He always puts on a great show. I'd estimate I've seen him in concert somewhere around a dozen times by now.

He's got a real skill at making shows feel smaller and intimidate regardless of the actual venue size.

He's also such a nice guy.

It's the first time I've seen Albuquerque live (well, performed by someone other than @The Geek, anyway) and that was probably worth the price of admission alone! Fortunately he did many, many other songs over 2 (!) hours. This was my third time seeing him and it was by far my favorite.

He played this at the Rochester show of this tour, definitely was a contender for favorite song there for me.

UHF was one of the first Al-bums I ever bought and getting Biggest Ball of Twine live would about have been the one thing I would’ve geeked about more than what I did get.

Seeing weird al live is on my bucket list.

I am starting to be doubtful of achieving it though, what with not having money, COVID, and well, he ain’t gettin younger

You were at the Rochester show? Me too!

I did the VIP thing and got Al to sign an original poster of UHF. He said he thought it was one he actually made in his garage cause it had a bunch of the colors messed up.

Recently a friend of mine was digitizing all the original film footage that we shot for the "Eat It" video, and he came across this "coverage" take. I'm pretty sure NOTHING from this take got used in the final video, but I still thought it was stupid/amusing enough to share.
    damn, Al was flexible

I love the camera doing a whip pan every couple lines, in case that's where the editor would make a cut.

Also I was probably around a year old when he shot that. Good grief. No wonder Al was limber, he wasn't even 25 yet.

I don't know if he can quite still do it any more, but even in fairly recent years, a leg behind the head was a standard part of his concerts.

Biggest Ball of Twine: I'm consistently cracked up that they're not even going to see the biggest ball of twine in the world, merely the biggest in Minnesota (and driving through several states, all presumably with their own biggest balls of twine, to get there).

Someone's student project was making a video for this, and it is incredibly well done -- and they didn't wimp out when it came to that section, either:

Oh, this was the other one that was a contender for favorite song he played.

I shamefully admit that I had not heard pretty much any of the songs that were played, but I adored all of them and it was a fantastic show.

Thanks to long summers driving tractor with nothing but a discman to keep me company, I used to have most of Weird Al's discography up to Running With Scissors memorized. I'd sing songs on request to keep morale high on long bus rides to band trips and the Science Olympiad. The best was when I timed it so the whole back of the bus was yelling along to the "Gimme an A" section just as we came through that bit of Tijeras Canyon where you see Albuquerque all spread out ahead of you for the first time.

Impressive. I can hit the note in the original octave fairly comfortably, but a 22 second hold of said note is another story.

"Weird Al" Yankovic had a brief role as a thug who holds the police at the precinct at gunpoint. In the scene, he says, "Okay, Pigs, say your prayers!" followed by an oblivious Frank slamming the door open and knocking Yankovic's character to the floor. Yankovic said it took more than twenty takes to get the scene done, and that after about sixteen takes, his leg had turned "a nice shade of purple." The stunt coordinator asked Yankovic at that point if he wanted to wear some padding. Yankovic also recalled that O.J. Simpson felt sorry for him.

Looks like we're gonna miss out on the Raleigh show. Was waiting to see how we'd handle our 4yo, but now that she's got her vaccine the show is sold out. :/

Probably for the best; the odds of her behaving the whole show were slim.
