Since it is, in part, coming from the Funny or Die crew, I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up looking a lot like this short they did several years ago.

One thing I saw in an article that I didn't actually know before is that Al, along with Michael Jackson and Madonna, is one of only three artists who have had a top 40 hit in each of the prior 4 decades.

    That's not nothing.

I'd have thought the Beatles too, but maybe they missed out on the 80s

    yeah, top 10 albums in the 60s, 70s, 90s, and 00s

Lennon died in 81 IIRC. They were solo long before then.

EDIT: so the 2000s release was probably "1" and the 90s release had to be Anthology?

yeah, but between the original Let It Be, the Anthologies, and Free As A Bird, it was a good amount of new(ly released) material. but I don't know the qualifiers. I'd be surprised if the Stones didn't qualify too

His episode on Behind the Music was apparently so boring they had to embellish the Coolio mixup, so I earnestly hope it plays up Al as a megalomaniacal diva constantly strung out on exotic moon drugs. Bonus points if it ends with his tragic death.

Weird Al is the priest at the funeral.

Then Real Al wakes up in bed and is like, "It was all a dream!" And Patrick Duffy comes out of the shower like, "It sure was baby!"

If it's just an even more absurd Walk Hard type quasi-parody infused with Al's bizarre sense of humor, that's about all I could ask for.

In one of the many weird al things I've seen they explained that not only did Coolio personally approve the parody, but he got a huge paycheck too.

Coolio can do or say whatever he wants to appear...cool.

My understanding is that Al or his "people" talked to Coolio's "people" and gave approval, but they didn't actually check with Coolio himself and as such, Al only goes directly to the artists himself any more.

Yeah, but kinda in reverse. Her people insisted in seeing the lyrics and a recorded version first, so he cut a family vacation short to be able to do it, and then they said no.

Since it was already recorded and ready to go, he released it online for free, encouraging people to donate the Human Rights Campaign.

And then she found out about it because her people apparently didn't even get her input at all and said she loved the song and gave him permission to put it on the album.

Conversely, Weird Al realized he had made it when he was at a social event, and interacted with Paul McCartney there.

Apparently he saw Paul, and took a moment to compose himself and gather his courage to go say hi and introduce himself.

...during which Paul saw him, and audibly reacted with something along the lines of "Oh my god, it's Weird Al!"

Completely threw him for a loop.
