So, Splatoon is 60$ here, in the united states. Is it less expensive in Japan/Europe?

I might have to pre-order this for Scattershot Jr. Popping the shield and mowing down fools was great.

I didn't even notice I never tried any weapons except the Splattershot and the Splattershot jr. Didn't get much paint coverage with the former, but duking it out with the other teams seemed like it was easier for me than my teammates with rifles and rollers. I wound up in a decent group of players and just trailed/led with a roller guy most of the time and we would clean house.
Not on the map as a whole though, which kept things really interesting. Sticking together makes it easy to steam roll opponents, but hard to get good map coverage, and one guy with a roller can do a lot of damage really quick if you don't keep an eye on the map.
My kingdom for a map ping. It's rough when you glance down and spot a huge area getting steamrolled and nobody else notices.
I'm starting to get a hang of the standard Splattergun, I think, although I still have a tough time intuiting its max range. Shield is so much better than Bomb Rush, though. Bomb Rush feels worse than just shooing people most of the time. I guess it would be better with timed bombs than balloons...
I wonder how high the paintbrush will be able to fling paint.
Would you guys like it if, hypothetically, they eventually added cosmetics based on their other franchises? I myself wouldn't mind rolling out in a team-colored Link hat, for example.
Only if the abilities attached to the gear are relevant to the character.
For example, the Link hat gives your paintbrush the ability to repel evil.

Bomb Rush is great as the timer ticks down. Push into an area the opposing team mostly controls and just throw as many bombs as you can as far as you can. Managed to squeak by in a couple rounds because of that.
Really fun game. Can't wait to play the full one. Hopefully there will be more testfire times.
I never figured out the trick to using the secondary weapons but I was doing pretty good just running around with a giant roller in front of me. Tried the splattershot as well but twitch shooters aren't really my thing. Even still, I won a round to go with the one I lost.
I was the leader in all the games that I played (I think?) except when I would be on a team with another player named Logan. Then it was really close between the two of us. He seemed to be the Conn of Splatoon.
I think people don't realize how good the paint flick ability with the roller is. Had quite a few games with more than 7 splats because people couldn't deal with the jump and flick.
I got one-shotted by that attack so many times. I had no idea it was as strong as it is. I got very little use out of it when I played roller yesterday.

I really, REALLY hope Nintendo releases statistics on these things.

I dunno, the balloon rush seems pretty aces. I'd get that and paint entire rooms in seconds and wipe out anyone who got in the way in the process.
One of the neat balancing mechanisms in this game is how the super weapons are tied (I think?) to how much ground you paint. The more behind you are, the more ground there is left for you to cover, and the quicker you are to get your super weapon.
I've noticed I've had to get wily with the paint roller this session. Yea, the splatter jr when you get the shield is an "OH SHIT!" moment for rollers.
You gotta treat the roller like a shotgun, and also your primary job as a roller is floor control...
That said... I've been getting like 9 to 12 kills consistently in matches because I've managed to sneak or outright win firefights, many times 2v1. Paint flick can double kill if they are perfectly side by side. Also, as a roller, if I can kill 2 rollers and trade myself (survive is better) in the act, its almost a guaranteed win for my team because I shut down so much paint.
I had one fight with on the Oil Derrick where two super soakers took the high ground crates and it was a meatgrinder, then I thought, "Wait... they are pushing 2 and 3 guys to keep the high ground and they aint moving off... Ok, I'll take everywhere else and won the war.
I have to say that I didn't even mind the lack of communication in this game.
You could quickly see where your other teammates wanted to go in the beginning and when you ran into another one swimming around, it was easy enough to group up for awhile or sort of acknowledge that it would be best to split the map up.

I think the 3 minute timer helped with that. Because matches were so fast, any deep strategy just seemed.. inherent. Everyone knew what to do and where to go, and when people needed backup.
The only times I felt like we were completely at a loss was when someone dropped.
I think knowing the maps really helps. After I figured out the ways to get around, common hiding places, etc., things just started to fall into place. The maps are small enough, but also have enough separate areas, to feel like you're always contributing. The warp mechanic helps force conflicts and lets you quickly get to an area that needs coverage.
The length of the matches really feels good too. If one team is getting completely trashed, it's only a few minutes until the board is reset. Smart design overall I think.

Yeah, I paid 40€ for it.
I still want it, but I don't know how I feel about that. And on top of that, checking around Europeans who downloaded the Global Testfire thing get it at a 10% discount, while there is no equivalent discount elsewhere. I wonder why.

The secret to winning for me was making sure to cover the entire starting area in paint. All too often my teammates would charge toward the center and leave whole percentage points uncovered.

Yeah, I was thinking that 3 minutes seemed really short going in, but it works.
It usually feels like the matches are actually longer while playing.

The charge/sniper took some time to learn, but it ended up my favorite weapon. It's the fastest painter if you use the right sight lines. It's great to rush to an area at the start of the map too. Then you can lock down an area with your range.
I think the counter to the sniper will be hitting the area behind them (while you dodge), so they have no way to back up. Then move in for the kill.

I got the £39 (or less) Amazon preorder with the squid amiibo. I think that's about $60 but I don't remember if you guys get the dollaction figure.
Our 60$ thing does not include an amiibo. I can't find any pre-orders on Amazon that do but they might be store specific.

It was at least 3 matches or so before I happened to glance down at the gamepad and noticed, hey minigame!

Like: the roller, way too much for my own good; the Splattershot Jnr. because coverage and shield.
Need to get better at: the Splat Charger – I get it in principle but finesse is hard. Really want to try the "real" sniper rifle in the full game.
Not so hot: regular Splattershot – something about the accuracy/rate of fire/coverage balance feels way off to me.
I think I recall seeing different combos of the Splattershots and subweapons in the trailers? I'd like it a lot if one of them was the Splattershot Jr. and the sticky mine.
As far as I can tell, weapon loadouts are always sold in lots of three, but there are probably multiple Splattershot Jr. configurations. There's no way every combination will exist, though.
Can't decide between disc and download. Totally prefer digital, but I still need to get a new HD because the music skips and cuts out in all games that run off it, Splatoon included.
This is finally unacceptable. dat soundtrack.

This time I ended multiple rounds with 10 splats each because I kept having the bubble charge up at the most perfect moments.

Never would have guessed there could be such a thing as a casual FPS, but Nintendo just invented it. Beautifully.
