Ronnie, Princess Bride is pretty much a 100% perfect film for what it is trying to be.

then it should have aimed higher

again, I like Princess Bride a lot, and Andre the Giant is a wonderful man who deserves all the love in the world

but there are so many great movies on par with it that don't get nearly as much love

Yes, but he makes motions like his arms are cannons because they basically are.

Shawshank Redemption is a god damned amazing film and everyone should see it.

Between the Matrix and Princess Bride, I'd say it depends on what your audience wants to watch.

If they're in the mood for a funny light-fantasy adventure with some romantic interludes, Princess Bride is a great choice.

If they just want to watch a crazy action movie with some themes about what IS reality, then the matrix is your bet.

The matrix has probably aged worse, as it's a action movie totally mired in the late 90's, with lots of black leather and special effects that were so revolutionary that they were quickly copied and run into the ground. Princess Bride has held up a lot better IMO.

It did aim high? I am confused. I don't see how other movies not getting love has anything to do with how perfect Princess Bride is or isn't.

I never played FarCry 3, but from what I can tell, it was FarCry 3 with a crazy ass skin, and a very tongue-in-cheek story that doesn't quit successfully pull off the 80's parody 100% of the time.

I had fun with it, and I think it'd totally be worth playing for $5-$15. I wouldn't pay more, unless you absolutely LOVED Far Cry 3.

You implied that it could have been better because it was perfect 'for what it was trying to be'

what was it trying to be

It suffers from LOOK AT THIS FUNNY JOKE WE MADE syndrome instead of just playing it straight, which would have been much more effective humour.

    Gameplay wise it's ooookay.

I didn't care for the look of Blood Dragon one bit. It's so dark all the time.

I never meant to imply it could have been better. Princess Bride is a perfect dog. You can not enjoy the movie because what you were after was a cat. But that doesn't make Princess Bride not a perfect dog.

It was trying to be an amazing romantic comedy fantasy adventure film while simultaneously undermining romantic comedy fantasy adventure films and succeeds wonderfully.

princess bride has some problems and mostly succeeds because of the strength of its cast. the writing and editing aren't executed perfectly and the story kind of loses its way in part because of the frame narrative it hews so closely to.

Some things work a little better in the book where it has more time to flesh things out and also it can play up the fact that it is pretending to be a real, historical book more.

But I am still willing to call the film perfect, personally. I never felt like the story loses its way.

    Blood Dragon is pretty okay

But it could be better if the writers understood why what they were trying to emulate was funny and worth emulation in the first place

As a 1980's pop culture aficionado, I really loved Blood Dragon. I know the jokes may have been hit or miss, but it's definitely a great spinoff that I hope gets a sequel. I still have the soundtrack in my car for what it's worth.

the best part of watching 15 year old movies everyone else has seen is sometimes they're nothing like you expected. I had no idea Fight Club was a comedy. I just didn't know. It was such a blind side

It is always sad to see a series killed by people dragging it along because it keeps making money instead of letting people get to finish their artistic vision the way they wanted.

So I have a question that's gonna show my ignorance

But I've been following this giantbomb hire stuff on twitter

And I see a lot of people who are mad at people for "Not taking responsibility for GB's shitty community"

I honestly can't even figure out what this means

There are assholes who like giant bomb

    A lot of them

There are a lot of assholes who _________

    Fill in whatever you want

I guess I don't understand exactly what that means

Accept there are shitty people who like GB? Yeah, I know

I don't really know how people who happen to enjoy the same product are supposed to do anything about the fact that some of those people are human garbage
