    New rune color breakdown

    Bk3OtKd.png?1

What's going to happen with Runeslots in gear going forward?

    Taken from Nexus Report Livestream

    Twitch link: http://www.twitch.tv/wildstar/b/557396007

    Alternative link for transcript: http://dulfy.net/2014/08/12/wildstar-nexus-report-livestream-qabig-changes-to-rune-attunements/

    Rune Revamp

    • Player don’t like the random slots on gear. We are going to tier out the number of slots based on the quality of the item.
    • Previously blue item can roll 1-4 slots and there is a lot of variance.
    • From now on, dungeon/adventure blues will always have 3 slots but they will be random types.
    • Green items will have 1 random rune slot item.
    • Crafted/world drop/vendor blue items will have 2 random rune items.
    • Players still have to deal with the random rune slots they get. We will add a new item, which allow you to reroll one type on your item. If you have 3 slots on your item, you can reroll each slot once and once only. Rerolling give you a choice of two new types of slots and you can never reroll the first type of slot you got. Say the first slot of an item have an earth type slot. If you reroll it, it will give you Fusion or Water for example and never Earth. If you are still not happy with the rune slot you rolled with this new item, you will have to reacquire that item again.
    • Items will have the ability to have slot upgrade. Another new item will drop from different type of content that can be used on an item to unlock one additional slot. Purple and orange gear have two additional slots unlocked with this new item.
    • Crafted gear will 2 slots by default but can be upgraded to 3 slots. Adventure/Dungeon gear have 3 slots and can be upgraded to 4 slots.
    • Current gear is unaffected, we are not going to reduce the number of slots you got. You can upgrade existing items with more slots up to the maximum number of slots it is allowed. So if you have an existing dungeon drop with just 1 slot, you can upgrade it to 4 slots.

    Attunement

Players get stuck with dungeon silvers – the timers are difficult. We don’t want silvers but instead we are dropping the silver requirement to bronze requirement (complete all optional objectives and kill all the bosses without a timer)

World boss – we are going to revise this step to make it easier for players to get through.

When players complete Genetic Archives step, the additional step to collect 300 primal patterns to get into 40 man raids will be reduced from 300 to 100.

    Q&A

Q: Day skylight option for housing so there is always daytime?
We can talk to our teams and get it in

Q: Why are AMPs/ability points still so rare after the fix?
We are always looking at drop rates. We do have some stuff in the horizon to make the drops better.
Trigger Fingers – its drop rate was similar to other AMPs but was used by every spellslinger. Its drop rate is pretty good right now after the 3 fixes and right now in my server the price for it dropped from 30 plat to 1 plat.
Currently dungeon boss have 20% chance to drop rare AMPs, this will be increased at a much higher rate to help spellslingers with Trigger Finger

Q: Will we be able to turn our housing plugs?
We need a smooth system to handle this as currently it is very complicated

    Q: Interactable seats in housing?
    Patch 3

Q: New racial houses in the future?
These things take time away from other stuff. We would like to and we will in time but it is not in our short time list.
Q: Plan to attach attunement to account instead of specific to each character?
It is complicated since you are dealing with different factions, servers etc. We have tools to do this but not in a clean way.

Q: PvP weapons are >> PvE weapons even for PvE situations. Is there a scale down of their SP/AP?
You can’t PvE runes into PvP weapons so you are missing out a lot of power. GA 20 man raids will have more powerful weapons.
We are considering of maybe scaling some PvP gear power with your rating.

Q: Do you see preserving player skill in wildstar’s telegraph-centric mechanics as more important uber, skill-trumping loot? We need to balance the two a lot. You need to be able to dodge telegraphs and have gear that allow you to take some hits from telegraphs.

Q: When are you dropping customizable terrain for housing? Like snow covered grass
We have a design and everything in place to make this work. We don’t have a specific drop date but it is in the near term.

Q: Reason for level requirements on tradeskills and housing plot fabkits?
We didn’t want alts to become accessories for primary main characters. If we get a lot of feedback if people are against this idea we will reconsider it.

