I just read the Avengers: Infinity trade and it awful, in that there are huge gaps of story missing between issues.
A book should be able to stand on it's own without forcing the reader to switch between another book after each chapter/issue.
What this feels like is that 90's shit where comics don't continue their stories in the same book. (e.g Part one in Amazing Spider-man, Part two in Spectacular Spider-man, Part 3 in Web of Spider-man, etc. )
This is worsened by the fact that the main Infinity series trade doesn't even appear to be available by itself, so if I want to read what happened between issues, I'll need to buy the collected series.
Which includes the Avengers: Infinity and New Avengers: Infinity.
The problem is that you are viewing Avengers: Infinity as a story arc. Its not. Its side stories for the Infinity Event, completely skippable content for people who don't follow The Avengers, and extra content for what the Avengers are doing for people who do. The way Marvel does Events is that the Event is contained within a single line, be it a selftitled book (such as Infinity) or a mainline book (like how Amazing Spider-Man is the main event for Spider-verse). All other titles then act as side content to flesh out the individual characters with their own series that are taking part in that event.
This is how they've done events since House of M. It is very much not 90s style events.

My stance is that if it was released on its own, it should stand on its own. Ending an issue on a cliffhanger and then completely skipping what happens next is bullshit and shouldn't ever happen. If they wanted it to only be read with the main book, it shouldn't have been released on its own.
Sadly, this is how the big 2 have been collecting their event titles since 2012 or so.
DC has been much worse about it; they're constantly doing those 90s style events where you have to read 4 or 5 monthlies to figure them out. Marvel only does them occasionally, mainly with the X-books.
It's a little different for Infinity, though.
It's weird because Marvel's collected editions just blow. They frequently are priced higher than the monthlies to try and drum up more people buying single issues, they usually only have 4-5 issues now, and then you get stuff like Infinity where Avengers: Infinity has 2 issues that the actual Infinity collection doesn't, but the Infinity collection overlaps with the rest and is the only way to read the actual Infinity event.
I know a lot of people bitch about the way writers would write for trade a few years ago, but I think that's kind of a better way to handle it.

Well I'm not going to buy the collected edition, even if it means buying the main book in singles for a higher price.
After I've finished reading this event, I think I might have to drop these Avenger Books, because I really don't like the way they're trying to trick readers into paying for content twice in the trades.
I promise after Infinity there are no more crossover events until you get to Time Runs Out, and it looks like that story is being collected in a much more reasonable manner.
Wait, there's no Infinity trade, they put it in the Avengers and New Avengers trades?
That is weird.
There's an Infinity trade. Amazon has it. The Hardcover has the whole thing, and the paperback version was split into two volumes.
EDITED FOR CORRECTNESS
That Amazon link is pointing to the UK two volume collection when you click on paperback, for some reason, Here's the US Paperpack: Link.
There's no paperback of JUST the Infinity series, you HAVE to pick up the the one with the relevant Avengers/New Avengers issues in it, which as discussed before, misses out on two Avengers issues (#12 and #13) unless you double dip and grab the third Avengers trade, which has issues #14-17 in it. It's dumb, but appears to just be really poor planning on Marvel's part. (Though it's not the first time they've done this. The Ultimate Universe event "Divided We Fall" was missing two issues of Ultimate Spider-Man compared to the equivalent trade.. which would have been fine, but they didn't release any of the Ultimate X-Men or Ultimates stuff separately (in the US at least) so to stay current on the Ultimate universe, you'd need to double dip.
Thankfully, Marvel seems to have not goofed up like this since Infinity, so if we're lucky they'll have learned their lesson.
I think there's two different paperback versions. One has all the Infinity/Avengers/New Avengers stuff, and the other is two volumes of the same material.

Ah yeah, there it is. Again though, that's the UK version (You can tell because it's published by Panini Books.)
I could have sworn there was a UK release that was just the miniseries. I'll try digging a bit more.
EDIT: Either plans changed from when I read them years ago, or my memory is completely shot. I'll adjust my post then.

It's a national holiday today here in Australia, so I can't go to my comic store to check if they have the main Infinity book issues, so I'll try tomorrow.
However because they're old issues from a popular event I'm guessing they'll either be out of stock, or marked up and end up costing me at least a total of $45AUD
REALLY hope Marvel doesn't pull this shit again.
EDIT:
Found all 6 issues of Infinity
Yay
At two locations
Boo
5 were at the same spot and I got a $3 discount for waiting for the first comic store to open
Yay
The remaining issue was on the other side of Melbourne in really remote location, where I feared getting mugged

Uncanny Avengers #1 was alright, better than I thought his first issue of the previous run was. Makes me remember that I need to read Remender's Brother Voodoo, that was the best part of this issue.
I have a feeling everything from the recent New Warriors is going to be ignored with the High Evolutionary here.
And of course Simon's not dead. Or maybe he is. They did kill him in the first issue of Force Works, and they can just bring him back after Secret Wars.

