I've been rewatching Lost with my girlfriend (who had never seen it). She's enjoying it, but it loses so damn much when you can't excitedly discuss all the latest nonsense with people.

What I'm mainly getting from it, is that the last two series may as well have been from a different TV program.

Still, we just watched Lockdown, which is the only episode I remembered by name. So delightful.

    * The running time of the episode on DVD is 42 minutes and 42 seconds.
    * Emilie de Ravin's character, Claire, is finally named in this episode.
    * Kate tells Jack that she is a vegetarian, although on the previous episode ("Tabula Rasa") she appears to be eating eggs and bacon at Ray's house.
    * However, this could be a lie for the sake of convenience, or simply for the sake of lying.
    * Sawyer calls Boone, "Metro." (Nicknames)
    * Shannon calls Boone, "Captain America." (Nicknames)
    * Hurley calls Sawyer, "Jethro." (Nicknames)
    * While talking to Jack about going into the jungle, Kate says she isn't interested in hunting wild boar because she is a vegetarian. In "Tabula Rasa", she is seen eating eggs and bacon for breakfast at the farmer's house. (Deceptions and cons)
    * The running time of this episode on the DVD is 42 minutes and 42 seconds. (The Numbers)
    * The Beverly Hillbillies: Hurley and Sawyer are scuffling over peanuts. Jack breaks up the fight and asks what is going on. Hurley says "Jethro here is holding the last of the peanuts." Jethro Bodine is a fictional character in the 1960s television sitcom. (Movies and TV)
    * Rose's firm belief that those in the tail section of Flight 815 survived turned out to be true. (Archetype)
    * It is revealed that Locke couldn't walk before the crash. (Plot twist)
    * Locke says patience is the hallmark of a leader. (Leadership)

Wait, I thought Sawyer called Jack "Metro".

Edit: Ah, I see. Jack runs in immediately afterwards, but it was Boone that was telling them to break it up.

Nope, just watched it two days ago, it's Boone.

    Fits Boone way better, too.

It's a handkerchief, but yeah this is why I thought Sawyer was referring to Jack.

Let me tell you a story of coming out of the shower this morning

immediately after washing and drying myself, as I was dealing with my teeth and face and shit, my back started sweating bullets, so hard that it was actually dripping onto the floor. I eventually put my shirt on just so I wouldn't drip. (deserves mention that it's been really fucking hot up here these past few days)

So if I was on a tropical island, I'd want something to absorb the sweat off my neck.

I, too, have disgustingly outpaced the Rewatch Podcast and am now at the beginning of season four.

I am definitely not *actively* watching but still, goddamn you Klemkin.

LOSTPEDIA HIGHLIGHTS for episode 1x05, "White Rabbit"

When Charlie runs to get Jack at the start of the episode, he says that he doesn't swim. However, it is shown later, in the episode "Greatest Hits", that he was taught to swim as a child. Also in "Greatest Hits", Charlie claims to have won the title of Junior Swim Champion in Northern England. He also successfully swims out to the Looking Glass station in the season three finale. It is possible, though, that Charlie was simply lying.
    * Charlie tells Jack that he can't swim; it is later revealed that he is an experienced swimmer. (Deceptions and cons)
    * Locke: "I looked into the eye of this Island and what I saw was beautiful." (Eyes)
    * According to Sawyer, Boone took over his place "at the top of everybody's most hated list." (Isolation)
    * Sawyer refers to Shannon as "sticks," and Jin as "Mr. Miyagi." (Nicknames)
    * Both Jack and Kate have 4 distinct cuts on their faces. (The Numbers)
    * "Strawberry Fields Forever": A line from this song by The Beatles, "Living is Easy with Eyes Closed", is tattooed on Charlie's arm. (Music)
    * The Internationale. "We'll live together or we'll die alone" is a line from the English (Billy Bragg) version of this famous socialist, anarchist, communist, and social democratic anthem. (Religion and ideologies) (Music)
    * In Jack's speech to the rest of the survivors at the end of the episode, the dialogue included the name of two future episodes, "Live Together, Die Alone" and "Every Man for Himself". (Foreshadowing) (Regularly spoken phrases)
    * Jack had been told all his life by his father that he didn't "have what it takes"; on the Island, Jack finds out that he, in fact, has it in him to lead the Losties. (Juxtaposition)
    * Sawyer and Shannon bargain for some insect repellent. (Economics)
    * Sawyer trades his last two bottles of water to Jin for a fish. (Economics)
    * Sawyer tossed Kate Edward Mars's badge, telling her that she was the "new sheriff" due to her aggressively pursuing him about the stolen water. (Leadership)
    * Charlie decides to take care of Claire. (Leadership)

A funny thing about especially early Lost, is that most of the characters seem mostly put together and in charge whenever the episode isn't about them but completely meltdown into their personal issues whenever their flashbacks are featured.

I have super cooled on the Rewatch podcast now that this week's has revealed that Max is one of those people that thinks every season is worse than the last one and the ending is awful

I don't know if I want to listen to a weekly show from people where one of their perspectives is that

Spoilers for season 3 through final season
I wish they had done just one more Ben Linus episode so we could have had a few questions answered, such as:

When Juliet first comes to the island, she is told that of course Ben likes her, because "you look just like her."

Who is the woman Juliet looks like and what was her connection to Ben?

What ever happened to the little girl who was friends with Ben as a child? Did she get off the island before the Dharma folks got killed? Did she get killed by the Others? Did she join the Others and die of pregnancy?

Or was all of that made irrelevant by the time travel shenanigans and "the Incident?"

And if you want to say they didn't have time to do another Ben episode, here's a thought: cut one of the Sun/Jin flashbacks.

P.S. By the last season I was really mad that we didn't get Titus Welliver for a whole season as The Man In Black and instead got more Terry OQuinn.

pretty sure your second question answers the first
and for Ben, I prefer the mystery of not knowing what happened t oher. just that something bad happened is enough.

...and nothing was ever made irrelevant by time travel in the series. whatever happened, happened

omg Max Temkin mentions my Leftovers theory on the latest podcast

I choose to believe it's specifically my idea that somehow made its way to him (I tweeted it at Patrick and he responded to me, and also I put it up on TVTropes)

That the event in The Leftovers was due to the cork coming loose on the island for a couple minutes.

The timelines even sort of match!