Q: Cleaned dye to remove dye color?
Yes, we will add a bleach dye soon. There are a lot of things we are doing to the costume system in the next 6 months. The issue is that sometimes designers color an armor piece different from its original color so when you bleach it you may not get the color you desired back

Q: Explain elder tiers? There is no easy to way tell item level right now
We will be adding effective item level to every item in the next couple months.

Q: Will drop rate of epic gear be increased in dungeons/adventures?
Probably not. We are happy with the current numbers. We are talking about ways to acquire purple items outside these instances currently.

Q: Ability to give soul bound dyes to alts or make them account bound?
We have the ability to do this but it is not clean currently. In the future it is possible.

Q: Any chance for PvP elder gem items since max level PvP grant elder gems?
Nope, we like to keep PvP gear on prestige right now. There is something called a Burden of Optimal Play where players see an item they like, they find the fastest way to acquire that gear. If we put stuff on elder gem vendors people will stop doing PvP and hate the developers for it.

    Q: Big picture for housing/décor?
Yes, we have big plans for housing/décor. We have a smaller group housing system called communities for 5 players with a skymap that is shared between them. It is coming soon, but not right away.
Option to dye décor – it doesn’t look good and to change decors to fit the dyes better is a huge amount of work. In the future we will pursue an active décor option

    Q: Barbershop, when?
This is something we are investigating right now. We are thinking of allowing the Stylist doing this and maybe add some new styles. It doesn’t mean that it is coming online soon though.

Q: Crafted CW4 adventure weapons have different specials – only Engs and Warriors get the impact special which make other class specials obsolete. Anyway to balance this?
We are looking into these things and updating these specials soon.

Eh, any guild which actually raids can 4 man the silver timers and literally attune anyone they feel like anyway. This change hurts people who are attuning themselves together, although I guess some people prefer wiping as 20 rather than 5.

And the silver dungeons are actually excellent for preparing people for raid fights. They teach you to keep moving, to pay attention, to have enough dps and make sure the healer has enough focus regen to keep going without too many stops. They are likely to make mistakes the first time they see a fight, but they are also likely capable of being consistent rather than running at something until they suceed. Raid fights are huge sticklers for consistency, much like silver and gold runs.

The actually annoying attunement steps are in order, primal patterns (dumbest ever) and world bosses. remove them and it's fine.

And the thing is, if a guild is attuning you specifically, they either already know you'll work out or they'll figure it out as they're attuning you. As it stands, if I approach a guild while attuned for 20 man I can point to my own attunement and say "well I'm at least this good."

After bronze changes that will no longer be the case, because instead of proving I have consistency and a modicum of focus regen, and ability to execute a silver, I'll instead be proving I can run veteran dungeon bosses until I succeed at least once.

The silver requirement didn't actually do what people claimed it does, even in this thread.

Here is how people were doing it:

1)A person in a 20 man guild had 4 run with the new guy to get them through quickly. At that point the silver requirement is both redundant and useless. Useless since 4 good players who know what they're doing can carry a bad, and redundant because if 4 people from the same guild are running with a newbie, it's called a "trial" and the guildleader won't give a fuck about some shiny silver medals, but what those 4 people say about the new guy. But to make things every so much worse, it tends to be the same 4-6 dudes running with all the new would be recruits, so those 4-6 people start to burn out and needed to be replaced when they do.
    2) As an extension of the above: people were selling silver runs. The fact silver runs were being sold means that you can't accept the validity of a person who did the silver medal attunement on their own, since they could have been carried, meaning you'll have to trial them anyways.
    3) 5 newbies grouped together grinding their faces on the silver attunement requirement. This is probably the most valid test of skill, but it was a source of people getting stuck(since the majority of the group needs to know what they're doing), and causing burnout.

People doing 3) take forever and burn out, people doing 2) undermine the value of the requirement in the first place, and 1) undermines it and makes it pointless in the first place. Getting rid of it has more benefits than it has downsides. People will have to go back to trialing people, but frankly, guilds had to be doing that in the first place, and a basic trial to see if a recruit is a waste of everyone's time is both easier and faster than the silver requirement was, and most likely more effective to boot.

