who is amanda palmer and why do people keep reacting negatively to finding out it's her
Amanda Palmer basically does a lot of terrible shit under the guise of being an artiste and it's obnoxious.
As mention earlier, she got backup musicians and didn't pay them until people yelled at her enough. Oh, did I forget to say that she's married to Neil Gaiman? Like...Sandman Neil Gaiman? Even if we assume she personally didn't have the money to pay those people (which I call bullshit), I'm sure she could have worked something out with her husband to compensate those people if she found herself underestimating the expense.
She did a whole album about conjoined twins who were abused but eventually found success as musicians (or something like that, it's been a while). That seems potentially okay...until you see the stage performance in which she and another person dressed and acted as the twins on stage in a move of exquisite taste. She also whined when people called her out on it.
When the Boston bombing happening, she wrote a godawful poem about the Boston bomber. She admits it took nine minutes to write, and it really just came off as her trying to get attention. She also tried to spin the thing as her brilliance when people wrote (better) poems mocking her.
There's more, but fuck I can't remember it all.

I really love Mission Statement. It's kinda cheating how much of it is just Judy Blue Eyes though.
The style, since about 1960, has been to use a single-space after a period; it’s fair to say this is the working typographic standard. The adoption of that standard by major style manuals more or less codifies the single-space into law. And if you have any doubt, check your own bookshelf; you’ll be hard-pressed to find text with double-spaces after periods.
Contemporary typographers and readers are accustomed to tighter text. The period and the following capital are considered sufficient to alert the eye that a sentence has ended and a new one is about to begin. Designers tuned to the single-space standard see gaps in the text that disturb the visual flow.
But the double-space is a tradition that abruptly faded not so long ago—certainly within the lifetimes of many of today’s active writers. Though no longer in standard use, the emspace may be a simple sacrifice to industry. Given that context, along with the facts that typewriters and digital typography are largely irrelevant to the discussion, it becomes difficult to argue that the double-space is simply “wrong.” It’s not difficult to imagine that typographers and readers once looked upon those gaps as welcome sentence separators. Designers who wish to produce authentic historicist work should consider using the double-space after a period.
Your typesetter will remove double-spaces from your manuscript; that’s a simple fact. Though writers are encouraged to unlearn the double-space typing habit, they may be heartened to learn that intellectual arguments against the old style are mostly contrived. At worst, the wide space after a period is a victim of fashion.
the thing with the handy video is that Al apparently had roughly zero budget for these things and literally just called in favors with other comedians and funny video people he'd worked with before and/or any internet comedy place willing to make the video in exchange for being able to premier it and maybe get some of Al's fans to become fans of their sites
tacky was the nicest looking video so far but probably the only part of it that cost any real money was putting together the super-long tracking shot
Clearly Handy was going for a bad local ad look, but I think they missed the feel of such a thing. Some effects were bad but not bad enough and looked out of place.

I've seen a surge of articles on this topic lately, including an obnoxiously hostile one by Slate.
People linking that article was what inspired me to find the dozens of articles citing history going back beyond 1960 that make that one look so ignorant.

That is one hell of a sentence (and I even cut off a bit at the beginning).
But on the same subject, I really hope that the people Al contacted about "My Own Eyes" were the actual Foo Fighters. And the video is just them lip-syncing to it like it was one of their own concert videos. Dave Grohl seems like the kind of guy who would love to do that.

The combination of Dave Grohl being a really rad person, and the Foo Fighters having had a lot of good videos in their career, makes me really hope they're involved somehow. As you said, it seems like something they'd actually be up for.
Their video for White Limo was great, and it was basically just them dicking around with an old camcorder (with a few references to Journey's 'Separate Ways' video). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Z3nBokjZyE

Has anyone mentioned how every video has been on a different website? Nerdist, then Vevo, then CollegeHumor, now Yahoo! Screen. Its kind of neat to me to see him get everywhere.
I'm guessing Funny or Die will be coming soon. Wonder where else.

Since Al did a voice on the show and he stated on twitter that he thought the person who did the edited polka medley videos was doing a great job, I am actually kinda hoping (but understanding that it's probably not gonna happen) that he managed to get Hasbro to do a pony video for him.
I thought I had kicked the music for a while, but tonight my brother hadn't seen the two most recent videos and then Weird Al did a performance on Conan of "Tacky" and now I'm listening to the whole thing again.
In no particular order, I think my favorite songs from the album list is converging on Foil, NOW That's What I Call Polka!, Tacky, and Jackson Park Express.
1. Jackson Park Express - You're my answer to everything / which is probably why / I'll do very poorly on the written portion of my driver's test
2. Foil - the whole register shift thing really works on me for whatever reason
3. Tacky - this is just a really well executed parody I think
4. NOW That's What I Call Polka! - I like all the modern polkas going back to the Alternative Polka, and this is one of the best. I might rank them later.
5. Word Crimes - I could flip this and the polka around, probably.
6. Inactive - I think it's a good sendup of this song
7. Mission Statement - having worked a big corporate job until a few months ago, this hits a bit close to home.
8. Sports Song - still wondering what game I will hear this first this fall
9. Handy - I literally didn't know "Fancy" was a thing until it came up at trivia last week, so it was kind of funny to see this leading off the album. I like it better than I did on Monday, but eh.
10. My Own Eyes - they nailed the sound, but it's still missing something to me
11. Lame Claim to Fame - Eh.
12. First World Problems - I don't like how the Pixies sound, so this doesn't do anything for me at all.

Confirming this. Sorry, it's just departmental policy.

The Foil video started with a close-up of Al, similar to the Royals video
Word Crimes definitely got down enough key elements from Blurred Lines, like #YANKOVIC and Al's big dictionary
The Fancy video is fantastic but for some reason Handy takes nothing from it

Also the strongest polka since Angry White Boy Polka
Full of so many great lyrics though.

Also his Radioactive parody was a good reminder that the original is hella boring.

I tried sounding them out in my head, but it was just Weird Al singing
Honestly I'm just waiting for the revelation that Dave Grohl played drums on it
probably played guitar and backup vocals as well.
