I need to either finish college or start over and then finish college.
Long story short: I was academically dismissed a long time ago. I think 2002. I started working and managed to get into corporate work. I've been in some business/finance related job for the past 11 years.
Not having a degree is starting to bite me in the ass despite my resume and experience, which is extensive.
I'm trying to understand some things:
1) I'm not sure I'm eligible for re-admission to the school I was in long ago. I will be going to the college on Monday to discuss possible re-admission with a counselor. If I am found ineligible (I really tanked hard), what does that mean? Does my academic dismissal from college so many years ago impact my eligibility at other colleges? What happens to my credits from the original college?
2) University of Phoenix/online courses. Are there eligibility requirements? Is this "as good" (accreditation-wise) as going to a brick & mortar college?
I just want to fix my mistakes and move forward with my life. Not sure what I can do. Thoughts?

Even if they don't let you in, I would maybe talk to a community college and see about the possibility of transferring to state afterwards.
Good luck getting your stuff sorted and remember: Success is never ending. Failure is never final.
It's possible, depending on how bad your transcript is, that it could be a negative influence on admissions (either to the same school or a new school). That should be partially tempered because of how long ago it was, but schools might want to have an idea of how you've changed, so maybe try to take a couple of courses at a local community college, just to provide proof of recent course performance.
It's possible the credits would transfer to a new school, but again because of how long ago they were, they might not be eligible for transfer credit.
2) Online courses from a reputable, accredited institution should be identical to actually going to college. In many/most cases (again from reputable colleges) there will be no distinction at all in your degree between the online or on-campus program. A school like the University of Phoenix might not be the best option as there is -- at least among people I've talked to -- a widely held view that it's not much better than a degree-mill.
Assuming that's Community University of New York go get over to ESC.EDU right now.
If you're going for a business degree they do that very well and they will walk you through all the stuff about transferring credits and assigning credit to the decades worth of work experience you have.
I can not stress enough you should be looking at Empire State College for this. It is practically the reason they exist.

Find one near you, go.
Do this.
New York hi5!
Bro, I was academically dismissed from a SUNY twice. I appealed and immediately got back in. I sincerely doubt CUNY holds blood grudges. Talk to the advisor and convince him that you've matured and de-fuckup'd yourself and I am sure they'll welcome you back.