Hey I am Def not a super star, I just spend more time researching than playing :/

Silvers are truly a good gate for raids. Going to copy and paste what I just posted on reddit comparing group one spending 12 hours to finish a dungeon and group 2 "skipping and exploiting their way trough a timer"

"The first people you describe did something involving only 5 people to finally synch up 'getting lucky' and succeed.
The latter are doing everything humanly possible to find a way to succeed.
The second group is more skilled in that they will improve themselves untill success. The former will continue to fail the same way and getting 20 people to synch up getting lucky will take exponentially longer than 12 hours."

This is no shot at anyone here BTW.
The problem I have with this line of thinking is that it ignores the DPS checks built into the dungeon bosses themselves. If your group doesn't have the DPS to beat a boss, you will not luck into winning the fight, period.

The other thing is that as the player base grows stronger, there will be people who inadvertantly get carried through through silver runs. At the beginning of Wrath, Heroic Nexus took 40 minutes for a good, organized group to clear. By the end of Wrath, I could carry 3 crappy DPS through a 20 minute run of Heroic Nexus. If I really wanted to, I could farm plat, and pay some high end raiding guild to carry me through the silvers right now. No attunement system is going to completely stop crappy players from getting through.

    So the real questions are...
Are there raid quality players who are being held back by the silver requirement? Yes, I have very limited windows of time where I can know that I will have 30 minutes of uninterrupted playtime. If I try to silver a dungeon outside those windows of time, then there is a high chance I will end up having to say something like, "Well, my 9 month old just vomited everywhere, my wife in freaking, and my daughter is going postal, If I don't intervene, someone will end up in to hospital." does Hallmark make a " Sorry I just effed up your silver run" card?

Is the silver requirement creating some toxicity in the PUG environment? Absolutely. If you are still trying to learn the fights, you will get kicked buy groups trying to silver, and the first wipe will result in finger pointing and disband votes.

Are players leaving the game because they feel stuck and unable to progress? Yes. Note, I don't feel it is necessary for these people to ACTUALLY progress, but people need to feel like they have a chance of getting into something bigger. The moment people feel that something is impossible, they quit. It is a very delicate balance between making a game that is challenging, and pushes players to become better on a sliding scale, and a game that is a ghost town because the bottom 80% of the player base gives up.

I have tanked, healed, and DPSed in raids since BC. I remember a friend telling me how hard the Dark Portal stage of the Kara atunement was. When I got to it, I just about laughed, because it really wasn't that hard if you had a halfway competent group. I got the Safety Dance achievement in NAX in wrath(That requires you have an entire raid not eff up), so I can safely say that I know how to not stand in the fire. I know I am fully capable of being a solid raider, but I took one look at the current metagame on silvering dungeons, and I said eff it, I will go do something else, because I have better things to do with my free time than deal with that drama. So anything that lowers the potential drama for a phase of attunement while keeping the overall difficult of the game intact is a plus in my book. Now if they had kept the silver requirement, but nerfed the dungeons to make them easier, then I would be right there with you.

Finally, if someone lucks their way through attunement and gets into a raid. I don't think it would take very long before any competant raid leader will figure out they need to get booted, and if you want to be more exclusive as a raid leader, you can always say that people need to silver dungeons before joining your raid, because after all, they didn't lower the requirements for silvers.

Edit: Addendum: Also, with this change, you will have less guilds with 18 people looking for 2 more to be able to raid. Right now, there are groups of people who would rather be wiping on GA due to that one idiot than not raiding at all. This change will give people the option of "Do we try it with one or two iffy players?" vs :Do we just not raid at all?"

Seriously, this is a great change and I don't get why anybody would argue against it, EVEN though it means more 'un-qualified' people will get raid attuned. Since times immemorial this has been dealt with easily and efficiently by guild leadership.

Personally, I'd be okay with keeping silver requirements IF they go through and fix all the exploits people were using to make them more trivial so you actually have to do the dungeon properly.

