Thanks blankspace for the new OP!

Yeah...since I'm actually interested in the game and enjoy the comic I'm making a better OP.

The Darkness: I Believe in a Thing Called Dark
DK08.jpg
The Darkness is a FPS based on the cult comic of the same name. It stars Jackie Estacado, a made man, who's family is blessed/cursed with the power of the darkness. Each generation has a keeper of the darkness, however when he impregnates a woman he is killed, passing it onto the next generation, who's powers manifest on their 21st birthday. Jackie's 1 day away from his 21st birthday.

Game Features
927014_20060815_screen004.jpg
Being a first-person shooter you'll be able to fill all of your blam blam blam needs. However the game's true draw is the Darkness powers that Jackie wields. You won't be able to use these in any brightly lit enviroments, but in the dark things get a bit more intresting.

927014_20060502_screen016.jpg
The first use of the powers is the summoning of Darklings. These little bastards come from the souls of your dead enemies, they provide many uses different uses. There's interrogation, meat shields, ceiling ninjas, even suicide attacks.

927014_20060502_screen001.jpg
The second is the use of Dark Tentacles. First off, "lolihentairaperape" there, happy I got that out of the way aren't you? Anyways, the tentacles spring from Jackie's back and basically let you fuck shit up on a very high level, they can smash, crunch, throw and/or impale anything from random goons to cars. ALos, they are an effective bullet shield.

927014_20060502_screen008.jpg
The third is the use of Maw Tentacles. They are the smaller, red-headed step-brother of the Dark Tentacles. They can be used for more sneaky melee attacks, you can also stretch them and use their eyes as your own and scout ahead.

927014_20060502_screen003.jpg
The fourth and final(Final at this time, these are only the known abilities there may be more.) power is the use of Black Holes. You open these little doohickeys and anyone in the room gets sucked in and eternally trapped in Hell.

Other Information
It's coming out on the 360 and PS3, sorry no waggling tentacles for you!
There are multiple multiplayer (See what I did there?) modes, the most interesting being where you play as not Jackie and/or other random gangsters, but as the Darklings. There are also traditional FPS multiplayer modes as well.
It releases sometime this summer.

BONUS FEATURES!One of the little things in the game is that you can watch full TV shows,Movies,Or even the news! I quess I'm not the only one who needs to know the exact If theres going to be a chance of Light showers when I'm about to go to a Base and kill some mans.

is this the game where all the trailers show you killing a bunch of weaponless construction workers?

    I thought that was weird.

"look out!! he doesn't have a gun!"

It is possible to use the spacebar after typing a punctuation mark, right? Apparently so.

Anyway, the game looks alright. Nothing revolutionary, but it looks well-made.

I hope the darklings keep their sense of humor from the comics.
And I saw the begining of the game the other day (where they are in a car chase) and I was really impressed with it.

yea, im probably going to be spending most of my time in this game watching tv. =P (you guys forgot about that in the OPs)

Also, I thought the multiplayer is class based in all matches (you can be goons or darklings).

Oh, that's sooner than I expected. Is it just me or are game publishers starting to understand that it's not necessarily the best idea for everyone to try and launch their game during the holiday shopping season? Game releases seem a bit more evenly spread out over this year than in previous years. Of course the holiday shopping season is still going to be the time where the most games are released but it seems better this year.

I agree that its nice to see some big games coming out in June. July is barren as always though, which is disappointing.

I hope the good people at Remedy are taking notes on how Starbreeze is putting in TV shows. Max Payne 3 needs full-length blaxploitation detective shows and frilly English dramas to watch as you pass by a TV set.

The Darkness is such an odd property to work with, considering there are maybe three comics with the character published a year.

But it's a property with potential.

Throwing cars is one of my favourite things in any videogame. The bulk of my time in Hulk UD was spent throwing cars at things. It is immensely satisfying.

I loved the comic and Im looking forward to this game. Im a little dissapointed that you dont get to see his whole chiton/armor deal from the comics but the new style kind of grew on me as well. Game Videos has this little bit Opening bit NSFW (thanks Kotaku!) which made me just a little more excited for the game. The Starbreeze folks are working on it, same folks who did the Riddick game.

I have a feeling Butcher Joyce will be a favorite among people after playing the game, Im pretty interested in hearing the voice actor for him. That little bit is just random thinking though.

It's not voice actor, just plain actor now. They use the same people for the mocaps and the voices because they wanted to add realism. So the body of every character in the game is the body of the actor who voices it.

Not at all. The man who is giving the mocap is having his voice recorded at the same time. We see his body language and hear his voice, the only difference is we get computer textures instead of seeing his face. For all intents and purposes he is acting.

Problem there is that generally voice actors probably won't really know how to physically act. So you get the borderline retarded hand movements pretty much every character has...

Except they hired actual actors for the game. People from OZ, Six Feet, and other successful series. The Darkness itself is bodiless, so for it they hired someone who's known for his voice, a vocalist from a metal band.
