and FF Agito 13 for mobile and psp?
Well this is FF Agito 13 coming to home consoles in America renamed without a psp or vita version apparently.
...nope, not even a tiny clue what that is. Must've really set the world on fire, unlike some other FF games people have been clamoring for SquareEnix to remake since... forever.
even if they were bringing those games over and the announcement was tomorrow, reggie isn't going to say anything. nintendo is notoriously tight lipped on these matters.

True. Didn't Reggie accidentally reveal Fire Emblem Awakening when someone asked him about it and he let it slip? I seem to remember they had to do a really impromptu press release the next day. Probably not going to repeat that mistake.

So guys, Nintendo just introduced, at E3, four new IP and they seem to be heavily vested in making them a success. Splatoon, Code Name S.T.E.A.M., Project Giant Robot, and Project Guard.
Now the two Miyamoto projects seem more like very early prototypes of game ideas, but Splatoon and Steam look to be amazing, especially Splatoon.
Between Nintendo and Sony, they have made this probably one of the best E3s in several years.
My most definite favorite thing about E3 is Bayonetta 2. I was never one of the ones that raged about it being on the Wii U, outside of just worrying that Nintendo might try to include some kind of arbitrary gimmick as they are want to do, but they didn't thank god.
Still, I can't help but wonder just what these guys could do with a Bayonetta game that pushed the PS4/XB1. First quoted post is about half an hour of footage.discussion, second quoted posts are just gameplay. If you watch just one, I'd pick the first video of the second post, its a boss fight that eventually has a lot of stuff going on in the background.
I know this E3 has kind of been all about what's coming out next year, but I guess I'm just lucky because most of the stuff I'm really excited about is coming out before the end of this year, and oddly all on the Wii U or 3DS.

You never heard about it because it never left Japan.
People weren't asking for a remake of it, people were just asking for it to release in a language other than Japanese.
I will say this, E3 this year has ticked me from never buying a WiiU to seriously considering a WiiU.
You can say that again. Before this E3 I was kind of "I guess I'll have to buy a WiiU eventually for Smash and W101", but now it's more like "oh god, I shouldn't buy a WiiU because I'd go broke trying to get all the games I want".
WiiU is now a very reasonable system to own, and I think Nintendo are going to be juuuuuust fine. I don't really give a fuck how their long term plans for the console are going, there's enough games that look awesome on WiiU now to justify me buying
Fuck you, phone, that last post would have got me lots of 'Awesomes' and now I can't remember how I phrased it and the edit button is too tiny to do shit about it.
It's too bad that Splatoon is so far away from release - the word of mouth on it and the press it's getting is crazy. It would have been great if they could have stuck while the iron was hot and had it ready for a summer release. We watched the digital event last night so my wife and kid could see Zelda and Yoshi but in the end they were the most disappointed that Splatoon is so far off - they were both super impressed by it.
It could be a legit system pusher in the Wii Sports way where you try it at a friend's house and then immediately want one for your house too. It's the super approachable, fun at parties type of game that Nintendo is so great at crafting.
Sales of the thing did spike by 666% for Mario Kart 8 in the UK, and 82% of those sold, were Mario Kart 8 Bundles.
I also really like their whole setup at E3 this year. It's been fun looking forward to "whatever Nintendo is going to show next". Now that they have a lot of things to show off.
Bayonetta 2, Hyrule Warriors, and Smash Brothers are definitely the things I'm most excited about for the rest of this year, and X and Zelda are by far the things I'm looking forward to most next year.
oh shit type-0 is coming to ps4? that's supposed to be good right?
According to the Final Fantasy thread, this is the biggest travesty since the Holocaust
You have no idea how excited I am now to check out that thread. Here's me for posterity - "how bad could it be?"
Pff not even that bad - lot of skepticism about how much work they will do in the port job and some complaints about it not being on the vita - but I just wanted to play it and I have a ps4 and no sony handhelds so all problems resolved forever basically.
the reason it was a controversy is because sony announced that the game was coming to psvita and then almost immediately after unannounced it. their pr people fucked up huge. people don't like it when you tell them you are getting something then take it away.

I just like that it's basically Nintendo having their own little E3 off in one corner of the convention center.
Imagine if Sony or Microsoft had done the same thing and just had a constant stream of information about all the different games they were showing.
I really, REALLY like Nintendo's approach the last two years - and it was essentially the same last year. If the media are going to ignore them, then they are going to use E3 to talk directly to gamers and retailers. And that means bypassing the normal channels. No big live conference (Saving money), just a distilled info dump followed by live coverage of the games, basically setting up a digital version of "Nintendo Power." Oh, and since it's worked so well in the past, keep announcing new games throughout the week so that attention stays on them the whole time. I can't wait to see CodeName: STEAM in action.
I think the main thing Nintendo got right this year was the streaming part itself. Besides the odd disconnect, which is pretty standard for any kind of stream, it's been pretty solid, so people actually get to see all the interesting stuff they have to show. Last year, I couldn't watch the Direct because the stream was lousy, and that put people in a bad mood from the get go, even though the games were mostly fine.
They basically had Tuesday all to themselves, so they could go balls to the wall in terms of content. And no one else is doing continuous-flow info. Of course, it's all contingent on having good games to show, and they had quite a few good ones, aside from the missing stuff like Pokken Fighters or the SMT x Fire Emblem game. And Splatoon is pretty much the surprise hit of the show.
Eh, there's a level of production that goes into most regularly viewed Twitch streams that isn't really possible with the console twitch streaming services yet. Which is why the top viewed PS4 stream right now sits at 700 viewers, the top XB1 stream at 78 viewers, and the top PC stream at 60000 viewers.
Not that reggie didn't say a silly thing, but I can understand looking at those numbers and deciding it's not worth the engineering resources.

I think that he's talking about just randomly streaming gameplay, but I don't think he's considering the other output that can be attached to it. Commentary or even text chat while streaming makes all the difference, and I think they could make that happen.

Actually, if you read the whole thing, he's saying that he's in favor of people making a proper production (as the big streamers do), but he doesn't think it's a compelling feature for people to dump raw gameplay footage on an audience. I have to agree, as any twitch stream I watch has at least an overlay and other components like a compelling player on video or speedrun info to the side.

Nothing to announce. E3 officially ruined. :P

It is? Dammit, Square. FFXV better be good, too. Then I have a good reason to get a PS4.

Don't worry, as with everything else internet related, Nintendo will understand in around five to ten years.