And somehow detect those people that used exploits to get them and remove their credit.

If they don't want people exploiting things don't make it so damn easy to. Honestly, when I need to run these dungeons 40+ times each and more for ppp/better slots on gear etc I will take shortcuts if they are available. But these things are not necessary to beat timers anyway, they just help make farming faster.

It's been pretty up and down from what I hear. Some people keep getting pushed back while others get fixes (for things such as authenticator/phone troubles) within hours.

I don't see how helping people through content they couldn't clear so that they can attempt harder content than the stuff they originally couldn't clear is going to help this game.

At best it is a minor bandaid to make people feel like they accomplished something before they slam face first into another wall.

Changing the medals is not a mistake per se, but it ain't the bad part of the attunement. But apparently they are looking at world bosses too, so the worst pre 20 step might take less time as well.

You're assuming it's not in their long term plans to tune down raids or go to a tiered raid system, both things I think are very real possibilities if subscription numbers start to lag. Frankly, it's a lesson they should have already learned from that other game, but so much of Wildstar was built to please that very small subset of "hardcore xtreme" players that they have to now tread carefully on how they go about it.

I mean, yes, I am wondering very strongly if this will eventually morph into a modern MMO

But given all other factors remaining the same, removing one brick wall to allow access to the next, taller brick wall seems silly

It'll give some people some very brief feel goods as they make a small amount of progress, but they are almost immediately in the same situation they were in before this change

That said it is interesting watching the entire accelerated lifespan of the hardcore MMO playing out in front of us

exactly, this is my main point & problem with this update. lowering to bronze is all well and good, but if the problem they're trying to fix is people being frustrated & burnt out by the wall that is silver dungeons, they're not doing those people any favors. they're going to hit that same wall & be just as frustrated slightly later on in raids.

So I think I am about to start binge crafting some things.

I want to amass two sets of gear - one where every piece is at least 3 slots, another with balanced stats.

The way the new rune stats layout, and the fact you can change each slot once to something different, means its impossible to have useless slots. Because at least for warrior, only one element is completely useless (logic) the rest can at a minimum, give AP or Brutality. Brutality also getting a buff to not be all that far off from AP now.

But I want a set of balanced gear because they might make those other stats good with the rest of the changes. I want to be prepared.

It's certainly convinced me that I am both too old for that kind of game now compared to my younger WoW raiding days and that I would prefer to have a more fun payoff for my grinding and time investment then wall after wall of arbitrarily limited content.

It made me feel fuzzy inside before, taking down bosses with friends after nights of trial and error. Now it makes me angry or frustrated at the lack of progress (or perception thereof), or just the un-fun nature of certain mechanics constantly punishing you for minor fuckups.

Yeah had a feeling that would be the case. Basically the new additions for just stats are showing up a lot in sets that they would make sense in.

Goes along well with the fact that it will be extremely unlikely an item will be screwed on runeslots, and the differences will be minor like they were supposed to be.

As a warrior, basically if it has logic slots you reroll them and they become anything but, and at the worst you put a non set brutality on it. which is much better after the AP changes that are coming. And you have a good chance of being able to have a set there anyway as now it can be fire, air, earth, or water and you get assassin or weapon specialist.

There are basically no other moneysinks anyway, so they kind of had to make it fairly expensive.

It does take some time to learn it though, although the infinite frustration of needing 10+ copies of an item before you get acceptable slots might lower to 3-4 with the new additions.

There are basically no other moneysinks anyway, so they kind of had to make it fairly expensive.
Clearly you don't care enough about housing.

Well yeah, housing can burn money like nothing else. Should probably learn to play the AH if you want to pimp your house perfectly :P.

If I could play the AH then rune costs wouldn't matter much either. :D

For the first time I'd seen on Stormtalon the other day, a Dominion Angel Statue showed up on the AH. It's the same statue you see in the churches. I'd been wanting one for a while, so I threw down a plat and change as a bid and actually won it. That made my night.

We have a group and the guild is still around. Not sure who is in charge of it. We'll get you a group invite, at least you can hang out :)