He's an energy construct. At this point, killing him is like killing Ultron. He'll just reform a few arcs down the road.
I just realized that the woman at the very top left there is Captain Marvel, and it strikes me that her costume would probably look pretty good in Ross's style.
I'm guessing Ultimate Thor is coming back for Secret Wars?
Probably, was one of Hickman's favorites in the Ultimate verse

Haven't finished reading Infinity but I did read volume 1 of Electra on the train home today from an interview.
I know the reveal at the end that Cape Crow has precog, but I still feel it's pretty shitty that he was able to beat Sabertooth, Taskmaster and Bullseye at the same time. Not only that but sending Electra to go after him, and having her be the one to defeat him just doesn't sit well with me.
Also the Bloody Lips character is waaay to op. Are his abilities supposed to be temporary or permanent, because if it's the later then fuck that shit. Why hasn't he eaten the entire universe yet? I'm sure he could have have gotten blood samples of Hulk or Magneto etc.
Other than that the story was interesting and the art was beautiful. It's just those things in the spoiler that left a bad taste in my mouth.
Today, the Battleworld map revealed the zones for 2099, Egyptia, Hala Field, New Quack City, New Xandar, Perfection, The Regency, and The Wastelands
2099 - "MARVEL 2099! In the year 2099, the Marvel Universe proves that there will always be a need for heroes. In this dystopian future, society is ruled by corporate entities and it is harder than ever to rise above the status quo. But there is hope in a new age of Marvels. Jump through time to the year 2099, and see what lies on the horizon for your favorite heroes. Discover more."
Egyptia - "FOREVER YESTERDAY! The new Sphinx uses the power of the Ka stone to alter reality to his own choosing, and the New Warriors find themselves in a world where Egypt has ruled for thousands of years. The Avengers are led by Captain Assyria, and their main foe is the Mutant Liberation Alliance, a group of freedom fighters led by Magneto, Juggernaut and Sebastian Shaw. Discover more."
Hala Field - "CAPTAIN MARVEL! Hero! Pilot! Avenger! Captain Marvel, Earth's Mightiest Hero with death-defying powers and an attitude to match, is back and launching headfirst into a new role - Squadron leader of the interstellar defense team, the Carol Corp! Discover more."
New Quack City - "HOWARD THE DUCK! Cry fowl! Trapped in a world he never made, the quirky, downright filthy Howard the Duck is set to take a stand and quack at anyone who gets in his way. Discover more."
New Xandar - "THE INFINITY GAUNTLET! For Thanos, the Infinity Gauntlet was the ultimate prize to be coveted above all else. With it came omnipotence. Now, it's up to Earth's super heroes to make a desperate attempt at thwarting this mad god's insane plunge into galactic self-destruction. Discover more."
Perfection - "AGE OF ULTRON! Ultron has taken over. Armies of his all-powerful drones patrol the wreckage that once was New York City, destroying every living thing in sight. Together, Wolverine and the Invisible Woman will make a last ditch effort to save all of existence, but will their time-travel mission end up tearing the timestream apart? Discover more."
The Regency - "ONE MORE DAY! In his darkest hours, Peter has always had one person who'd remind him of who he is...now, he's about to lose that person. What would he do, what would you do, if you only had "One More Day"? Discover more."
The Wastelands - "OLD MAN LOGAN! In the future, Logan lives a quiet life. That is until an old friend shows up to ask a favor of him. On a journey across America, the mutant Wolverine will become a hero once again... Discover more."
The singular form of "Corps" is "Corps." Assuming "Corp" in "Carol Corp" is supposed to sound like a military formation, like the Green Lantern Corps. "Carol Corp" makes it sound like a business corporation.
So Secret War is basically going to be plucking characters from certain arcs at a certain moment in time?
From certain arcs is the best description. Some are 616 events that happened in the past (Armor Wars Iron Man, Civil War) and some are alternate realities (Age of Apocalypse, Marvel Zombies) and have them all duke it out for 8 issues + minis before a new 616 returns.
It actually feels to me like House of M, where all of the comics interrupted for this alternate universe Event which will shape 616 for the next year and a few franchises for the next five or six years.
Stupid snowstorms and their keeping new comics from my lcs.

Not only that, but
Ultimate Reed is still his evil self, and has killed 67 earths without anyone knowing, and on top of that in the 616 world Gladiator and all the Infinity allies realize Earth has to die to save the universe.
Good stuff.
